Re the Oracle - I would put hammers into it until you are 1 turn from finishing and then put something else in the queue (BUT DON'T FORGET THAT IT IS THERE)! Probably best if you put something in the queue that will finish 1 turn after CoL's is finished. That way, it will auto-queue the oracle for finishing just after CoL comes in.

I liked the report style!

So. Umm. Er. "Got it."

Three questions:

1. Isn't anyone besides me freaked out about the idea that the enemy could finish the Oracle before us? That always just scares me, but I promise I won't let it finish until CS is available if that's what people want.

2. What to do with the settler? My vote is to settle on a hill off in the direction of the enemy, personally.

3. Any interest in trying to get pyramids? That -25% war weariness could come in handy sometime.

Other than those things, my main goal is to get copper hooked up and start building some axemen and whatnot.

I we really want the Pyramids (and I like the idea) then maybe we should send the Settler out after some stone? Of course I say that not knowing if there is any stone near the Settler ...

There is stone around (or I could be remembering the wrong game) but you will need to quarry and road it back to where you plan to build them. Your plans sound good.

So I'm 3/4 done with my turnset, but I have these two settlers I don't want to do any :smoke: with. For Russia, I'd like to settle to the west of the large lake there with access to the cows and fish. I figure it would help us to start connecting up things, and this way the whole east side is protected by watery goodness.

There are no real great looking sites for Fun-Time Sally, but I had to wait anyway to build an escort for him. Here is what the PC suggests:

Civ4ScreenShot0006.JPG

And here's what I'm thinking: the site that grabs cows, clam, and spices. A bit close to Toku and possibly difficult to defend, since it's not a hill site. Still, moving in the right direction.

Thoughts?

I like the spot for Peter but the one for Sally is a lot harder. There is rock to the E of the lake there and roading it to the river will get it half way to Gandhi. the other option is a forested Hill that has 2xGold and 1xCow - about 4 or 5 tiles S-SW of where he currently is.

For Sally - we should look for a GPP farm - lots of food! - so that we can crank out GP.

Well, good news for whoever's up next (sort of). I didn't actually place either of our new cities. THe reason is that I had to wait for escorts to build and by the time they got done, I only had enough time to move our guys over to where I wanted them, not to settle the stuff. Here are some highlights from my turn.

Gandhi: built a chariot. Why? Well, it took 5 turns to complete and he had 5 turns until growth, so I couldn't resists. So now we have a tougher 2 movement unit to send over to visit our pals (TM) like Izzy, etc. Started something a settler to go get some tasty copper, I think. Also killed a visiting scout from our pals at some point.

Qin. Waited until 1 turn left on Oracle and queued up a settler in between. I did a settler for 3 reasons: first, it took exactly 10 turns, the number of turns left on code of laws. Second, it prevents the city from growing and doing anything wacky to accidently finish Oracle. Third, there's a sweet city site to the Norheast of Qin that we need to grab. (COpper, cows, and something else I think).

Peter. Built some warriors. Explored some and found Bismark's capitol. I think we should try to take Berlin ASAP. It's a sweet city, and losing one civ will majorly hurt the AI, since each palace provides a big research boost. Plus, it's one of the closest to us. So after we get one or two copper cities, I think a coordinated attack on Bismark would be quite nice. I roaded to the stone outside of Peter's borders, and the border will expand in two turns to include it. However, we don't have masonry! yet, since all beakers go to code of laws. Not sure if we'd have enough time to do pyramids, but we can still go for it (with Gandhi perhaps?)

Well crap. I just noticed that I didn't f***ing save anything. There is not even an autosave! :aargh: :wallbash: :gripe: [pissed]

EDIT: Oh. It's under "hotseat" saves. Right. That makes sense. Well, ok then. Back to the story.

Saladin: I don't remember what I did, although I remember starting a library after building a warrior. He needs a second city, which seems to be a big ol' conundrum. I'm not sure that you'll like where the settler is now, but that's where the settler is. Sorry :(

By the way, I enjoyed these turns. Lots of pressing enter, but also quite different feel. made me worry a lot if I was doing the right thing.

Hamtastic - leaving the city placement to me - thx sooo much!

Taking a capital would be ... um ... capital. I might play tonight so any pre-game comments would be useful.

