Suggestion - please stick to your current one. First Jason is NKing and now NK is Jasoning. What is the world coming to? ;)

Cuiv was going to make the NES. :mischief:

Yeah please :) You are free to take my Middle Earth setup. In fact anyone is free to take that setup!

I think I'd be interested in joining in ... as i understand and correct me if I am wrong ...

The NES concept is this ...
>Those involved control or guide a faction/country/tribe/race and report to moderator who acts as a dungeon master ...
>DM then correlates and reports on the big picture
>Players report to DM
etc

>During this time players can communicate to each other (but must keep DM informed)

>Finally creative writing and image posting is encouraged

Am I correct?

So my vote would be Babylon 5 for SciFi and War Hammer for Fantasy ...
If its a book theme ... what about Raymond E. Feist's world?
If its a computer game ... what about MOO3?

Regards :goodjob:

Does anyone have a suggestion for a fantasy NES for me to moderate?

So there, NK. You were trying to pull a Jason.

Hmm... We really need to compile a dictionary of NES terms.

@fe3333au: right on the spot! I am myself a B5 fan, but the trouble with sci-fi + Fantasy NESes is that not enough people know the lore and thus cannot play properly. NESes work best in "general" history environment. I tried to start a Dune NES which didn't go well and a Tolkien NES which got boring after a while.

In any case, welcome to the NESing forum and I hope you stay here long. I'd recommend try a couple of "normal" NESes first and then move to sci-fi. If we ger a number of people we can really pull this "sci-fi NES" thing off. :D

That was before I started my now apparently defunct NES which I'm still waiting for people to notice, even though it's been bumped multiple times and I came out with their oh so precious stats.

Thank you for your swift reply ...

I have another query ...
I would assume the DM (or whatever the NES equivalent is) has the final say ... so it is important for him/her to have the greater knowledge ... in D&D (many many moons ago) the better DM played and experimented with the ideas and concepts that the players came up with ... broadening the game and making the experience more enjoyable ...

So if the DM would have a basic scenario/world he/she would only have to set the basics and then the players could assist in the evolution ... DM would only have to rein in the more outrageous ideas

but back on topic ... can you suggest any threads which are entertaining and creative to lurkers ...

Regards

Well bascially DM (called a mod in NESing forum) is unoficially God and King of his game. He decides if the players are too bold or not and if their plans succeed. There's a counterbalance however. If players don't like that their best plans do not work they leave the game. And the game dies without players. So when in fact "mod is god" the mod better not play god or he will loose his players. Thats how it mainly works.

Here are a few NES examples:
I start with my personal favourite - a NES where the world got nuked, but not badly so new powes emerged:

Real Sci-fi NES, now dead:

My Cold War NES that Stormy modded so well: (now dead)

Best blanc map NES ever made (IMO) - now dead:

You can see any of the still active NESes on the forum so I did not put them in. Enjoy!

Excellent ... I'm off to sleep first then read the links you suggest ... btw Dr Who as a NES ... I'd like to play the cybermen or Daleks

Although I`m probably never going to be a mod I have made stats for 1 faction(I dont wanna make more unless people are interested)for the Alpha Centauri NES idea. Please share thoughts and ideas.

Faction:University
Leader:Prokhor Zakharov
Energy Economy:Stable(0/9/0/0)
Profile: Technologist
Military:10,000 infantry(hand weapons\no armor)
Navy:None yet
Air Forces:none yet
Strategic:None yet
Mineral Industry: 50
Current Projects:
Completed Projects:
Trade:
Labs: 70
RP(Research points)available:0
NOTE:Academic networks vulnerable to infiltration
Brilliant research(+20 labs)

Tech tree will probably be the biggest problem since it`s so vast, there`s like 80 techs. Some will probably have to be removed because I cant have people running around with singularity lasers :)

Considering my great failure of StarNES [I do intend to try and redo that someday], I'm trying to work on a scifi NES that's less daunting. Since I've assessed that to be the main problem I had with updates that was within my control [ahem...girl saying, "screw you"; virus nearly annihilating my computer, though that was for the one I joined after StarNES's failure], I'm making the next NES relatively simpler. Among other things, the nations will be preplaced and units premade.

The focus will still be on colonization, but of a different type...sea colonization, focusing primarily on undersea colonies. Unfortunately, it's proving to be a daunting task to write some of the structure [I'm once again overhauling things I tried to do in StarNES] and to work up a not-gibberish backstory. The worst part is probably the tech trees, though. I've seperated them into an Undersea Structure Tree, Undersea Warfare Tree, Above Sea Warfare and Seasteading Tree, Air and Land Warfare Tree, and Land Development Tree. I...think that might be a bit "overkill" on my attempt to keep everyone from developing everything, though...

Yes, it'll be on a single planet but I'm trying to avoid doing an "Earth's future" scenario since I'm absolutely horrible at trying to represent the world in the future outside of spacefaring scenarios. The world will be of my own design and actually be mostly water, putting a very large emphasis on the sea colonization -- thus the NES's current subtitle, "Empires of the Sea". This gives me the creative freedom to make an expansive backstory and maybe work on a way to make a sequel to it that delves into that backstory. >>

All my NESes have [or will have] an underlying backstory that plays a part in the overall progress of them. My first had the "Fallcrazies" and the mysterious force behind them [dang it, looking back that story was rather lame], StarNES has a huge backstory that was just continuing to grow with the number of races. I am after all a storyteller at heart, and I can't help but try and fit that into NESes. And maybe I can shut up now instead of rambling...

Ramble away ... I am interested in playing, although still a NES virgin ... I too enjoy painting a picture with words ...

Keep me informed please ...

Well, there isn't too much to ramble on thus far. I'm still designing the basic rules and story, though I have the nations and basic map down. Need to work out the two religions of this world, which play a large part in the story, and also need to figure out how to do the Undersea Map...

Will wait to see what you got.

Gelion - did you start reading yet? I mean, you did get that PM (the Sapkowski one)? If you're interested, I have a lot of free time and could try to "translate" that map I found from Russian and also making it more NES-ish, and also to find some more information.

Hmmm to make that work you need all people to have read the book :(....

Well, yes, it still is to be published in USA or even to be translated into English. However, there is a RPG on that series out there, and its site is on English along with other languages, and there's some stuff about the "game" world. They added a few things never written by Sapkowsky, but still it could give them a general idea.

Also, I as said have a lot of free time right now, and I could try to summarize what I could about the world and its history.

Perfect! Do it :)

Well, I've managed to produce a prototype of the undersea development tree...it's pretty big. o.o Any assistance with tech naming and suggestions for new techs [especially for the Defensive Weaponry lines] is appreciated. ^^; In fact, any suggestions are appreciated...
