Security Wall Along the Mexican Border?

The image America needs to send is that we will allow only the people we want into the country. The Indians let illegal immigration get out of hand, now they are stuck on reservations when they used to own the whole continent. Addmittedly the Mexicans are not as well armed as the illegal immigrants the Indians faced. We should also consider how Texas revolted from Mexico.

The people who have replied here are more honest than the author of the article. This wall has nothing to do with keeping terrorists out, its for keeping Mexicans out. I'll try to preempt the people who will no doubt want to say, Mexicans-terrorists, whats the difference. My answer is theres a big difference between a guy washing dishes in a building, and a guy out on the street planning to blow the building up.

I know where they can get some cheap labor to do it.

Send us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free...as long as they're white christians

I'll tell you, when I had my fast food joint, nobody worked harder than the Mexicans that worked for me. Any two Mexican workers were far superior to any three Americans.

Yes, lets kill people. I want to Rio Grande littered with rotting, bloated Mexican corpses.

A MASSIVE violation of human rights.

I'm probably asking an extremely ignorant question, but here goes anyway: What exactly is the matter with illegal immigration?

It allows buisness to hire people for cheeper then minimum wage, while at the same time taking jobs away from the legal citizens.

Good for buisness (such as yard work), bad for residents trying to work for a buisness (such as yard work).

This also only happens with the low income jobs, such as yard work, burger flipping, and construction.

As the great Maddox said (http://maddox.xmission.com/) in one of his articles, by forcing companies to pay illegal immigrants the same as US citizens and legal immigrants, the incentive to hire illegal immigrants is somewhat destroyed.

Well it's not a really ignorant question. It's actually a pretty good question. The way I like to explain the difference between illegal and legal immigration is the use of a neighborhood. You live in a nice house with the white picket fence and perfect lawn etc while next door to your house is a dumpy house that is very dingy with 4 rusted cars on its dirt lawn. Now the children in this dumpy house want a better life. So they 'illegally immigrate' or, to put it bluntly, break into your house and live there. You don't know that they're living in your house but you notice your utilities bill is more than it normally is. It is my understanding that illegal immigrants can't pay taxes because the fact that they are in the country without the government's knowledge and permission comes to light and they're kicked out. It is also to my understanding that legal immigrants take the time to ask the government to enter government territory. Usually if you pay a processing fee, they'll say "Sure! Come on in and enjoy your stay!" or something to that effect.

So basically from what I'm understanding, legal immigration is like knocking on a persons house door and asking permission to come in and the owner giving you some forms to fill to stay in the house. Whereas illegal immigration is like someone breaking into your house and not contributing to the upkeep of the house because if they were to, the owner would notice trespassers and call the cops on them. It's simply a dull version of being polite and respecting people. Of course I want to be kind and nice to people less fortunate than myself, but I'm not going to allow a homeless person come into my home uninvited while he or she contributes nothing to the bills. It simply isn't done.

Stopping illegal immigration is not the same as stopping immigration.

Here's a way to stop illegal immigration:

Make Mexico a liveable place.

That would be the way to go, but thats a job for the Mexicans to do, not us.

I don't know enough about this subject to have something clever to say, but if immigration is as huge a problem in America as it is here, and if this wall-project will be effective, then I understand why they build it.

Though they should cancel the Mexican debt also, as it would help Mexico get back on it's feet.

But think of the environmental consequences!

At least the vultures will be well-fed!

:goodjob:

PS

I think patrols of Daleks would stop the problem.

Mexico is a livable place compared to most countries around the world but the problem is that America has even better standards of living. Here in Texas you'll find that most illegal immigrants only stay temporarily to earn a lot of money then go back to their families in Mexico.

But there needs to be better security on the border. Building a wall is just a costly waste since they could just dig under it or go around it. There needs to be more border security that should focus and curbing drug and human trafficking by coyotes. Each year there are many Mexican immigrants who are cheated out of their money and lives by coyotes who are usually connected to prominent criminal rings.

I heard one case were a Mexican worker spent his entire life savings to be transported in a big rig into Arizona only to be left in the desert and die of dehydration.
