RPNES- Adventures in Ansei

OOC:
I haven't got Warcraft 3. I've got Warlords 4 though. Wonder if the copyright abuse would be blatant enough for a lawsuit if I posted a pic of their ingame Lich here... My image of Ghouls is from Angband.
/OOC.

Over the dead Ghouls, Circon turned to face Kalane and spat in his direction. "I am not a Dark creature." Circon's voice was loud enough to be heard by everyone. Kalane turned to face him and found Circon's hood thrown back, his black eyes piercing."Nor have I ever been." "Possession of Dark power is a frightful temptation, yes. And I fell partly for it, but have retained my soul, or what is left of it after my own doings. But Elves of all people should know that the magic does not make the man!!!"

OOC: yeah, yeah, philosophical discussions. Let's go find Tomas instead.
Yeah, I know, I post waaaayy too much. I have free time.

OOC I didn't got what just happand? 3 ghouls (sp?) attacked and took one of us? or there is somthing more?! Is the fight still going or it ended? I'll write a story when I get this right.

As Govenor of Ansei, Manfred von Carstein found that he had begun to hold true power. After his evening feast to start the night he began to ponder what the next option was on his rise to glory.

His ultimate aim was still yet to be unveiled. However he wished for the ultimate ascendacy to Ansei, providing the province with its own Empire, that and he wished to eliminate all that was good from the province.

However Vampires are by nature very self-serving creatures. One of his minions rose up agains him. The fight was terrible to behold and was sated only by the onset of the sun. Manfred was physically exhausted, and this was the one true weakness of the Vampire. Yes they were burnt by sunlight, yes they were repelled by garlic and yes a stake through the heart could be fatal, (fail to see anyone could survive that) but the one true weakness was the inability for Vampire's to quickly regenerate old wounds.

Wounds that would killmortal men would merely cause discomfort for a Vampire but wounds would continue to prevent a Vampire being at his peak for a long time.

And as Manfred sat on his throne pondering the succession of Ansei, he licked his wounds from the fight with his minion. His minion lay dead on the ground drained of blood, but eventually Manfred would recover, and eventually his rise will be complete.

OOC: I'll play the role of Tomas for now, though lmsw can make him an NPC for all of us to use ;).

*Shadow walked into the clearing, sniffing the ghouls around, and the lich. He then thought to himself, 'Time to see if the legend of the Blood Armor is true.'
As ghouls charged in, Shadow lept of his left foot and sliced two in half as they went for Kalane. Circon struck one down with his black magic. Shadow grinned, because his sword just became the Blood Sword. He swung it around, and the hilt formed to his hand. He grinned even more, as blood pouring from his wound from a ghoul stuck to his body, and formed the Blood Armor. The legend said that killing an undead creature would summon the Blood Armor out of the shadow blood who slayed the creature. Once he had his armor, Shadow ran in the direction of the lich. He then yelled over his shoulder.*

"Let's go people, that lich isn't going to die standing there."

~meanwhile~

Tomas jumped and dodged the lich, all the while a wound in his left leg bleeding. He cast spells even though he knew they wouldn't work. They would slow the lich down, giving him time to dodge. He decided to us an Arcane magic that has been unknown for years. Just as he was about to, he saw a white stream come from behind the lich and hit it.

("Yes! Some Help!") He thought.

He edged his way around the clearing to the side where the stream came from. Using an old spell, he strengthened his sence of hearing, and to his disbelief, heard Kalane, even though he was arguing with some unknown person. Tomas also heard another being, which sounded like their leader, yell:

"Let's go people, that lich isn't going to die standing there!"

("Even better! It seems like a search party is coming to help!")

Just then Shadow burst into the clearing, his Blood Sword waving through the air, almost sounding like it was roaring. To Tomas' surprise, this wasn't a rescue party leader he was used to. He wwas thinking elves would help him. Even though it wasn't an elf, it was better than dying.

(Shadow's point of view)

*As Shadow jumped into the clearing, he swung his Blood Sword through the air. He set off his left foot at the Lich, and sliced its right thigh. He jumped back, and the lich swung it's hand to try and grab him. Shadow grinned and turned semi-shadow, and the hand pass through him without a scratch; but Shadow fell to one knee from the little trick. He looked up, and his eyes had changed from green to red. He looked at Tomas and frowned.*

"Listen bub, get outta ere and find some safety. Kalane is back there, so he'll help ya out. Go!"

*Shadow looks back at the lich as it backhands him away. He gets up and roars, arching his back as the lich cuts him in the back. His muscles seem to bulge as he gets hurt. Shadow sets of his left foot and slices the lich's hand, and then jumps out of the way, waiting for some help.*

OOC: I was thinkin of killing the lich, but then it would be no fun for the rest of ya ;) Oh, BTW, I spelled 'here' 'ere'. It's just the way my character talks ;).

As Shadow jumped in the air Shrin went into action. "Willow I ggonna help him with the sword fight. Try to find how to help fast!" Shrin took out her blue sword and jumped to the fight togehter with Shadow. Both started a sword fight with the Lich when in a huge light the both were thrown from the Lich. "The Undead shall thrive! Some humans and shadows won't stop us. We already killed thousands of you!" the Lich shouted our loud when she used a ball of dark energy and threw it at Shrin.
"Shrin no!" Willow shouted as the others begun rounding the Lich with their own weopnse. Magic could not hurt her bur Shrin was killed and anger begun to be shown in Willow face... "Willow take my sword kill that Lich. Don't let my die for nothing win for the good." Thos were the last words Shrin ever said.

Shadow and Circon already had begun fighting against with the Lich as Ghouls entered the battle. 10 Ghouls and a Lich stood infront the group and each begun fighting with a Ghoul.

"Lich! You will die now" Willow suddenly shouted while getting up from the land near Shrin body.
"Earth and Quake
Dig this land
Build a grave
To my friend" Willow begun a spell. Suddenly Shrin was burried in land. Willows eyes turned black and she stoop infront of two Ghouls.

Already the rest of the team broke 2 others.

The 2 ghouls didn't stayed on the land for too long as they were raised to the air and thrown on the Lich that had to break them that they won't hit her.

"Your next Lich"

OOC (people I won't kill the Lich for now... some others will say about their own battles on the yacky ghouls and the befor of the Lich battle.)

I jumped into the fight with the Ghouls.
I tore out the throat of the first. Blood and bile came running out. I spat it out, and went on to a zombie.
First I took a bite around his legs, and made him fall. The i braced myself and bit off his head. Then there came this strange sensation. Someone was putting a spell on me!
<OOC> Willows earth spell put a a stone skin on me.</OOC>
I looked towards the Lich, ready for battle. I clawed at both its knees. Suddenly I felt this great shock go through me. It was like nothing I had ever felt before. I was paralysed for a few seconds before I could move at all. After that I wobbled myself up on my legs, and looked around to see what had happened.
Suddenly I saw Willow fighting with the Lich, but: the Lich had no legs beyond the knees! Where the knees reached the ground, they were stuck in ROTTEN flesh.
Then understanding struck me like lightning from clear sky!
I had clawed the Lichs knees. My claws destroyed magic. The Lichs knees had then fallen off.
the magic that kept the Lich from rotting had escaped the "legs", and they had rotted!
I looked at my claws in a state of semi-bewilderment, and thought that I was lucky to be alive. I went out of the fight. I was wobbly, had wounds and my paws were numb. I would have to ask the two-legs if one of them could help me afterwards.[And I would have to ask them why they were called two-legs, and not something more sensible. The fight was going well, I decided, and lay down, for I was weary.

OOC The earth spell just burried Shrin... but Willow don't control magic that much (she has a lot of power and little control) so Let's say that part split out in mistake.../OOC

Kalane quickly followed the others through the forest in pursuit of the white light - into a clearing where he saw Willows companion fall.

The others quickly surround the Lich after beating back the Ghouls, and before I can shout a warning to them the undead magician casts a Spell of the Greater Path, a dark magick.

A wave of dark energy blasts out at the others knocking them away, only Circon manages to hold his ground - inspite of the pain the attack obviously caused him.
As for Shadow - kalane did not see what happened to him - he seemed simply to have dissapeared.

"Kalane!" He hears his master call, "Use your spells, you are of the Flame Path! Hurt him!"

Kalane looks over to his master, who gives a weak smile from the tree he was perched against, and gives a thumbs up sign.

Kalane steps forward past Circon to draw the Lich's attention - standing at his full stature he enters his full grandure as a High Elf, the light sweeping around him.

"Lets see how you deal with me Lich!" Kalane barks in an almost guttural fashion in the Eldar tongue at the Lich
"I defeated your Master already Elf" The Lich replies, "You the apprentice will not even be a contest!"

Kalane smirks arrogantly at the Lich, weaving a spell he has only attempted twice before, the Level 4 Path of Flame spell Crowning Flame. A powerful spell in the Flame path and both times before he tried to case them were unmitigated disasters for the Apprentice - a Level one Adept in the Flame Path, level 3 if you count how much he pushed himself and the range of spells he has managed to cast since arriving in Ansei.

"Crowning Flame!" Kalane calls forth the spell, the runes in the air flashing as the spell concentrates his in front of his hands, forms into a small firebird which leaps to the Lich who is quickly fashioning his own counter spell.

The firebird caws as it grows larger speeding towards the Lich, as it reaches the Lich it explodes into a "Crown of Flame" and when the dust clears the Lich is gone.
Kalane sighs, feeling pleased that he could cast such a powerful spell, he sags slightly - he hears Gwyneth call out to him.

"Kalane look out!"

He turns to see the Lich towering over him weilding a large sword, about to strike down at him when the stone clad form of Gladinia leaps upon the liches bad and sinks her teeth into its shoulder.

(OOC: Again sorry for the slight autoing - and I should point out that this is an old and very proficient Lich, a spell casting creature. It was able to defeat Tomas, a master Wizard parallel to Gandalf in Lord of the Rings; its defeat shouldnt be so easy.)

[ooc] dang, lmsw got his in ahead of me. will have to edit mine to fit his. give me a few mins.[/ooc]

The Needle Arrows that this forest's magic produced were having no effect at all on the ghouls. They seemed to not notice the small holes that went right throught their dead bodies.
Gwyneth concentrated with all her strength to make the arrows thicker, but even at a full Inch in diameter, the holes she was piercing in the ghouls were having minimal effect. After filling one ghoul full of holes, and only being able to disorient it and not kill it, Gwyneth decided that she was wasting her time on the Ghouls.
Maybe she'd have better luck with the Lich.

She camouflaged herself as much as possible, to prevent a quick response from the Lich and while her cloak was growing to match the immediate surroundings, she watched the Lich's fight with the others. It seemed that any attempt to KILL the Lich, magical or otherwise, only made the thing stronger. Like it was absorbing the "Death" that should have finished it's existance.
Then, just as Gwyneth was ready to shoot her first arrow at the Lich, Adriana sliced at the Lich's knees and Gwyneth was surprised to see that such a seemingly simple attack was so effective. The Lich's legs below the knees disintegrated and it was standing on its knees (literaly).
Gwyneth decided, that it was becuase the wolf had tried to HURT the Lich instead of killing it, that the attack had worked so well. She didnt know that Adriana could cut thought magic, and so came out with a simplistic explanation of what had happened.

Gwyneth forced her arrows to grow flat, wide and sharp. And fired one at the Lich's elbow, trying to sever the things right hand. The Lich swung its sword just at the wrong moment and the arrow barely nicked it. Shooting another arrow, this time at the other elbow (hoping it didnt move as fast) Gwyneth hit her mark, and the arrow went right thought the elbo. To Gwyneth's amazement the arm that should have been completely severed, stayed right where it was, and continued to be used by the Lich.

Getting mad at being so useless against these monsters, Gwyneth grew another arrow into her bow, this time she decided to add something to the arrow. She concentrated with all her mind on putting as much energy as she could into the tip of the needle arrow and it burst into flame. She fired the arrow at the Lich, hit its shoulder. The monsters clothing, all rags now, cought fire, but still the thing fought on as if it didnt even notice. As the rag on its shoulder burned off, the flame died down, natural fire was unable to burn the unnatural flesh of the Lich.
The though crossed Gwyneth's mind that what they needed was a sorcerer stong in white healing magic to counter the Undeath spell that made these things come to life in the first place.
That though gave her an idea.
Gwyneth grew another arrow into her bow, and again pumped magic energy into it, but this time she was putting the life of the forest into the arrow. Shooting the arrow at a Ghoul (the Lich had moved to behind a tree in its fight with the others). As the arrow passed though the ghoul it released its magic and fungus started growing from within the wound. In about 5 seconds the ghould was on the ground with fungus, grass and vines growing out of its corpse.

Extatic at her creativity Gwyneth started filling the next arrow with the forest's life.....

