RSG03 (Deity) - Random Attempt at Redemption

Not so much limit it, more like let yourself work suboptimal food tiles with greater production benefits.

Plan
Move workers, get libs and caravans, trade with Ramsess, prep for impact.

60, Pre-flight
Cancel orders on workers.

Kinks in the plan already: it's not Ramsess, it's Shaka, and he wants an extra 3gpt for a 1:1 trade. Daaaaayum. Declined.

Find barbs to the SE: fire at will.
Also discover Wellington, W of England.
Take a 6gpt + embassy deal from England for our new incense: we'll have ivory before :c5happy: matters and Shaka won't trade fairly yet.

  • Kilimanjaro near the Zulu (like they needed more mobility)
  • Petra in Cusco (like we needed more reason to want it)
  • Great wall in Assur (that ... .)

Meet Bogota: the CS to our SE. They already want the barb camp cleared, so I declare protection and make sure nobody is around to steal the quest. 5 turns until maximal payout.

We reach 340$, Ash isn't showing signs of agression and we need a granary for caravans. Rush it in Nil. It'll give us bonus food from wheat, too.

IBT: Shaka declares on Elizabeth. Ramsess builds parthenon in his 3rd or 4th city.

T 69:
Spot a Great Merchant of venice going out.

IBT: Ramsess wants open borders both ways because, you know, tourism. Nope. Sell extra incense for 240$ lump sum to Pacha.

T 70:
Construction -> TBD (CS path, Currency, Drama or Horseback Riding?)
Nil: Caravan -> TBD (Library?)

Nearly all units have yet to move: only the explorers have had their exercise. Caravan destination + Worker tasks pending, though a sheep pasture by Grenoble and a riverside chop on Sinaï are probably in the cards.

Shaka still wants 3gpt for a 1:1 lux trade but Ash will trade Copper for Incense as it stands. We get our first Incense back on T94, which is a while yet, but by then we might hope for a 4th city and further sources to trade for gpt.

It's not about limiting growth. You still want to work a lot of 2 food tiles, it's just that your workers have higher priorities and turning 2 food tiles into 3 doesn't make for as much snowballing as getting hammer tiles up and luxes online.

Nice set.

The value of working hammers early (to get growth infrastructure in place) is definitely large. Getting horses + extra luxes hooked up to trade is better than improving early farms, but actually working gold tiles is questionable, I think. I build more workers than most, however, so don't usually have as many competing choices as we have here.

Speaking of liking workers, I'd like build two more right away. Perhaps Grenoble can work on a Settler after it's Library?

As tempting as it is to use our gold to further our development, I think we should go ahead and upgrade to CBs for safety.

The education of Bugs continues. I'm starting a deity level personal game this evening. I'll try out these lessons.

So, Gurra?

Any more input on worker tasks and tech path?

Also, should we or shouldn't we take the Copper-Incense trade with Ash? I think so, as long as it doesn't lull us into a false sense of neighbourly security.

Lastly, where do we send the Caravan? I think Grenoble has the most workable unimproved tiles between the two (hill and, eventually, horse) for the extra pop.

Yeah, I think I'll drop out of the game. I have a lot of things going on so I haven't really been able to keep up with this. Olodune can take it from here. :)

Sorry to see you go Gurra.

Got it.

I'll load it up shortly and see if there are major decision points that still need to be discussed, if not I'll play this evening.

I noticed a very interesting thing:

We are receiving two trade routes from Assyria! Combined with the fact that Ashurbanipal is willing to DoW Liz for only 11GPT makes me think we might be safe for a while. Note that we are also doubling our beakers from trade routes - this is tremendously helpful and will offset the early economic losses. :)

Given the above, I propose that we spend our money on economic items, instead of upgrades, specifically:

-Buy a Worker in the cap
-Buy the horses by Grenoble (and send the worker to improve them).
-As soon as the borders by Sinai expand we buy the deer tile for Grenoble (in 9t)

Grenoble will be fine for growth once it has its Granary and the deer tile -> We should feed the cap with our first Caravan. By starting a Library we can begin the NC on t79. Lets do that.

After its Library I think Sinai should go Worker -> Settler (post NC found) -> Settler (?)

Grenoble should finish its Library then start on its Granary.

Lets do that Lux swap.

Tech: BW -> CS (via Drama then Currency)

A Religion in this set is possible, but I'm partially hopeful that Ramses will spread his Religion to us (Mosques) before that ...

Comments?

If we strip ourselves of upgrade cash, I'd like to see a spearman in the queue - otherwise it all sounds great.

One of the basic principles in the real world is that you have to spend money to make money. It usually (crosses fingers) works the same in Civ. Let's make the early investment in our economy.

I suggest the following:

aim to have a 3 city NC with each city having its own worker

try to arrange a threesome of Assyria, England and Zulus for maximum carnage

DF is too good to have it negated by a foreign crap religion. Perhaps for maximum effect we can get Mosques from Egypt and then found our own religion to restore the DF

chop chop chop in Sinai and Grenoble to get granaries and libraries finished asap. CB in Nil if it has a Library.

Use the caravan for food

Zulus turning on Ash would be grand, that much is certain.

If our cities convert, Grenoble will most assuredly be first. Little desert to work up there, perfect for a quick mosque. No problem with that.

IH:

Swap our scented smoke products for some Assyrian copper bracelets. Our people are now shiny and smelly. Net happiness is unchanged.

Buy the Grenoble horses and swap the citizen from Ivory to unimproved Horses.

IBT: Shaka enters the Medieval through CS. Impis are enabled.

t71: Buy a 3rd worker (taking out a small loan from Pacha to top off our treasury).

Meet Quebec City and Geneva in the north and get the full 30 gold from both! 8 Faith closer to 200.

Geneva has an encampment targeted that the warrior might be able to clear ... I'll wander that way. Pledge both since Shaka hasn't met them so tributes are less likely.

t72: Clear Bogata camp 1 turn early to prevent an Incan scout clear.

Bronze working researched. There are no sources of Iron nearby.

t74: Budapest seeks a great Prophet and since we're close to getting one I pledge to protect them.

London is falling to the Zulu Empire. Hmm.

Swap Ivory <-> English Citrus.

Buy a desert hill to improve to accelerate builds in the capital. (95g)

t76: Meet Wittenburg. This is definitely a Pangaea, not a Terra map. 200 Faith now.

Sur Sinai grows and finishes its Library; queue up a Worker after considering the Beorn Spearman.

t77: Drama and Poetry finish; start on Mathematics.

A Prophet is born:

We have a Religion to found or a Holy Site to settle. The only reason to take a Holy Site would be to piggy-back on Ramses' religion but he hasn't shown us any missionaries yet.

This seems like a Tithe & Pagodas game to me. These are the current religions:

Spoiler :

Are there arguments to found a different religion?

Missionaries will come right in-between Borobudur and Hagia Sofia ;)

Tithe, pagodas then save for another prophet has my vote.

Where did the caravan go btw?

If CV is still the plan, then culture and happiness buildings will help more than not having them at all. In a Piety game, like my absurd Songhai DCL, Culture from Piety makes the other trees look infantile, but in Tradition, we want as much culture as possible. Found, and take Tithe, Pagodas.
