So trying and failing a wonder is actually punished? No gold compensation when some one beat you to it at all? this makes wonders a lot more risky.

The loss of a number of turns of production is bad enough. If that's combined with having to salvage the half-built ruins, and expending a Builder charge to do it, that's rough!

I noticed something weird in the latest First Look video.

Notice Jakarta's border's just before, and right after, being conquered by Spain:

What happened here? Why did Spain receive 4 extra tiles (circled in red)?

It could be just world builder mess. Extra units back this theory a lot.

If not, these could be some policy cards in effect.

I second this theory. World Builder shenanigans or policies.

Good point. So by conquering the city, Spain received an extra 4 tiles, a Pikeman, a Builder and a Trader! Where did all of these come from?
Could this be incentives to conquer city-states? Maybe some kind of religious belief?

well the civilian units were probably just captured... anyway, maybe there are civics policy cards that have an effect like this on city capture?

Yeah, hard to like that design decision at first glance. Wonders needing a tile and having terrain requirements was obviously to spread the wonders more evenly between civs. Is this a mechanic to encourage that even more? With this change I'll only start building one if I feel confident I can finish it. I mean, even more confident than in civ 5.

Interesting thing from Part 5 of continuing French Revolution video.

They are trying to build Great Library, and they do have a suitable spot - flatland next to Campus with Library. However, game does not allow them to build it there. They figure out why - they previously tried to build a Stonehenge there, which was stopped after 1 turn since somebody else built it.

They also figure out solution - it needs to be removed by Builder using "Salvage Wonder" function. And it does take a Builder charge.

I think this is truly great. I hate when the AI beats me on building wonders when it is just a turn or so left. Maybe this way you can use a portion of the wasted production for another wonder. If so, maybe you can save the production boost until you have the opportunity to build another wonder.

The graphic for Whales appears to have changed to dolphins.

Which is both creepy and not particularly accurate (I don't recall whalers finding dolphins useful in any way).

That's . . . weird. I mean, they could just push the dorsal fin back a ways, and then they could claim they're minke whales, which are still hunted to this day.

I'm slightly disappointed that the Fleet just shows as a single vessel instead of showing both models.

But the icon still shows a whale. A really strange thing to do.

Or it's a beaked whale.

Surely that's not final. Hopefully armies/fleets/etc will show more units than the base unit. For all the attention to art direction they've paid in VI it would be strange to not do something so obvious.

I agree (and hope!) that there is graphics for additional ships and units for Armies, would be really funky if not.

The end of the Spain video has the best look at the religious lens so far. Bordeaux has 5 Catholic (orange), 2 Islam (green) and 2 non-religious (clear) population with their relative levels indicated in the circular meter. This build also has numbers next to the religion meters, with Bordeaux showing 5 Catholic and 2 Islam with the same colors mentioned above. Valencia is showing 11 Catholic and 0 Islam suggesting it has pressure from Islam, but no followers yet.

The circle meter appears to have a "pulse" animation--expanding circle drawn inside the circle. Can see it for Barcelona @ 1:32.

I hadn't noticed this before, but you can collapse the minimap area. Closed @ 1:15 and Open @ 1:35.

That's Hinduism, not Islam!

Also, with how incredibly cheap builders seemed to be in that build, maybe salvaging a tile isn't a big deal. And Wonders would still be overall less risky than before, simply because you'll have less competition when building them.

@AriochIV

I noticed that you are missing Norway UB and Arab UB. Norway UB is Stave church and Arab UB is Madrasa. Their tooltips were shown in the video where Ed made his "Great reveal".
