ROTQM03: Return of the Quantum Monkies

i'm available ~ also, notice in my last screenie, too, the AI has longbows!!

Ok, I will pick up.

A big whip on pholky for losing us the capitol city ... :aargh: .... must be your change of name from Chimpsepolis to Chimpsopolis that brings bad luck ... ;)

But seriously, it could happen to any one of us, pholky is just unlucky to be UP at the wrong time ... so guys, when the next opportunity arise, whip a galleon or even destroyer to protect our NE sea.

I could play now or do you prefer to wait a little for a possible event?
pholkhero said:
well, zophos has been on the board since i posted so i don't think there'll be an event before your set, Negy.

Creiky! Negy posted while I was writing! I won't pick up the save for a while to give Zophos a chance to intervene.
Since the subject has come up, let's set some ground rules:
  1. When you post a 'got it', please say when you expect to play. If playing right away (immediately after the got it), definitely say so. It helps me plan.
  2. If there is a delay between 'got it' and playing, please at least check the board (and your PMs, see below) right before you start playing. It'd be helpful to post a 'playing now' message to cut down on problems.
  3. I watch the boards pretty closely when I know that an event is going to happen after the next turnset, so that I can post my 'got it' right away. If I can't be on for a long stretch during such a critical time, I plan to PM the next player to tell 'em to hold off. Or if the player posts a teaser ("Played - report tomorrow", or such), I'll post a pre-emptive 'got it' like I did with Rex before Event #2.
  4. If I miss my window, I'll deal with the consequences and the Event will be one turnset late. I don't ever want to undo someone's turns because of this race condition.
That ought to cover us for this game, and like I said, I'll fix it if we have a problem. It'd be polite to wait an hour or so after a turnset is posted before playing (I can't notice a new turnset instantly, after all), but not essential.

And I appreciate everyone's consideration. Of course, everyone wants the hell out of this era, so you're all hoping for an Event, aren't ya? :yup:

For the record, there is no Event before Lobster's (now Fox's) turnset. Play on.

now that you mention it, it was renamed back to Chimsepolis ~ i think that's what did us in.

GreyFox said:
But i will finish my turns likely tonight ... so for benefit of Zophos, expect a report in 12 hrs.
Thanks. No Event after Fox's set (yes, we've gone a whole rotation with no Event, for once). Next player can take it immediately.

Okay, this game took longer then expected ... it's late here (1AM), so I will cut the story short.

Dear Banana,

I am writing this on your skin, even though you are now resting in my belly. The war does not bore well for us, so be grateful that you are safe in there.

The hu-mans attempted to break through our defenses using all the means their devious little minds can think of. Fortunately, Mr Chimps is a great man. He countered all the hu-mans' moves, like a chess grandmaster.Every offensive the hu-man takes, Mr Chimps blocked and parried nicely. Alas, even a grandmaster can't do much with only pawns while the opponent has the full compliment of queen, bishops, rooks, and knights.

First was the hu-man named asoka ... we discovered his attempt at infiltrating our northern shores.

RotQM3-AD0965-asoka.jpg

He later disappeared, only to be seen here:

RotQM3-AD0995-asoka.jpg

which promptly turned into a settlement. The monkeys were all raving and wanted to tear the city down, but Mr CHimps in all his calmness killed only one hu-man protector:

RotQM3-AD1010-asoka.jpg

and decreed that the city is to be taken when it grows to 2. I can still recall his words:"If the humans wanted to gift us a city near the horsey, we shall gladly accept it."

But then, we soon found Spanish infiltrators up there as well:

RotQM3-AD1070-spanish.jpg

The strong monkey quickly ran up to protect the iron, but the spanish moved away, and landed on our cows. We killed one of them, of-course ....

RotQM3-AD1100-attack-spanish.jpg

And the weaker monkies with axes moved to the gold mine to protect it. This will also allow the monkies to attack next turn without the need to cross the river.

RotQM3-AD1100-sit-north.jpg

This is last I heard from the northern front.

