Through development of my suggestions thread, it appears to me that my substantial suggestions for Russia civ and smaller suggestions for Rus civ are of highest importance, validity and urgence of all other, both written and yet unpresented. Thus, to compile all elements for ready presentation, and to separate my suggestions for Russia&Rus civs from my other vast suggestions and discussions, particularly map ones, I start this thread, also encouraging response and discussion both on my suggestions and on Russia and Rus civs in general.
General civilization information for Russia and Rus is presented below, while expansive historical and gameplay arguments can be found in my suggestions thread.

Russia:
The Russians
Leaders (current LHs): Ivan III Vasilievich (not his terrible grandson!), Peter I Alexeevich, Catherine II, Alexander I Pavlovich, Joseph Stalin.
Starting date: 1472 or 1480.
Unique units: Cossack (Pistoleer, +25% strength outside own territory, River Combat, ignores terrain movement cost), Strelets (Arquebusier, City Garrison I, +25 defence against cavalry), and maybe (if modern UU is needed) Red Army Infantry (Infantry, quarter less cost, +15% strength (attack+defence) and +15% defence, both inside own territory)
Unique building: Ostrog (Jail, -30% maintenance cost, +25% defence (ex. gunpowder units, no bombardment defence), +4 production in cities on tundra and moorland)
Unique power: The Power of Gathering of Lands: Acquiring new unclaimed land tiles costs half/quarter of its culture cost, cities can expand to fourth culture ring.
Historical Victory goals:
All roads lead to Third Rome: Control continuous territory between port cities on Arctic, Baltic, Black, Caspian and Pacific seas by 1720 AD, and connect them all to your capital with railroads by 1920 AD.
Gendarme of Europe: Make sure all European civilizations are Christian monarchies and that there are no non-European civilizations cities in Europe in 1850 AD.
From peasants to space: Be first to complete First Satellite, Man in Space and International Space Station projects and control 40 ICBMs and 30 satellites
by/in 1990 AD.
Civ naming:
Short name: Russia
Adjective: Russian
Main full names: Grand Principality of Muscovy, Tsardom of Russia, Russian Empire, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Russian Federation.

Rus:
The Rus
Leaders: Yaroslav Volodimerovich, (+there are good LHs for Alexander Yaroslavich Nevsky and Mstislav as a generic Rus prince)
Starting date: 882 or 862.
Unique unit: Druzhina
Unique building: Volok
Unique power: The Power of River Trade: +1 commerce on forest tiles in your trade network, rivers serve as roads
(in historical area/regions)
Historical Victory goals: current ones, maybe increase number of population in first one and number of resources in third one.
Civ naming:
Short name: Rus
Adjective: Rus' or Ruthenian
Main full names: Grand Principality of Kiev (or other capital), Rus' Land(s), Lord Novgorod the Great.

Discussion, comments and suggestions are welcome. If you have any questions regarding suggested civ information above, feel free to ask.

Volok is very cool UB indeed, but it don't help in Rus UHV. But in late game, with strong big cites - it's cool thing (in Industrial and above era. Not much historical, yeah)

I don’t know, less city maintenance may be the most useful thing for Russia, given how many cities Russia needs for its goals.

Has anyone been able to build Saint Sophia Cathedral as the Rus? The Byzantines build it way before I could get Compass. Meanwhile in save files I generated as the Russians, nobody builds it at all.
Even playing with Rus it's hard do it before Justinian. Unless you go war and threaten them

One time I had to capture Constantinople as Rus and built it there :crazyeye:

No. And the even by the end of the game I couldn't run a single merchant specialist so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Yeah, conquering Byzantium as the Rus kind of seems to be the meta in general.

If you’re doing the UHV, the population goal makes it borderline necessary, as there’s no other way to get high orthodox population really quickly.
