Final FUS RO DAH picture as May, the Skrim Month is coming to a close:
Spoiler :
We have an eerie, yet cool picture.

Bonus points to you if you know exactly where this is.

Spoiler :
It took a LOT of mods to make it look like this.

Looks exactly like the very first Voice chamber, with the Draugr Overlord in the casket/chest thing

Wargame: AirLand Battle beta. Together with it's predecessor European Escalation a seriously underrated series, beats COH's socks off any day IMO.

From a 2v2 Ålesund.

The East German army advances on a hill designated as a defence line against the attacking americans. Unnoticed to them, an american recon helicopter and several hueys filled with US Army riflemen advances on the same position. American tanks swarm the village below, and F-15's take air superiority.

The advanced US forces are spotted right as their transports are evacuating. Taking some casualties, they dash into the forest. Later they would harass the German forces, taking out many elite paratroopers and even a Hind before finally being subdued.

Now knowing enemy positions, an A-10 rains death on even the heavily armored KPz T-72.

Thinking they hold the advantage the Americans reveal a huge force that has snuck up the forest on the flank and charge into a full blown attack.

However the germans are prepared for precisely such an attack with a deep defence. T-72's and infantry hold the forests in front while hinds and ATGM vehicles lie in wait deeper in. Mig-21's with cluster bombs are called in.

A Mig-25PD tries to take on an F-15C, two missiles fired and missed. F-15 returns fire and hits, but no kill. Having charged at each other, they meet at the frontline and are both taken out by gound AA.

Enjoyed European Escalate a lot. It suffered from a poor name in my opinions, but the controls and graphics are crisp and the game had the right level of difficulty that the niche market wants.

I really want to try the game but I feel like it would overwhelm me. Is there at least a pause function you can trigger so you can send your units here and there?

Actually, no, unless they changed it. You can only give orders in real time.

Yeah, only real-time. I would have really liked active pausing for single player as well, especially now that there will be a total war style map campaign and on the whole more SP focused.

What I really like about the wargames is that they try to stay away from the APM intensiveness and unit microing that dominate a lot of similar games, making it feel more like a modern Total War game than cold war COH.

I bought the beta and played a little bit, and the size is really daunting, along with the shear amount of units. But those are also pluses, I feel like there's going to be a very large amount of replay value once you get the hang of battle and control.

Also, is the SP campaign really going to be total war like? Now I'm really excited!

EDIT: Watched the campaign trailer, and now I am truly excited! I honestly only bought it because my friends were getting into the multiplayer with the beta, but now that I'm getting a replayable solo campaign as well, this seems like a solid investment.

Poor bastard.

Sergeant Kurvits! What did I tell you about having 7 AKS-74s?

I am right outside the Arena - that sign in front of me says Arena.
I never did discover the fate of this poor man.

Wait, is that a NES game, and do you find massive chunks of meat on the bone to restore your health, and are there bizarre minigames between platform levels?

If so, you might have just posted about a game that I played at a friend's house years ago and have been trying to figure out the title to for ages.

^ nope. it's a SNES game. it sounds like your game but there were no mini-games. it's pretty much a platform game with RPG elements that looks like it may have inspired Spore.

What map are the second and third one on?

Cause the skybox/background actually looks really pretty, compared to the ones with the strange looking mountains.

Ugh, I've been trying to remember the name of that game for years. No dice.

You mustn't have had an NES to think these graphics are 8 bit ;)

My parents didn't let me have a NES when I was little. My first game system was an SNES. There was a neighbor kid who had a NES and Atari, though, and I got to play video games with him for a couple hours a week on Friday and Saturday. The game I remember most is the caveman game, as I called it, and it was insanely addictive.

I should have phrased that better though, because you are right. The nostalgia kicked in and I thought I might have found the title.

I think it's Malmø. Lots of cool new maps now.

So, tried the campaign, a bit dissapointing so far really. I'd suggest jumping straight to the hard or very hard, large scenarios and rather set the AI easier. The small ones seem pretty boring.

Yeah, I noticed the new maps as well.

I tried the first campaign (die hard I think?) and there really wasn't anything to it, just do what the thing tells you.

I'm hoping that the later ones add a bit more of that "dynamic" aspect to it.