Report: I played thru until I knew what happened with our CS sling shot - I knew that i wouldn't sleep if I left it unfinished. I micromanaged each city to max commerce and shaved a turn or two from CoL. We were down to 1 turn to go and I got the message that Conf has been founded in a distant land. That's ok, I thought, it must mean that Qin got it. Well, I cycled round to Qin and no religion message for him. Then I check the score to find that Monty got it! Ugggg. Really big Ugggg. I kicked the settler to the back of the queue and crossed my fingers that they hadn't queued up the Oracle like we had.

I selected Civil Service (also had to option of archer and some others too) and everyone revolted to Bureaucracy. Here are the detailed reports by civ ...

Qin: Nothing. The worker is roading North to the marble and to also hook up with Peter.

Gandhi: Not much - a few battles with the chariot. Found suggested second city site (see picture below). Worker has been moved to start roading to Peter.

Saladin: Not much. Worker is building a road to a river that will connect him to ... you guessed it ... Peter.

Peter: Actually lost a warrior to a Spanish Archer. We need kick out some military. Second city founded. Worker has connected the two and is building a road South to hook up with Qin.

River / Road networks and suggested city sites for Gandhi and Qin.

My suggestion is that we hook up the copper as fast as we can, complete the team network using rivers and roads and start passing the rocks south for the Pyramids and the copper North for axes. We are currently learning pottery but we should quickly move onto archer (defense) and iron working (offense).

We need more workers - maybe Gandhi can pump out a few after the settler for the copper is done.

I just assumed she (Victoria) had a sex change operation and was now going under the name of Bismark. :p

I had my report typed out and everything but went to insert Mr Smoke (not doing that again) and closed the wrong window and its all gone  .

From memory here's what happened in 10 points.

1. We researched Pottery, Masonry, Archery and have 2 left on Iron Working.
2. Peter hooked up the stone, tried to trade it to Qin for Pyramids but no trade network set up as yet so Peter is building them himself (18 turns left with some chops will be less). Need to research Sailing to get some trade networks set up.
3. Qin is building Chichen Itza. Once Pyramids are complete, trade Qin the stone to complete this quicker.
4. Qin also founded a new city near the marble, which is being quarried as we speak.
5. Gandhi is also the proud new owner of a new city near the copper and is building Stonehenge as we speak.
6. The barbarians have axes and archers.
7. Nothing at all seen from the AI except for scouts, two of which were unfortunately (for them) disposed of.
8. There was an odd number of turns left so I played 11.
9. We have unhappiness in the capitals, might want to MM for production and avoid growth or get out the whip.
10. Gandhi has a barb city to the NW.
11. Lets make it 11 points for 11 turns, Medina seems to be our city that is most likely to be in the firing line, I'm connecting it up by road at the moment but need to get some troops here. I think there may be a barb city up north of here. I sent an exploring warrior up here but he landed next to an archer the first black square he "busted" and was never heard from again.

Lookin good. Though I'm a little freaked out about all this wonder building. It reminds me of some of my starts when I forget how to play and I just start going wonder crazy. Whatever happened to an early first strike on a capital? I'm assuming that one giant mega-army of all the AIs will show up soon. Of course, I really don't know. Let's go military!

Please read reports and suggestions prior to play and comment if you want to discuss them. Naturally, you are free to play your turn as you see fit, but it would be useful if you provided comments and reasons behind your decisions.

My report contained suggested roads to hook up all civs and city locations that would net two copper sources without requiring border pops.

There is some logic behind these wonders ... stonehenge to pop the city to get copper in its borders ... pyramids because opening the governments will be a great kick to us ... but ham is right. We need military and we need it now. Even with sailing, not all of our civs will be connected - from looking at the save, only Qin and Peter will be connected. The diagrams I outlined contained suggested road networks to hook us up.

Does anyone have any suggestion on the quickest way to hook up copper to all of our civs? What about a settler (or 2) for building an Iron city when we know where the iron is? We need to get on this pronto.

Roster:
Ruff_Hi - also worried about military
Ozbenno - done, but flushed the report
Conroe - up
Jeejeep - on deck
Hamtastic - worried about military

You guys who are worried about the military should have seen the state of my pants on the 3rd or 4th IBT when the barb archers and axemen turned up and we only had warriors. That's why we researched Archery and (very soon) iron working.

Smoked on the placement of Gandhi's second city. Iron obviously is going to be the saviour hopefully. If it turns up in city crosses, a stack will be built.

Chichen Itza is for the +25% defense on all cities.
