EXT - New Chimsepolis - Outside ruins of the Palace - Night
Flickering torchlight from the watchfires plays across the broken remains of the Palace. The wall is a mixture of mortared stone, ironwood, and a few scattered bits of metal. Near the corner is a section of the old ship's hull, including a large (10'x30') blast door, stained and pitted with age.
NIKKO stands silently regarding the broken hull. As the camera zooms closer, we see that he has a threadbare cloth patch - showing a pair of wings with a star circling them - pinned to the shoulder of his leather armor.
A pair of patrolling guards pass behind NIKKO, who nods absently to them and returns to staring at the hull.
A low humming starts, almost too faint to hear. Green light stabs up through cracks in the rubble, and pale lightning begins to flicker around the edges of the blast door.
NIKKO
(eyes widening)Another one! (shouting) Watchmen! Call the techs, NOW!
NIKKO turns and begins to stride away towards the barracks. As the humming increases in volume and pitch, we hear a loud crumpling sound, then a rushing whistle. NIKKO spins back and we see that half of the blast door has folded into...a docking bay. Air is rushing into the gap, carrying dust and debris with it. Through a green, shimmering haze in the doorway we can see landing craft, munitions carts, and uniformed monkeys scurrying for cover.
NIKKO
(disbelieving)A ship. A SHIP!
NIKKO hyperventilates for a moment, then takes a hugely deep breath and races into the green haze.
CUT SCENE
INT - New Palace Conference Room - DAY
MR. CHIMPS sits, clearly stunned, staring at CORNELIUS, who is pacing the length of the room.
MR. CHIMPS
He managed to bring a working lander from the hangar of the Davey Jones!?!
CORNELIUS
Apparently, the Event opened a portal - briefly - to the ship during the battle. One-in-a-billion chance. Artifical gravity hadn't failed, but the air in the hangar was down to under 200 milibars. I'm surprised he managed to get into a lander, much less fly it back through the doors before the Event ended. And that's not all.
MR. CHIMPS
CORNELIUS
He snagged a munitions cart with the refueling probe on the way out. We recovered three anti-ship torpedoes in working order. They can't be fitted to the lander - it doesn't have the proper fire-control systems - but they have a range of over 15,000 miles. Give me a few months to rework the electronics, and I can hit anything on the planet.
MR. CHIMPS
Well...it's not enough to wipe out the humans, but it's a start. How about the lander? Will it fly?
CORNELIUS
Yes, to an extent. We don't have a source of antimatter for fuel, so it's running an emergency generator off the solar panels. Limited range, and maybe the short-range weapons, but that's it.
MR. CHIMPS nods gravely.
CORNELIUS
A few other things shook lose in the old capital, as well. Four guards were sucked through into the hangar, and never emerged. A full electroplating rig was found lodged in the rubble of the palace. And the Event itself seems to have left us near the start of the Industrial Age, so we may be able to field some useful weapons again. Still horribly primitive, but at least we're not stuck with bows and arrows.
MR. CHIMPS
An electroplating rig? Have them see what materials are in the tank - a batch of gold plate would be pretty useful around now.
CORNELIUS nods and rushes from the room.
FADE TO BLACK
------
Ok...so I decided to add some obvious help for the Simian cause. I don't think that the evil humans would actually overrun the monkeys in the next few turns, but the AIs hav had a LOT of time to build low-tech units, and we all know they get severe discounts on upgrades...
...so you guys got a few presents.
Ought to give you some breathing room, but shouldn't be game-breaking - it's mostly a one-time boost. Let me know if I'm wrong.
