Take a look at this book by Russian geostrategist Aleksandr Dugin. It's a somewhat disturbing (but hilarious) look at the mentality of the modern Russian state, given its comprehensiveness and popularity within the Russian military establishment (it is currently being used as a textbook for Russian officers). Included in the book are helpful guides to

1. How Russia should annex and divide up Finland, Ukraine, and the Caucasus.

2. Containing the Chinese threat to Russian domination.

Spoiler :
By conquering Mongolia, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Manchuria! :groucho:

3. Shattering the Western Atlantic alliance by advancing into Eastern Europe and gifting Germany Estonia. Europe must be "Finlandized" appropriately.

4. Why the ethnic Russian people have “universal, pan-human significance," are the only ones who can serve as the core of the new Eurasian empire, and can resist the evils of Western consumerism. He refers to Moscow as the Third Rome. Seriously.

5. Reempowering Japanese imperialism to remove American influence in the Pacific and giving China a distraction to fight with over Southeast Asia.

6. Why friendly relations with Iran are needed for a continental Russian-Islamic alliance; this is key to resisting "Atlanticism."

7. Where and how to spread anti-Americanism; scapegoating the US whenever possible.

8. Why the Russian state needs to become one with "the Church" and use Orthodoxy as an ideology for control of the masses and to reverse Russia's demographic decline.

9. Reaching the warm waters of the Indian Ocean after successfully reabsorbing the ephemeral Central Asian states.

10. Manipulating the domestic politics of enemy countries in order to neutralize them. Examples he gives are fostering racial tensions in the US and Turkey (by empowering "Afro-American racists" and Kurdish terrorists), supporting dissident movements to create geopolitical chaos, and giving extra support to the isolationist elements (Ron Paul, for instance).

He literally says "The nation is everything; the individual is nothing." Well, it's good to know that fascism is down and out forever!

So it's basically like Russia Today in book format?

That is utterly insane troll logic on his part.

Though really, I'm more worried about the likes of Jobbik and Hungarian neo-Nazism.

Aleksandr Dugin is considered a nutcase, even in Russia. Unless the EU suddenly cracks open, the European countries are not going to Finlandise to Russia. If Russia is going to be hostile to China, they'd better start moving closer to Europe and become an EU country: The very raison d'etre of the current Russian-Chinese alliance Dugin wants to destroy is Russia's unwillingness to align with the West instead.

He's being taken seriously, though. :dunno:

Dugin is not taken more serious in Russia than Far-Leftist professors of cultural and media studies are in Europe and North America. I'm more worried about the influence of economists and econometricians in Western academic life and that of astrologers in India.

Why does this bear any significance? I am sure you are going to find some book-writing lunatics in every country raising his/her nation above everyone else.

It is like saying an Israeli writer writes about how his country is above everything and gives tip on how to occupy West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights and how to build illegal settlements to supersede the Arabian population. Oh wait.

That's not the impression I got after reading his Wiki page. Although even if the public doesn't take him seriously, aren't you a bit worried about his influence in the military?

Actually, it would be a bit more like a writer explaining why Israel needed to occupy the capitals of Arab countries, destroy the Temple Mount mosque in a false-flag operation and rebuild the Temple of Solomon. (Although I doubt the author of that particular book is actually Israeli, thank God.)

As I mentioned earlier, the West got its own far share of nutcases who speak gobbledgook the way Dugin does, like Stuart Hall, Daniel Goldhagen and worst of all, Niall Ferguson.

Hey now, be fair. Dugin be a crank, but he's never attempted to build an argument around the term "killer apps".

Ah so Rasputin is up to his old tricks again I see...

In reference to who that does? Windows/android/apple?

Russia is significantly understated as an opponent to American/"Atlanticist" geopolitical goals. But most peoples' understanding of foreign policy and international politics are seriously flawed. Realistically though, Russia probably isn't likely to expand any further west than Belarus ever again.

Russia has a lot of nukes. That's about it really, now shut up and dance you fools!

Dugin is not as marginal as he should be, but not as significant as he portrays himself to be.
