Civ'ed told me to make Nelson Mandela. Then he reminded me that fedoras exist in the game. I added pink armor, and suddenly we have a pimp.

See, these are the reasons I did not care for Dark Souls. I was so sick of doing the same thing ad nauseam. It felt like a chore.I'm the kind of guy who absolutely hates checkpoints and redoing the same stuff over and over again. Yet in Dark Souls, it doesn't feel like these things are a problem, you always seem to be discovering or learning something no matter what you are doing. Everything is satisfying, not a chore.

Yea, dying and loosing all experience(souls) accumulated 10 times in the same portion of the game gets old fast. And backtracking to spend the souls you gathered would make all enemies respawn. So at some point it just felt like a game of memorization.
It's annoying, because most of the enemies I'll face are trivial and no threat and all... but then all of a sudden I run into a ridiculously overpowered enemy who quickly kills me, and I have to start the whole thing over again. Infuriating. Some sections are harder, some you go through faster. Believe, I'm usually the first person to say they don't want to redo something, but it never went to the ad nauseum level for me. I think it's because I rarely die when I don't expect it, and there are enough bonfires and shortcuts to alleviate a lot of the repetition.
You can often run past them or avoid most fights when you're just attempting to fight a boss again. Anyway, bonfires are usually not far from big threats. Usually. It's annoying, because most of the enemies I'll face are trivial and no threat and all...

XCOM: Enemy Unknown with the Enemy Within expansion, if I recall correctly.
