OOC: i was the bad guy in the original too. I was France in that until my nation was reduced to only Paris and my army consisted of Canada's RL standing armed forces (5 men with rocks). So i was the bad guy way before you.
The king was pleased. The unification of Italy had begun without a hitch. The only problem was the kingdoms of Spain and Austria which stood in his way of uniting all of Italy. The king had these letters written to the nations of Europe:

Austria: your threats against the Confederation of the Rhine are foolish. Not only will we defend their sovereignty, but many of our allies, such as Russia, are poised to divide your nation into occupation areas. Please take back your threats.
Confederation of the Rhine: Brother, we would like to take you under our protection by signing a DPP with you.
Pope: We urge you not to listen to Sardinia's threats. Spanish/British fleets and welltrained Prussian dragoons will be on their way to protect you if the rebel is on his way.

Wellington boarded HMS Victory, still the flagship of the British fleet since Nelson had won his famous victory in it, glad to be out of the classroom.
Teaching was not his profession, he sighed happily as he entered the Admiral's Cabin.
And there sat Admiral of the Fleets Horatio Nelson, hero of Great Britain

Open rebellion began in the country. Spreading from the coast inward, the wave of rebellion began. The leader of the rebellion, a mysterious figure who had adopted the name Caesar in honor of the ancient leader, proclaimed that Portugal would become a constituitional monarchy. The wave of support seemed to stretch to the military. The navy assigned to transport troops to attack the rebel flank, were guarding the rebellion. Armed forces were joining the rebel side at an alarming rate. The rebel side quickly took control of one half of the country. The other half was still loyal to the king, but his support was fading fast as he proclaimed that he would fight to the end to keep his rule...

The Papal States are very happy with their sovreignty, influence, and the protection of her allies. We have more influence now than we ever would as a part of Italy. We spit on your offer and will fight to remain independent to the last drop of our blood.
Things were looking bad for the cause of unification. The papal states were refusing to create a united Italy thanks to the puppet of Britian the pope. With the British and Spainish defending the Papal states, nothing short of a invasion could unite Italy. And then there was this United States in the west showing the power of the people. Perhaps they had a point. Maybe a democratic Italy would be the way to go. The king sighed and prepared his letters to the nations of Europe.
