RR-01 World Conquest

ok, got it.

I've looked at the save and I think I'm going to switch Persepolis from horse to university and rush (will take most of our treasury) and then start a prebuild for Copernicus's. Will also start some universities as we have 5 or 6 cities making 7 sci beakers per turn and much less in most other cities.

I'm also going to start universities in all towns that are getting 7 sci beakers in them (and maybe some of the ones getting 6 beakers).

Also start some cathedrals in larger unhappy cities.

If I can, I think I'll start a prebuild in the FP city after a university for eventual Leo's.

Thoughts/comments/concerns/questions - I won't play until tomorrow.

While I agree with building universities, I do not think we need to rush any of them.

IMHO, Copernicus in Persepolis is a waste of shields. Magellan may be useful because of the distance to the other continent, but otherwise, I am not sure we need to build any other wonder ourselves. Leo is owned by the Aztecs, so I guess rrau meant another wonder.

With 83 horses, I agree we can switch the horses build. I think we need a lot of ships to send troops to the other continent, not for suicidal attempts (locating other small islands is not important right now). Remember that each horse will cost 150g to upgrade, so be careful not to waste any money. I would not rush anything. We could disband some troops instead and that would also lower unit costs (which is reducing research by 50%!).

i would agree not to rush anything, we have a small treasury and cavalry are basically what we are aiming for... we're gonna need a lot of cash. i guess some immos could be disbanded really :S if we're gonna be using cavalry with maybe support from crusaders immos arent gonna be used much.... maybe disband them in uni cities?

Magellan will help us more than Leo's even with horse to cavlary upgrade costs. We are not short of cash....

I wouldn't be disbanding immos. With enough artillery supprt, trebs or cannon, a stack of immortals and an army can take just about any size city you want against anything short of infantry. For a demonstration see the grs series of games: world conquest at monarch and emperor with legions only. The key is concentration and massive force. No distractions, move straight at the target city, ignoring the mosquitoes and keep the suppply lines open. For that last we need Magellans's, workers and rails.

A suggestion: when we are about seven turns or so from learning Steam Power start all the workers on the continent on go-to's to the capitol. Stack them up right next door. Then when Steam comes in start mainlines in four directions from the capitol. Set them up in stacks of natives and slaves so that each tile is railed in one, then leapfrog the stacks. It's amazing how quickly mainlines can be laid down. Once the mainlines are finished bring stacks back to each of the top ten productive cities and start trimming the terrain to maximum productivity, leaving the hills and mountains for last. No point in overailing the outlying areas, though.

The cities in the east with all those floodplains make handy tax and science farms, to the point where we may not need to build universities unless we want culture. Any toewn not capable of producing uncorrupted gold or wasted shields have its terrain maximised for food, all unnecessary improvements sold, that includes libraries, markets, temples and courthouses, granaries rushed if needed for rapid growth to six or twelve. Don't bother building acqueducts unless you can get 24fpt with six citizens.

preflight (1160ad)

Switch Sidon to palace as prebuild for Magellan's
Switch Persepolis to University
Switch Arbela to University

ibt: lost a galley

turn 1 (1170ad)

Contact Arabia, They are up Republic and down education.

turn 2 (1180ad)

worker movements

ibt: aztecs want to have RoP renewed, Ok

turn 3 (1190ad)

not much except worker movements

turn 4 (1200ad)

Antioch built a worker and is down to size one, so it is abandoned

turn 5 (1210ad)

worker actions

ibt: learned Astronomy, start navigation. Due in 14. Apparently Aztecs learned it the same turn (or stole it) as they start copernicus's. Mapstat didn't have it available for trade the previous turn.

turn 6 (1220ad)

not much

turn 7 (1230ad)

Started some cities on wealth so I don't have to turn research rate below 30%

turn 8 (1240ad)

worker actions

turn 9 (1250ad)

worker actions (running out of things to irrigate)

turn 10 (1255ad)

worker actions

Notes:

We're down to Navigation in 7 with some completed universities and scientists

I'm trying to get Copernicus's in Persepolis, but didn't want to waste the money to investigate the Aztecs to see if we would get it.

rrau - just played
hajime - skipped due to 'puter problems

I will play tomorrow, but I have limited time, so I do not know if I will be able to do 10t. I am busy this weekend, so I will post the save after making as many turns as I can.

Plan:
  • Navigation is in 7t, so I will start moving our boats toward our W coast. Why the W coast? Leo is in Tlatelolco and we have more than 100 horses to upgrade. While that city is not seen, since it is the 4th Aztec city, it should be near the capital.
  • If I cannot get gunpowder for navigation, I will start researching it.
  • Try to construct more boats. While we have plenty of ground troops, we only have 3 galleys on the W coast and 2 on the E coast. IMHO, we need at least 20.