The southern front bore sadder news. amidst all the killings of hu-mans .... and they can swarming likes ants ... and crush them we did like ants, but like ants they still keep swarming ...

RotQM3-AD0995-attack.jpg

and amidst all these, the general beast was killed!

RotQM3-AD1010-beast.jpg

How I do not know. But ever heard of elephants afraid of ants??? Or was it rodents? Anyway, not important. the important thing was the general died a honorable but unlucky death. He shouldn't have died ... well, we avenged him, of-course! His honor demanded no less. I even burnt him a bunch of bananas ... well, okay, wanted to, but then I remembered elephants don't eat bananas, so I ate them on his behalf ... (wait, you were saying elephants do eat banana??? hmmm .... whatever).

Anyhow, the mongols sent a terrible force:

RotQM3-AD1085-mongol-galleys.jpg

Fortunately, our galleon took out the galleys with the two cavalries ... poor fellows, drowned without having seen any battles.

The rest of the units landed ...

RotQM3-AD1100-attack-mongol.jpg

But with the biggest threat sinking down to the sea, there was no big danger. Mr Chimps had also said that even though the Keshiks had a speed advantage, our infrantries are woodsman II, so should be able to catch up with it.

Here is the situation down south last I heard ...

RotQM3-AD1100-sit-south.jpg

Banana, do wish us luck.

---

Some notes:

- we are at -ve gold with 0% research ... thus I started some cottages, even on resources. We need some quick money if we want to upgrade our units at the next possible instant.

- speaking of upgrading, after managing to connect Mr Teenyville with roads, I upgraded the warrior to an axe, here is his first action:

RotQM3-AD1100-axe-attack.jpg

- There is a bunch of galleys idling at our west coast ...

RotQM3-AD1070-galleys.jpg

wonder what they are up to ... but so long as they are parked there, they aren't ferrying troops, so I am not complaining there.

You medieval d!ckweed, you killed Ted Beast!

Bummer. Anyway. Nice to see we haven't died yet. Looks like our AI opponents are trading techs at an alarmingly rapid rate. One can only pray for an event in the near future. (Bastard Zophos, why hast thou forsaken us?)

Whoever thought it was such a GREAT idea to enable Tech Trading in an Always War game? It brings the difficulty level by at least one level up, and ironically, the harder the base difficulty, the more levels the tech trading enabled would bring the difficulty up. Imagine 6 monarchs AI trading techs, it's like a PA between 6 monarch AIs as compared say warlords leel, its just 6 warlords AI teamed up.

Re: the general beast, we could always save hi from another time and bring him back ... remember, GB was actually built in another era ... :mischief:

But, I seriously can't see how we are going to win this one. It will be a stalemate .... they can't break through our defenses, and we can't afford to move troops out for the offensive.

When the era change, things might be better, since we have the upperhand of experienced units ... but let's hope that is enough. To win this game, we need an era change to Modern, when we go upgrade/build/whip crazy, then an Era change back to ancient. :D

--

Greyfox that is good point about the tech trading. That's going to be our achilles heal in the other all war game too. Maybe it should have been turned off. No matter how good human is they cannot keep up with 6 AI's teching and trading away. Have you ever noticed Isabella will have nothing to do with human with a different religion but will be on good terms with AI with another religion??

Okay, I'm back from Thanksgiving, my folks are gone and I can finally walk around in my underbritches again. Whew! Anyhow, it looks like I didn't miss much. I have a feeling these boards were pretty slow the last few days, but it's back to work, you sorry lot of pansies![/Chimps]

Since I was skipped, I can go back and play, though Lobster was also skipped, so it's probably his turn if we're going back. What do we want to do? Ruff was officially up, but never gave us a got-it. Probably, he's been picking turkey and in-laws out of his teeth. Should we just go back to Lobster and skip Fox when he comes around?

Negy said:
Anyway I suggest to post a roster and make it cleer to everyone who is up :)

I had figured it wasn't necessary since Fox posted one RIGHT AFTER HE *&$@ING PLAYED, but I had figured wrong. For the sake of regurgitation... :sigh:
