ROTQM03: Return of the Quantum Monkies

Oh, and we probably need a roster, or something closely resembling one, anyway...

fah-rizzle da gizzle:

Rex Tyrannus: There are only 10 numbers in binary notation. 1 and 0.
GreyFox: Mildly amuzed by his own navel.
Pholkhero: Will work for enemas.
Ruff Hi: Sleeping off a thanksgiving glut until December something. (skip).
negyvenketto: Woo me, do me and leave me in pain. (just played)
Lobster Boy: King Arthropod and the Shrimp of the Round Table

Interesting developments. I'll try to play tonight.

Once the AI starts bringing Cannons to the party, we're going to have troubles. If we can survive until the next event and wind up in an earlier age, maybe we can finally send out some stacks of our own, to at least pillage AI improvements. Trouble is, if the AIs have built forges and factories, they probably can spit our early units every turn. Unless we can improve our production capacity, we're probably still screwed.

Shameless promotion....

Over at Deviant Minds, Pholk, Zophos, and I are trying to start up an online Role-Playing Game. No, not some life-sink MMORPG. Old school. D&D, GURPS, etc. None of the details are yet decided, but I'd like to see at least two more players.

All are welcome to join. Just follow the link above to the thread. Otherwise, anyone can watch.

hey all, for now, my Vanilla is broken  I was testing out Ruff's new auto-logger and must've done something very wrong. it should be fixed soon, but this is just a heads-up just in case.

@ Rex ~ why limit yourself to threads you're remotely connected to? Why not just post in EVERY thread on the forums? ;) :)

Pholk...the quick fix is to rename the civ4 folder in My Documents to something else - the game will rebuild a blank one when you start it again. So, unless you've changed things in the actual game directory (under Program Files), you should be up and running in 5 mins.

Couldn't play last night; wife sick. Will try again tonight.

Because that would be spam. No spam! :nospam:

@lobster. No problem. Just let us know if she needs you to skip. Have you told her not to hurl on your civ disc? :vomit:

CART MASTER: Turns! Bring out your turns! Bring out your turns! Ninepence!

CUSTOMER: Here's one.

CART MASTER: Ninepence.

DEAD PERSON: I've not played!

CART MASTER: What?

CUSTOMER: Nothing. Here's your ninepence.

DEAD PERSON: I've not played!

CART MASTER: 'Ere. He says he's not played!

CUSTOMER: Yes, he has.

Has he? I'll pick this up tonight if you can't play, LB.

Sorry, no role-playing write-up this time. Just not enough time.

At the start of my turns, we had enough $$ to upgrade 7-8 units to Rifleman or Grenadiers, so I proceeded to add 1 Rifleman to each city and used the rest of the gold to upgrade extra units in Mr. Teenyville and Monkeyshine.

I also changed our civics to:

We suffer 3 turns of Anarchy.

The group of units that landed near Monkeyshine split up to attempt to pillage our resources around the city. (The upgraded units must have scared them off from attacking.) I think that we only lost one farm and a few roads, but the units were dealt with quickly.

Down south, our defensive wall was momentarily breeched, (we lost 2 Axes plus an Archer, I think), but all offending units have been eliminated. The remaining Axemen in the line, however, won't stand up to gunpowder units and Cavalry so we should try to replace them with Riflemen with Woodsmen upgrades.

On around my 7th turn, the AI threw everything that they had at Mr. Teenyville. Our UberInfantryman probably killed a dozen units on his own during the assault, but managed to survive - he now has 164 experience pts! - and he now has help from a pair of CD III Riflemen and a CD II Grennie for company.

Believe it or not, here's the current view of Mr Teenyville:

The wounded Machinegun and Grennie N of the city are the only units in range! (They were wounded thanks to 'Nikko's Lander'.)

The AI once again settled near the horses (England, this time). The city is currently only defended by an Archer. (I previously killed a Longbowman that was defending there.)

Victoria seems content to keep her Galleons there, and I debating capturing the city in order to destroy a signficant part of her transport fleet. Nevertheless, we might want to wait unit the city grows to size 2. (I'm not sure how much longer it will take to grow, but she founded it ~ 7-8 turns ago.) If we wait, however, she may be able to upgrade the Archer to a Rifleman/Grenadier, or she may reinforce it.

So far, I've been using 'Nikko's Lander' to bomb down AI units rather than for recon, but we probably should start using it to disrupt some AI improvements.

All of our cities are producing Grenadiers (the Axemen they were producing upgraded to Grennies at the end of turn 1). Riflemen would probably be more useful, but I didn't want to waste the shields.

Research is OFF. At 100% Steel will still take 60 turns, so I didn't see the point in wasting the $$. At 0%, we still are only making 11 GPT!

A Great Prophet wasborn in Mr. Teenyville on turn 6. Since only 5 cities have Christianity, and he will give us 5 GPT as a specialist, I decided to merge him with Mr. Teeneyville rather than build the Christian temple for the extra hammer and beaker bonus.

Towards the end of my turns, I drafted a couple of Riflemen - on in Mr. T-ville, and the other in Monkeyshine. The +3 unhappiness should won't wear off for ~ 15 turns.

A partial turnlog is below. Unfortunately, I kept forgetting to close the Autolog, so I lost all of the turns from the AI's desperate assault on Mr Teenyville. :(

The SAVE

Alright! Dare we try to step out of our area here and take an AI city? We've got to try, IMO, just in order to break the stalemate ~ i don't want to try and win a time victory on all war, no matter how fun the write-ups are ~ should we prepare an assault force?

lurker's comment: Draft the hell out of your cities - now or never, drafting is best when you can draft Rifles. Smash your foes ! Go monkeys !

Agree about drafting. Agree about attempting an offensive. I won't be able to play tonight after all. I had forgotten that my wife is dragging me to her school's holiday party. :(

None of of our cities are very large, and none can support a large population because we we can't maintain improved terrain. Therefore, I don't know how many units we can draft without dumping our already lousy production deeper into the crapper or driving our cities into starvation.

I agree that we should try to mount an offensive, but we'll probably be better off if we wait until our "Wayback machine" transports us to an earlier age (assuming that it will, of course!)

wow...been awhile without turns...let's see who's up:

Rex Tyrannus: UP NOW
GreyFox: on deck
Pholkhero:
Ruff Hi: OoP
negyvenketto:
Lobster Boy: just played

Just an update. I've played and will have my glorious report tomorrow morning. Thank you to those who wrote me. My wife is fine (and home, and asleep, which is why I could play:)). She just had to go to the emergency room to get the good medicine. Sucks, but it happens. Again, thanks.

My internet access will be less regular from now, don't be shy to skip me :D if I don't post a 'got it' in 24h. Definetly won't in the weekends.