1255AD (preturn)
Revise some cities that are not growing and hire scientist when it does not reduces production to get navigation in 6t. Hire a few taxmen also.
I notice that we are building libraries in hopelessly corrupted cities and have no clue why. I do not change it because they are almost finished.
IBT
Babylon and Scandinavia make peace. Seems Babylon is not dead yet.
1265AD (2)
Oasis near Niagara Falls have just been irrigated. I really wonder why because they already have a big food surplus and specialists do not help getting more gold since we are producing wealth.
1270AD (3)
Aztecs have destroyed the Vikings
1280AD (5)
Reorganize specialists to have just enough scientists to get navigation in 1t.
IBT
Research navigation.
Trade it with furs & 525g to Aztecs for gunpowder. It would have taken 8t to research it so I guess we won't get MT in less than 20t to break our treaty.
Set research to chemistry since the Aztecs won't trade it.
Aztecs starts Magellan
1285AD (6)
Switch Sidon to Magellan in 7t.
We have 5 saltpeters and the Aztecs at least 2.
Trade dyes, silk, furs & theo to Maya for wines, 10g and WM.
Trade dyes, silk, furs & educ to Arabia for incense and WM.
Lux to 0%, research to 50%, organize specialists to get chemistry in 5t and +53gpt. Yeah! :D
The maps show me that Babylon is south on the toundra island.
1305AD (10)
Meet Babylon, they only have 3 cities.
Reorganize specialist to have as much tax collector as possible but keeping chemistry in 1t.

I have started preparing embarkment on the SW tip of our continent. Units that need upgrades are near Zohak and the caravels and units that do not need upgrades are in Varna. Other units were going there.

Notes: The Aztecs have taken three Arabian cities
We're paying the Aztecs furs for 6 turns
When do we want to stop research and do we want to save money for upgrades (horses to cavalry and trebuchets to cannons)?
The troops are ready for Bede's invasion

Here is the save.

Got it.

Who do we invade?

(Heads back to the archives to read the thread)

id say someone small that we dont have deals witt, im not sure whos left alive though

How about now? We've learned MT and navigation.

Well, we do have four armies that can't be transported in caravels, but there is one empty army. We do have a massive army now. The military advisor says our army is average compared to the Aztecs, and once we upgrade our horses to cavalry, :D. So we could stop research and just get a bunch of cavalry and conquer.

Edit: Just looked at the save again. We've got about 100 horsemen and about 21 trebuchets, so we'll need a lot of money for upgrades. Capturing Tlatelolco for Leo's would certainly be nice. The trebuchets could be sent before being upgraded, I suppose.

Conquest under way.

Time to knock a peg off or two off the Aztecs starting with the tundra island, so load up some boats and set sail.

Nice set up, you guys. Piles of boats and troops within easy reach.

Spend a little time reorganizing the citizenry, leaving a single scientist at work in the capitol. We are even in military technology to the Aztecs .

Look like Azteca has been putting a whipping on the Arabs.

1355AD
Arabs are reduced to a single city so I empty their treasury for our World Map.

1360AD
Arabs are destroyed by Azteca.

1380
Line up the troops outside an Azteca tundra town and declare war after signing RoP with Babylon. Lose an elite immortal attacking crippled longbow after cannon bombardment. Kill an AC, a longbow and two cavalry, no further losses. Invest the town of Hareid.

Unload caravels in Babylonian territory next to Stavenger, immortals, cavlary, cannon and muskets.

Aztec counter attack at Stavanger fails, but wounds a cople of immortals.

1385
Take Hareid, no casualties.

Trade luxes and Chemistry to Maya for Wines and still have to deal with unruly citizens no riots, though.

At some point capture a small Aztec town on an island NW of the home continent, there is a settler waiting to claim the rest of it and garrison troops handy.

1390
Line up to capture Stavanger. Cavalry army, cavalry regiments, immortals and cannon with reinforcements offshore should the assault fail.

Aztecs build Sistines.

1395
Stavanger falls after bombardment and assault by short cavalry division. Division badly cut up after killing two muskets.

1400
Reinforcing garrison at Stavenger. Destroy three Aztec cavalry.

Turned up the Bunsen burners to get to the IA a little sooner. Railroads will be handy when we get to the other continent. Started to position workers and slaves to drive spikes, and there is not much left for them to do other than cut wood. About four turns before we learn Steam peel at least one worker off each city. Then we can really go to town on the rail jobs and re-trimming the terrain once it is railed.

The march on the Aztecs is going well, minimal casualties on our side. Keep island hopping to the other continent and take 'em one town at at time.

Ugraded a small portion of the horsemen, there are still 120+ left for upgrade. Most of the loose immortals, those not needed for MP duty at home are either on the tundra island or on the way. The armies are still waiting for galleons to carry them ( Another reason to get to Magnetism).

@t3h_m013. When you are done can you attach the save instead of linking it to an uploaded file? Apparently when I downloaded the latest Norton antivirus updates, it did something where I can't download linked saves, even when I disable the program and restart my computer with the Norton diabled

Thanks.

illl be finished this evening so if you explain what ims upposed to do im happy to do it. im not sure how to attach instead of upload :S
