Sana03 - Who ate the RaR scientists?

I got it.
I will see what I can do about the Indians, though without iron and no horses on our main islands a proper invasion will be difficult.
I am playing with the idea of bombarding the cities with large galleons and then taking them amphibiously - with warriors :p .
Depends on knowledge of lateen sain, of course.

I allmost knew that was a mistake the moment I settled it (or maybe a turn later)

I did not however want to found it 1S either to close to Tonga.... And i did not know what else to do, it seems like THE spot if not for the bonus....

Yeah, I stuffed up by putting Tonga in the wrong spot. Agree, it would be the best spot if it didn't lose the extra food. We could always cash-rush a hardy pioneer in Akiaki, abandon it into the settler and move 1 tile NE. That'll give us a food bonus on grassland to use.

Our Empire looks good.
Before I start, I sacrifice 10 virgins to the volcano gods, just to be on the safe side.

90 - 150 AD

Another indian ship sinks, Hoa gets founded and I improve our cities, generously cash-rushing.

170 AD

Tahuata founded.
I am getting impatient. Seems none of the AIs is getting lateen sail anytime soon, so this war has to be led conventionally. We could build horsies, but horsies vs spears isn`t very nice. So we need at least swords.
I looked for iron, and noticed that the sioux have some, but they also have elephants. Gladly I trade elephants for gems - only to notice that we don`t know elephant riding. Uh, yeah, a :smoke: .
Grumbling, I buy iron for furs and horses.
The indians are so kind to put a few workers on the shore - an amphibious attack from our warrior gives us two slaves.

190 AD

Mataiva founded
Our warrior, who surprisingly wasn´t attacked heads back to the savety of the ships.
I start building swordmen in many cities.

210 AD

The indians placed new workers on the shore...
Nice_workers.jpg

Two more slaves.

230 AD

Warrior back to ship, first swords are loaded.
Have fun with the war.

Got it, but playing tomorrow probably.

Pre-Turns: a bunch of MM, mainly to reduce waste on the 20spt Haraiki (swords are 30) and to rotate the buildings around: Outriggers in far-off places, spears/swords/cats closer by.

IT: See they have elephants (nasty :hmm: ) so I'll wait for a full landing force to go.

T 1.
IT: India gets Zeus

T 2.
IT: Sioux get the Pyramids

T 3.

T 4.
Land the strike force, more coming through.
Tikei working on FP, chosen for its food/commerce ability.

IT: Landing party attacked by an elephant and the spearman survives with 1 HP.

T 5.
Capital is on Palace Gardens.

Tea + Classical Ed from Sioux for 527g
Republic + 98g from Vikings for Classical Ed
Gems to China for 90g

Every able arm is to attack next turn

IT: India attacks with another elephant and redlines another pike. India finishes Chitzen Itza on its continent

T 6.
Lose 2 reg swords capturing Madras

T 7.
Ottomans give us 20g for peace.

T 8.
Bombard went bad, not attacking this turn. FP started at Manihi.

T 9.
5/5 bombard, Lahore takes a toll of one reg sword.

Get barding from Sioux for 225g
Trade Currency off China for Barding + 32g
Trade Mil Training off Mongols for Barding + 13g

Researching Dark Ages, 40%: 4 turns +23gpt.

T 10.
Actually, turn 11, the previous save was 230 AD and I must have miscounted the first uneventful turns. Strike force moved in strike position. The unit feed is still better than the field losses, which is good. More artillery coming as of right now, but later builds might want to be more focused on barracks/swordsmen/badder horsemen (we can trade for horses and have barding).

Redlined an elephant, so far they send one every other turn or every 3rd turn, so the next one *should* come only in 2 IT.

Polystrike.jpg

edit: I cut the picture too low but there is a vet pike covering our stack. Other 2 are a landing party that just came around, so it's uncovered.

No SoZ. ToZ. We had that wonder in DyP long before C3C and the unit spawning came out. ToZ is just like unmodded Oracle.

:D Discovered that as soon as I loaded the game. Silly me.

350AD: Trades are available. End the mongol embargo. 3 techs to the vikings get tropical fruit, 16gpt & 40 gold
4 techs to Mali get horses & 5 gold
Barding to Ottomans gets elephant training, 3 gpt, 170 gold.
We were importing elephants, now we can use them for units. Switch a lot of builds around, we can build barracks as of a few techs ago, so there's no reason to build non-veteran units.

360: Heavy WW kicks in. Kill 3 spears and a 'phant and take Bombay, we lose 5 or so swords in the process.
Make peace with India, they hand over Calcutta & 20 gold

370: Research Dark Ages, and get presented with a tech picture straight out of the "how to play middleman" textbook.
sana03middleman.jpg

Gems to Mongols for Lateen Sail.
Lateen to India for Athletics
Athletics & Lateen to Ottomans for Invention
Invention & 20 gold to India for Theology
Theology & 240 gold to Ottomans for Milling
Milling to India for 256 gold & 15gpt, bankrupting them.

Net result: We pay 4 gold & gems to get 5 techs & 15 gpt. :goodjob:

Establish an embassy with the Mongols, we now have the with everybody, they'll complete sun tzu's in 2 turns.

380: Moving Akiaki 1 tile S will give us rice on grass, and 2 extra shield rich mountains that no other city reaches, so I decide to abandon it into a hardy pioneer.

390: Mongols build Sun Tzu's.
Sell Athletics to mongols for 260 gold
Athletics, Theology & Milling to Sioux for 1200 gold

400: Akiaki refounded, Hereheretua, Tokelau & Hikueru founded.

420: Manihi builds FP
Haraiki starts Angkor Wat, the cities on the W island can really use the culture and the happy face, as corruption is making pushing up the lux rate ineffective, and being over ocean means lux resources don't help either.

Dunno that there is a specific plan at the moment. Get Angkor Wat built will be a help, and get the last few cities founded on our islands too. No killing Indians yet, we're at peace for another 12 or so turns I think. But we can set up, land the new invasion force, and be all set to eliminate them after those 12. Apart from that, just keep getting infra built, and use partial cash rushing if it will help, we're making a fortune. Don't build worker housings, they'll expire shortly, but forge, both mills & town clock should be in all our core cities. And check for the chance to play middleman on the trades. So far, the 3 or 4 leading AIs have done different research finishing at similar times, so we've been able to buy one, sell it on for another one, and sell that second tech back to the first AI for the cash we originally paid. Basically it's giving us techs for free.

great turns, guys. Let's prepare for another final Indian war. We better get rid of them and het their wonders as well. Do we still have elephants to build, besides great fighters they can road as well for us.

We have horses, but no iron or 'phants. They might be available to buy though. (I hope they are, otherwise it was a bad mistake by me to let the trades end. 30+gpt for iron was a bit steep when I wasn't going to be using it for at least 5-10 turns) We still have access to basic horse units, and the 4/1/3 resource free unit. Our next war after wiping india should be to acquire iron. Haraiki is at 40spt, so 80 shield units to build would be nice. Or it can be MMed for growth and 30ish spt.

Oh yeah, and one more point for those unfamiliar with RAR. Don't build Aqueducts in coastal cities. Port+Major Port is cheaper, and provides culture and a trade bonus.

I noticed that about the ports but it's most likely I didn't apply it.

Sounds good. Nice trading too. No point hoarding that much cash, may as well rush things if it will help, courthouses especially. With all the riots, are you checking all the cities manually each turn, or using a program like mapstat or civassist? They'll make it much harder to miss riots. (But still very possible, trust me.)

Only a couple of turns until we can finish off india, yeah?

got it, taking out India, right? well, are we aiming for another government by the way? What are the longer term plans? Conquest? I think we should decide how we want to win this so that we can play with that in mind. If we go for conquest, I suggest to start taking out the enemies one by one starting with the bigger threats.

I will play this tomorrow since today is my better halfs birthday.
