Sentus Populusque Rmnus

Salvete amici.
Adivabo Romam gloriae. Omnes alios civitates deldendae sunt ab nostriis copiis. GLORIAE ROMAE!

Spoiler :

Translation:
Hello friends.
I will help Rome to glory. All other states must be destroyed by our soldiers. Glory to Rome!

Sorry, I skipped the metagaming part of your post.

Well, there are some tips anyway, it's not exactly hardcore metagaming, but some knowledges about the mod.

Still I think you should stick to the initial spot and settle exactly there.

I'll avoid trying to describe my metagaming ways of thinking the game (which won't change my policies, if I have the opportunity to enact one someday).

For now just don't explore too far, animals are fierce in this game and they may enter borders too (sorry, another tip, but I think that's a good one!)

Actually those aren't grasslands but swamps.

Regardless, I still say we settle 1S and garrison 1 warrior while the other is put on auto explore.

Hmm err.... how can I say that without breaking the rule of metagaming...

Me thinks we are so undeveloped by now that we can't see a bunch of resources like Wheat, Corn, Cow, Pig, maybe even Fish.

Me still thinks we should be on the starting spot, it may be better placed in terms of resources we will pop one day. And a hill is always better to defend ;)

Me thinks we should have access to the ocean. Me very smart. :smug:

DKVM seems to be in the minority, unless someone else comes along to support his suggestion we are going to stay right where we are on this here hill.

It also seems certain that we will leave a warrior here and sent the other out, but which way is still to be decided.

Hey, I already said to put one on auto-explore

If we really can't agree on where to send him I guess that's what I'm gonna do.

Btw if you don't mind me asking, is your nick an abbreviation for something?

I said to send him North earlier Mr. Caesar

My proposal is he checks the surroundings of Rome to take a look at the region and then come back, if not we may lose him to pesky barbs (and the black area won't get visible forever anyway).

I prefer Donkey Kong vs. Jumpman

Well I said send him North a while ago and this is early Rome so the democracy is first come-first serve :D

First of all, early Rome was a monarchy before it became a republic. Second, I wasn't complaining on losing the vote. I'm complaining that he was treating my proposal like a last resort rather than a real proposal to vote on.

First of all Rome was a grass and some hills in 4000 BC  also, by the word "Senatus" that implies some sort of democracy. I know about the monarchy and Etruscans and all that mess.

After many a lengthy discussion around the camp fire it has been decided that our new settlement shall be established right here between these hills next to the river. It shall be known as Rome, named after our great chieftain Romulus. For some reason his brother Remus seemed to have a problem with that and was thus sent out to take a closer look at our surroundings, taking a band of warriors with him.

Ten years later Remus is still regularly taking hunting parties to the hills, but one day he comes across something unusual: Another human being. Several of them in fact, looking like they were gathering berries in a forest. Remus tried to communicate with them, but neither could speak the other's language. Since the mostly female group didn't pose a threat the Romans decided to leave them be and head home to tell Romulus of this incidence.

In Rome meanwhile every last inhabitant had now finally a hut to call their own, the biggest one naturally belonging to Romulus and his family. The chieftain was overseeing the construction of a barricade around the settlement when he saw his brother coming back. The hunting party had brought less food than usual with them, and after Remus had stepped over the pile of rocks the Romans were planning to make a wall out of he demanded an explanation, whereupon Remus told him of the encounter in the woods. Romulus found this most intriguing, and decided that the whole settlement should know of this.

Romulus and Remus now ask you, fellow tribesmen and women, shall we continue our exploration of the mountains? And what of those staying at home, now that the settlement is mostly finished? Shall they help finding better ways of hunting and making weapons or rather see if we can't somehow grow our own food? Maybe the spirits of the winds and woods can give us answers no mortal man could think of? And how much are we to invest into our research efforts? The second great tribal meeting is on!

Cool :D I didn't realize this was the accurate European map. I don't know why I didn't think that

For the record, Mysticism allows us to build Research, Agriculture allows Workers and reveals several food resources, and Hunting allows the Hunter unit, the camp improvement and reveals some other resources. All three techs have the same cost and would be finished in four turns.

Improvements cost Gold btw, but I still think we can leave the tech rate at 100% for now unless the overwhelming majority is against it for some reason.

If it makes you feel happy I'm gonna name the first unit I put on auto-explore after you, or rather a pseudo-Latin translation of your name.

Had at least one other person seconded your suggestion I would have done it, but since every option only got one voice each i picked the one I thought made the most sense. Currently we are but a small tribe which just became sedentary, so there really isn't any organized political system to speak of yet.

Wasn't it on a swamp or something?

In imperial times the senate was only a rubber stamp body, and it's still quite a while until we even get to be a republic I think.

Rome had seven hills or so. Also, I know that the senate wasn't much of a powerhouse in imperial times. Also, Rome wasn't populated until about 1000 BC give or take :)
