OOC: sorry about the short sequence here, but there wasn't much to talk about but defending and attacking units. It seems like the days of massed stacks might be dwindling a bit as the large stack is composed of bits from several AIs units. We actually may be able to move outward after the next jump . . . which i think may be coming up right . . . .

NOW!

Event? You say you want an Event?

Sorry, out of stock. Check back tomorrow. :)

Roster:

negyvenketto: Who, me? Again? >> UP NOW <<
Lobster Boy: The Crustacean Sensation >> ON DECK <<

Err...uh...Pholk? It looks like, from your final screenie that the top defender in Mr. Teeneyville is an archer. Please tell me that's just some weird glitch in the programming.

...please :(

just an odd glitch ~ the infantry is there, have no fear.

@ Zophos ~ crustacean sensation! Lobster, you definitely need to use that for your title!!

the infantry is there, have no fear.
Unfortunately we have to start to fear.
chimps1.JPG

The end of my turnset I felt it's true, we are a little bit hopeless.
It started with loosing the Galleon IB turn 3&4
Next turn almost lost Mr. Teenyville (inf down to .2:strength:, lost 3 archers) I had to move another inf to defend it.
A news which is normally good:
chimps2.JPG

I had to disband, because it was undefendable.
Than a terrible news:
chimps3.JPG

3 Phants & a Xbow and I had only 2 archers
I moved an axe to town and :whipped: another archer
moved 2 inf closer but they can't reach it on next turn.
chimps4.JPG

As you can see the city survived but will fall
The southern front:

Good luck Lobsterboy

Hmm....8 turnsets since the last Event. It has been a while, hasn't it?

GM's got the save.

I'm at work, so the edit may not be up until tonight (up to 7-8 hours from now). Sooner if I can get to it.

I hope we've got some cash to immediately upgrade some units 'cause we're definitely toast otherwise! I fear that doing so, however, may only be delaying the inevitable!

we've got about 1200g or so ~ but we're losing cash at 0%!

EXT - New Chimsepolis - Outside ruins of the Palace - Night

Flickering torchlight from the watchfires plays across the broken remains of the Palace. The wall is a mixture of mortared stone, ironwood, and a few scattered bits of metal. Near the corner is a section of the old ship's hull, including a large (10'x30') blast door, stained and pitted with age.

NIKKO stands silently regarding the broken hull. As the camera zooms closer, we see that he has a threadbare cloth patch - showing a pair of wings with a star circling them - pinned to the shoulder of his leather armor.

A pair of patrolling guards pass behind NIKKO, who nods absently to them and returns to staring at the hull.

A low humming starts, almost too faint to hear. Green light stabs up through cracks in the rubble, and pale lightning begins to flicker around the edges of the blast door.

NIKKO
(eyes widening)Another one! (shouting) Watchmen! Call the techs, NOW!

NIKKO turns and begins to stride away towards the barracks. As the humming increases in volume and pitch, we hear a loud crumpling sound, then a rushing whistle. NIKKO spins back and we see that half of the blast door has folded into...a docking bay. Air is rushing into the gap, carrying dust and debris with it. Through a green, shimmering haze in the doorway we can see landing craft, munitions carts, and uniformed monkeys scurrying for cover.

NIKKO
(disbelieving)A ship. A SHIP!

NIKKO hyperventilates for a moment, then takes a hugely deep breath and races into the green haze.

CUT SCENE

INT - New Palace Conference Room - DAY

MR. CHIMPS sits, clearly stunned, staring at CORNELIUS, who is pacing the length of the room.

MR. CHIMPS
He managed to bring a working lander from the hangar of the Davey Jones!?!

CORNELIUS
Apparently, the Event opened a portal - briefly - to the ship during the battle. One-in-a-billion chance. Artifical gravity hadn't failed, but the air in the hangar was down to under 200 milibars. I'm surprised he managed to get into a lander, much less fly it back through the doors before the Event ended. And that's not all.

MR. CHIMPS
What else?

CORNELIUS
He snagged a munitions cart with the refueling probe on the way out. We recovered three anti-ship torpedoes in working order. They can't be fitted to the lander - it doesn't have the proper fire-control systems - but they have a range of over 15,000 miles. Give me a few months to rework the electronics, and I can hit anything on the planet.

MR. CHIMPS
Well...it's not enough to wipe out the humans, but it's a start. How about the lander? Will it fly?

CORNELIUS
Yes, to an extent. We don't have a source of antimatter for fuel, so it's running an emergency generator off the solar panels. Limited range, and maybe the short-range weapons, but that's it.

MR. CHIMPS nods gravely.

CORNELIUS
A few other things shook lose in the old capital, as well. Four guards were sucked through into the hangar, and never emerged. A full electroplating rig was found lodged in the rubble of the palace. And the Event itself seems to have left us near the start of the Industrial Age, so we may be able to field some useful weapons again. Still horribly primitive, but at least we're not stuck with bows and arrows.

MR. CHIMPS
An electroplating rig? Have them see what materials are in the tank - a batch of gold plate would be pretty useful around now.

CORNELIUS nods and rushes from the room.

FADE TO BLACK

------

Ok...so I decided to add some obvious help for the Simian cause. I don't think that the evil humans would actually overrun the monkeys in the next few turns, but the AIs hav had a LOT of time to build low-tech units, and we all know they get severe discounts on upgrades...

...so you guys got a few presents.

Ought to give you some breathing room, but shouldn't be game-breaking - it's mostly a one-time boost. Let me know if I'm wrong.

The post-event save.

I think we can defend Monkeyshine now. We can upgrade to rifleapes & grens and due to engineering Bubbles and another inf can reach the city before the attack.
 to the Event we have 3684:gold: enough for a few upgrades :D
We should prepare for the next wave of Renaissance attackers.

 3 nukes?

But there are 6 enemies ... how abt double the nukes ... pleeaaassseeee? :p

--
Yeah. 3 nukes. But it's not a panacea - remember, one nuke doesn't destroy a city. You can wipe out a city, once. Or you can wipe out a set of incoming stacks, once. Or you can deal a bunch of collateral damage to some incoming stacks OUTSIDE YOUR BORDERS, two or three times. And you have to know where and when to use 'em, of course. So, like I said, breathing room, but not a game-breaker, given that you're facing Emperor AIs.

Same with the upgrade $$$ - you can get, oh, ten archers upgraded to rifles. It'll keep you alive for now, but the AIs will be upgrading, too, so you still have a production and cash crisis to solve.

Just to add a few numbers to the discussion, so you don't think I've made this into a cakewalk.

Here is the demo screen before the Event.

civ4screenshot0009fu6.jpg

Note that you are seventh of seven in every category. Below the average by a wide margin, if not an order of magnitude.

Here it is after the Event.

civ4screenshot0008xe3.jpg

Still seventh of seven in all categories except soldiers, where you're sixth. Until you burn one of those nukes. Use them wisely.

And...uh...don't expect any more divine intervention. :)

I think this was probably fair. Let's just hope the AI doesn't upgrade 100 riflemen in the next three turns. Ugh. Maybe a unit ought to spy out some enemy territory. If we see the AI upgrade a butload of troops in one swoop, we go nuclear (or a Bush says: nuculer).

We should concentrate on building, if we can. Who knows if we'll be stuck in the stone age for another 80 turns again. :vomit: :thumbdown :gripe: :wallbash:
