"This is what Imperialism does. It supports the fundamentalist rule in Saudi Arabia, builds and arms the Taliban to overthrow a government friendly to the Soviet Union, arms and helps Saddam Hussein against the Iranian people for 8 years, supports the Turkish military massacre of the Kurdish people, assassinates democratically elected leaders in Latin America, and on and on. That is why US Imperialism has been and is the main impediment of peace and justice for people all over the world."
Why the hell is Imperalism a bad thing? Hell, if it weren't for the British, Spanish, Dutch and French Imperalistic tendencies the entire population of the American continent would have been downright 8 centuries at least behing the rest of the world provided the "local" communities would have been eventually discovered, even if accidentally, not to mention the fact they'd be going around using obsidian knives to
cut people open and eat their still beating hearts. If it wasn't because of the British colonialist ideology, at least 33% of the world wouldn't have anything near postal services, railways, monetary and judicial institutions and if it wasn't beacuse of Napoleon's drive east - there's no guarantee we would have canned foods, or most of Europe's relay stations and current intra-continental highways. Hell, if it wasn't for the expansionist mentality of man we'd still be sitting around in caves, like idiots, going "yeah... this is kinda nice" in guttural sounds because we'd be too damn stupid to evolve into a functional society. Are you honestly that biased, thick-headed and stubborn to understand non-militant empires are actually a
goodthing?
Not to mention, it is the arms and political support provided by the US that helps Israel to maintain it's oppressive stranglehold on Palestine. I am not saying that Iran is the haven of human rights, but it is far better than Saudi Arabia, which is US supported. Without US, middle east would be a far better place to live in.
If it wasn't the Americans, we'd still be buying weapons from the British and the French, and if it wasn't from them, the Russians aren't picky. Neither are the Chinese, and we have a pretty damn effective arms industries ourselves. American foreign aid comes to an overall 25% of our defense budget - which means we're still accountable for 75% of our own military and security needs, and when placed in general terms - is still marginally less than what Egypt or Jordan get from the Americans. We accept aid, that's true, but we hold our own damn fort and kick ass on our damn right. No American GI came to relieve me at sentry duty, and I sure as hell don't recall a blue-eyed Alabama boy being my CO.
Sh3kel, I don't care about your fables. As far as I am concerned, each and everyone of you is a criminal. Including you. You have no right to occupy others lands.
Retract your statement and appologize, or I shall refer this issue to the moderators. I've been civil with you so far, and am giving you the chance to appologize for going over the line. Failure to comply will force my hand to retaliate by lawful means.
Kind of like what's going on in Israel between us and the Palestinians, really. One side is being petty and discussing moot points for attention with the added addition of not acknowledging the other side's legality, and the other side is desperately trying to maintain a civil negotiation without having to resort to actual countermeasures.