After 2 more dead ghouls, Gwyneth noticed that the growth next to her had started to wilt. The flowers were droping their petals and the tree next to her was showering her with dead leaves.
She realized that the magic she was drawing into her arrows was coming from the life around her, and decided that she would break her training and move around while gathering the magic, so as not to drain any one area too much.

Edit: Dang, this post disappeared the last time I tried to post it.

<OOC> With a multi-player battle, some autoing and other cahracter use has to be expected, right?

I winced somewhat, but managed to hold firm as a horrible spell swept through me. Black energy expanded from the Lich. I caught some in my wand.
I heard Tomas shouting to Kalane. Kalane formed a rune with his hands and released a small firebird. (yadda yadda skip the posted story already.) The lich was about to bring it's sword down on Kalane. I aimed both sword and wand at it, releasing its own energy and some of mine. My wand flew out of my hand, and hit the zombie of Lampar. He collapsed in death. But the Lich's sword was also knocked from its grasp. It was delayed long enough for Kalane to leap away.
Gwyneth put an arrow through it's hand. I stepped back and readied the dragonbone orb I had carved.
The Lich screeched. I was shaken to the bone, and guessed the others were too.
Then several things happened at once:
Several of Gwyneth's life arrows stuck the Lich. Shadowbane struck it's already damaged legs with his Bloodsword. Willow's sword was drawing power straight out of the Earth as she too hit the Lich. Kalane sent off a fireball, and I judged the moment right.
The dragonbone orb flew out of my hand, heading straight for the evil monster's head! In it's blue-green wake, I charged the lich. My wand lay forgotten behind me.
The raw life from the orb surged into the Lich. It could not handle an infusion of life into an undead form. It screeched again, but this time out of hate and defeat, not with foul sorcery that chilled the spirit. My sword drove into the Lich, and I felt my blade scrape bone. Then it touched me, and I felt myself knocked backwards. Looking around, I realized it was not only me. A blue sphere had encompassed the Lich and this had thrown us all away. Not the touch of the Lich, then.
I realized the Lich was about to die truly, it could not handle this power. But I felt a great loss at having to lose a dragonbone orb- one of the rarer artifacts still able to be crafted in this age.

<OOC>Can we agree on the size and shape of a lich?
Option one: Dwarf-sized, hidden beneath loads of robes.
Option two: human-sized, long dead, fairly skeletal, still with a cape or robe.
Option three: The Lich towers over somebody.
I'm guessing on option three for the time being, makes the fight more heroic. But that doesn't fit with what I've heard of earlier liches, both in W4 and ToME.

After someone writes up the end of the fight, I suggest we go look for the dragon cave and get us some treasure. Plot: someone asks what I threw at it, i say it was a dragon, someone asks about the dragon, we decide to go there.
And we have to stop for the night sometime, some plots happen then too.

OOC didn't saw you wrote... well it's still ok I guss cause it's still running to make Gwyneth use stronger life magic...

Watching Gwyneth using live energy to kill he ghouls decided that maybe a team work with her and a big amount of energy could very much hurt the Lich.
Willow left the battle and ran to Gwyneth yelling "Wait befor the next arrow! Let's use both our forces!" As Willow got to Gwyneth she begun explaing: "I'll put life magic into the arrow a lot of it this way it will have enough life energy to hurt the Lich. But you will have to shoot it from a very close distance and into it's head. Think you could do it?" As Willow finished she begun to grow a white ball of energy on her hands. After a minute Willow begun to get weakend the ball was as big as the Lich head. Gwyneth Created another arrow out of a living wood to not hurt the already hurted plants and Willow put the ball on the arrow making all the energy go inside. "Now go there and shoot the thing in the head! I'll make sure it won't try to move away."

Willow finished standing in the Forest her eyes turned black again. Her body color begun to become gray when she said the words:
"Great forrest all around us!
Living forrest help us now!
Help defeat the death in you
Don't let it move even it's toung!"

As she finished the wines and other plants begun moving towards the Lich. Unlike all other tries in her life were she caughed the target in both legs and hands this time it was diffrent. The Lich magic succeded in somhow killing somw of the wines whenit's other leg leftovers were caughed. The forrest kept on moving itself that for every inch of dying plant and 5 inches will come.
Seemed like the forrest wanted the Lich out of there one way or another.

"Now Gwyneth try now that it can't move!" Willow screamed with all her power throwing to the side a Ghoul that ran towards Gwyneth.

