Sana03 - Who ate the RaR scientists?

Could be a long wait for the AI to research us to a UN or space win, so domination or conquest is probably the way to go. Very hard for the AI to project power at us until they can cross ocean, there's only a narrow band of sea at the northern tip of our island, a couple of warships will keep them out. Our next war should be to get our own iron source, regardless of who the biggest AI threat is. As for govts, we have feudal monarchy available at the moment, absolute monarchy relatively soon, and then the early IA govts. Only reason to change is if WW gets crippling, doesn't seem to be a problem so far.

I use CivAssist II... I forgot to check 1 or 2 times and ... 1 or 2 riots I am sure it was not on CA and still got a riot... *Sigh*

Before war with India! Mind we have a 15gpt deal! And remember to trade with them... beforehand, effectively giving us a monopoly tech.

Ottoman & Sioux are techleaders, others are all laggers. It looks to be easy to get a dom win...

save

Pre-Turn
we want to get that tech from India
trade feudalism and get mounted archery, get crop rotation from Sioux for 230g and mounted archery
sell both to Ottoman for 1000g
we want the war fast and successful, move the spears south and cash rush some kagesuke
rush some other builds as well

1. 560AD
our Islands are totally undefended, something I would like to change
move units to front for coming war 4 kagesuke in India
before deciding for war, check how many units India has in the capital
turns out to be 8 spears, we need more units before beating them

2. 570AD
now 2 Civ's have alchemy, but it's still a little expensive and no 2fer available
building more units before striking India

3. 580AD
we get a few border expansions

IT Spain is destroyed by Ottoman

4. 590AD
get heraldry from Sioux for 700g
use it to get alchemy from Ottoman
well, we got salt :)

declare on India and move in
defeat 1 unit in Bagalore and it's ours, move units towards Delhi and sink 2 ships

IT lose 2 units on counter and India send 2 spears out of Delhi :smoke:
we get a lot more border expansions

5. 1125BC
bombardment of Delhi reveals 6 spears
after defeating 5 units inside Delhi we get a MGL
take Delhi and 3 wonders, no more units to attack Karachi, their last town

IT lose 2 units against 2 Indian spears

6. 610AD
our units are pretty beat, but attck Karachi with 3 units, losing 1
sana03610.jpg

our next target should be Mali, they have iron

7. 620AD
Irrigation project on main Island is progressing

8. 630AD
nth much

IT trade a tech and 2 luxes for 2 luxes (spices and wool)
Tikei finishes Voyage of Discovery, so we can now sial safely to Mali

9. 640AD
upgrade a few workers
get castle building from Ottomans for 700g
trade it +260g to Sioux for guilds (by the way gpt deals are impossible, we have somehow managed to trash our rep sometime ago)

10. 1050AD
Tonawanda founded on pink spot, granary as wall prebuild

we should hook up our gold so that we can build guild halls and other money generating builds
we have a few riggers filled with units, we could also take the phants along to take out Mali next.
currently we are making 400+gpt and can still keep up with techs buying them, but Ottoman and Sioux are the run aways from the rest
hopefully we can net Shangri La, ready in 2
there is still the unused MGL

Bye gandhi. How close are we to getting our next FP clone? If it's close, MGL should go on that, in one of the western islands. If not, then who knows.

How did we trash our rep??  There's no barb galleys, India hasn't got in the way of a trade route, all our resources have stayed connected. So our rep should still be good.

I was very surprised to see a trashed rep, did we make a mistake when we had those Civs declaring on us cutting trade routes?

one question. I thought Voyage of Dis gives us the possibility to trade via ocean but our islands still do not get the luxes? why is that?

We haven't build voyage of discovery have we? I can't find it in the logs. And from memory, the civpedia says extra movement points, and trading over sea tiles. Although if you can build voyage, you have seafaring and can already trade over sea tiles, so maybe it's meant to say ocean? In which case, let's build it ASAP. Are there any other wonders we can switch shangri la to? It's only 2 happy faces on our home island, which shouldn't be having many happy problems. It won't give happy help on the islands without luxes.

Voyage of disc. expires very quickly - are you sure we want to build it?
Disreagard, we allready buildt it.
To post anything that makes some sense:
"Got it"

T0

Almost changed Shangri-La to Leonardo, but remembered the variant. Change it to palace to win time.

T1

I buy siege warfare and change Shangri-La to KT. Not the most useful wonder either, but at least we don´t have to face templars now.
Our leader makes an army, wich I fill with shaolin.
A Mali gally appears in the north.

T2

I start upgrading catapults and workers wherever possible.

T3

I upgrade our warships to galeasses.

T4

Upgrading stuff.

Interturn

The malinese land two units at our land, the vikings one.

T5

I force Mali to declare. For some reason I can only ask Ragnar to leave, but not force him to declare, so I declare. I was going to attack him anyway, his pathetic land lies on our invasion route.
Elephants kill the viking sword and the mali tribal guard. Fortunately I was sending spears to these cities, one just arrives in time
Our navy makes short work of the foreign ships.

Interturn

The remaining malinese warrior impales himself on the spearmens arm.

T6

A viking canoe  appears in the north. It sinks.

T7

Another canoe, wth are they smoking?

T8

What the hell were I smoking? I buildt like 5 trading ships and filled them up with stuff and now find out that they cannot cross the oceans. I curse, disembark the troops, dismiss the trading ships (keep one to ferry workers around later) and rush longboats. Why didn`t I buildt longboats from the start? Well, they are not with the other boats in the menue, so I thought we were missing some prerequsite.
I suck. Oh well.

T9

Loading old stuff in new boats.
Buy engeneering and scientific method for 1600 gold from the ottomas
Buy scolarism for engeneering and 200 gold from Sioux.
Sell scolarism for chivalry and 450 gold back to Ottomans.
Those trades were not as beatiful as snabas`, but the AIs know each other now.

T10

Nearly loaded all our troops. The defensive units are in the last ship, unfortunately.
Invasion.jpg

The action with the trading ships sucked, but now our troops are ready to go.
Also, all our cities on the main island have a spear as garrison.

Should have that up later tonight

Had a bug with my RaR patching yesterday night, so I played the other one instead. Fixing it now, playing right after

EDIT: I can't seem to find a way of fixing this: (see attached)
I tried creating a subfolder in the HeavyGalleass folder, named Galleon, with a copied wav from the firaxis sounds, but nothing (new) happened. Any clue? If not, just skip me until I solve it

No idea. Did you ceck the full address of the missing file and put the galleon fidget.wav in there? It doesn't sound like the problems that were mentioned in the 1.04 thread, maybe post the error in the RaR thread?

I'll play later today if you haven't posted that you've fixed it.

Just go ahead, I don't want to delay it further. Nevermind the turn loss.

I've tried playing some quick RaR games (OCC) and get to that point ASAP, and all 3 games I've done so far went without a bug. One was archi, so I guess there had been a few of those somewhere at one point and it didn't bug, or none was built - though I can't really tell for sure. I'll post in the official thread today.

No problems at all loading the game for me.

Pre-turn: Haraiki is building a theater?? Theaters provide only culture, which we don't particularly need. Swap that, and a couple of other builds.

770: Buy astronomy from sioux for 1420 gold
Sell astronomy to ottomans for usury & 120 gold
Sell usury back to sioux for 800 gold
2-fers are getting tougher with 2 runaway tech leaders.
We could be doing 1 & 2 turn research at the moment if it wasn't for the variant too. :)

780: Sell 3 old techs to Japan for silks & cotton, and switch haraiki to silk road
Sink a viking longboat, land the invasion force

790: Capture Birka & Trondheim

810: GA ends

820: no 2-fer this time, sioux and ottomans have both gone for navigation, I buy it for 830 gold
Get a leader killing the final unit in Bergen, and the Vikings are extinct.

sana03vikingdeath.jpg

I used the leader on royal tournament in Bergen, attack 6 units will be helpful.

830: Mass upgrade, 11 outriggers and 7 longboats become Junks
Mali offers peace, I laugh at them

840: Renew spice & wool deal with japan

850: Hariaki builds Silk Road, and the malinese invasion force lands. We'll have 2 iron sources soon.

Seeing namliaM is not online, and seeing he hasn't posted a got it yet, I'll take the liberty of taking my 10 turns here, now. Bug is fixed. The vacation skip is still to be carried out, naturally.

Pre-Turns: You guys will have to explain me how naval movement works in RaR, it's like some ships move 2 tiles per turn on coast, some don't, some move across sea without techs, some don't, some across ocean and I'm alllll mixed up.

Now that the ranting is over with, that's some mighty nice deployment we've got there Mr sana :goodjob:

No point in buying Banking right now. China and Mongols are still at war  that'll teach them.

T 1.
It took every single shot of our trebs but the way is clear into Nguigmi and we get there without sweat.

IT: Mongols demand Siege warfare, I tell them to jump a trebuchet and they declare. Junk fleet sent north to intercept eventual droppers.

T 2.
Twofer knocks at the door, with map making on the menu.
MM+WM from Ottos for WM+1706g
WM+Banking from China for MM+WM+756g

That turned out to be a lot of gold :( but now we know the full known world, all other civs agreed on TM for WM+all gold, giving us a little under 100

T 3.
Reach Mali capital

IT: Mali settler pair lands on the island just NE, between ours and the vikings'

T 4.
Mali capital takes its toll of one elephant, despite its crazy HP bar that rises to the sky. I can't wait for M1-A1 elite HP bars :D
IT:

T 5.
Architecture is bought for Banking :D WM+190g
Navigation buys Gunpowder off Japan
Sioux would buy Architecture off someone with just hard cash if I don't trade it so I fetch 1040g
Ends up being 600g for MM, Banking, Architecture, Gunpowder and the whole map

T 6.
Sink their settler junk.
Rush Monument in Gao (salt, gold and iron off borders)

IT: The mongols destroyed the chinese

T 8.
IT: Sioux complete Coper's

T 9.
Shhkriek boom pataow shling shling. Lose a 4/4 shaolin to a 1/4 pike
Sink a mongol kublai transport

T 10.
Mongols would sign peace, but give or take nothing.

Gao is still on a temple, but you might want to build a colony instead of waiting for 100 points of culture for a second iron.
We can build international port, though I'm still not sure it's a good buy. It's so expensive !

Can you spell 'overkill'

B-E-F the RaR shipmovement is due to some ships being wheeled. They cannot enter ocean ever. Some ships have ATAR, they move regarless of anything. Maybe that helps a little.
The IP is best rushed with a GL.

what romeo said. The civpedia is pretty good at saying what the story is. Basically the really early ships lose 2 movement points on sea, and can't enter ocean (cos they're wheeled), the middle ones like junks lose 1 point for coast and sea, 2 points for ocean, later ones have all terrain as roads flagged, so they move 2 tiles for each point. (and seafaring/lighthouse bonuses are 2 tiles instead of 1.)

It's an excellent buy. Next MGL we get, please use it on IP. No idea where, anywhere that's working a lot of sea tiles. Hatutu looks like a decent spot from the pics in the thread, there'll be a few other good ones too.