[OOC]We will need to kill him in the end... This can't be the whole story...[/OOC]

<OOC> @ErikMesoy: I say that the Lich is nr.1, but can do magic to make himself look bigger and "tower over us,"
@ lmsw08233: Adriana doesent have a skin of stone, her skin is just very tough now. She is at least not encased in stone.
Reminder: As RoddyVR said, you people know that I can claw to destroy magic, but your chars dont. Even Adriana doesent know</OOC>
I saw Circon throw some orb at the Lich, and I sensed that it was dyeing. Suddenly, as a last-try-before-death the Lich cast a spell at me, to have at least killed one of us and so not have a total failiure.
I was lying in a position so that I could lift my front-paws to protect my face. I was getting more and more human. Strangely, when the spell hit me, I dident feel a thing!
I looked around and saw that the Lich was dead. When the two-legs came over here I would ask them my questions; first if they could heal me, if not, that we could get going to the nearest village, and after that, why they were called two-legs.

<OOC>Anybody posting can automat me so that I ask these questions, but dont make me look idiotic!</OOC>

One of my game descs for Lich:
It is a skeletal form dressed in robes. It radiates vastly evil power. It is normally found on dungeon level 34, and moves at normal speed. A kill of this evil undead creature is worth about 9066.67 points for a 1st level character. It is magical, casting spells intelligently which drain mana, cause brain smashing, cause critical wounds and cursing, terrify, blind, slow, paralyze, blink-self, teleport to or teleport away; 1 time in 4. It can open doors and bash down doors. It is cold blooded. It is hurt by bright light. It resists cold and poison. It will evolve into Crypt thing when it gets enugh experience. It cannot be confused or slept. *snip treasure*. It can touch to lower experience (by 40d6+), touch to drain charges, touch to reduce dexterity with damage 2d8, and touch to reduce dexterity with damage 2d8. (Hengband 1.4.1)

And here I've got the Warlords 4 Lich pics (actually there are loads more.) Warlords 4 is copyright to UbiSoft and findable at www.warlords4.com .

OOC: I like the Warcraft 3 undead Scourge better for undead units...

After Blizzard's major fugging of D2, I don't regard them as much of an autority on monsters. That Lich is made for eye candy, IMHO.

And my first desc is from a game much older, from before Blizzard Entertainment was founded.

Hey all reading, join #nes and lets discuss there.

<ooc>Time to get back on track.</ooc>
As the dragonbone orb crumbled to dust and the blue sphere enveloped the Lich (see post #90) , Circon fell back. "I have nothing more to damage it! My power here is spent!" he shouted wildly. Heads whipped around at his words, and then he vanished, leaving behind nothing more than a soul-chilling tune.
But he was still fighting. The white stream was still flowing from where he had been, and the bonesword would sometimes appear, cutting off the arm of a Zombie, or the leg of a Ghoul.
The blue sphere contracted again, then crackled into the Lich. It's robes shivered and aged in an instant, then fell off it, and blew away. The Lich itself rotted, then dissolved, then turned into powder.
With the leader gone, the remaining undead still put up a fight, but much less of one.

... Aftermath ...

"We should camp nearby for the night," suggested Circon. "Few things will cross the trail left by a Lich."
I will not stay near this place, said Adriana.
The group dissented, weighing the relative benefits of staying here and of moving away.
Tomas opened his mouth to say something. "We-" he began. Everybody turned their heads to listen to what he had to say.
..

Circon shouted"I have nothing more to damage it! My power here is spent!"
When everything was killed the two-legs came over to me and began debating where we should spend the night. Circon said that we should spend the night here, for not much would cross a Lichs trail. That was when I spoke up for the first time. I will not stay here! I thought. This place reeks of evil! Then Tomas began to speak: We-

OOC: Sorry everyone. I've been really busy with other work I have to do. And yes, a little autoing is expected.

*Now that the Lich was dead, the heroes had to decide on a place to stay the night. Shadow wondered what Circon had thrown at the lich. But before the lich died, it slash Shadow across the chest, and the blood armor seeped back inside his body. He sheathed the Blood Sword in a jeweled holder which seemed to appear the same time the sword and armor did.*

"Hey Circon, what was that thing you threw at the lich? And isn't there a cave around ere? You guys could sleep there, I'll just find a shadowy spot, cause Shadow's don't sleep, or eat for that matter."

*Shadow wondered how they were ever going to stop Dagoth Ur if they could barely take down a lich.*
