SGOTM 03 - Team VQ

Copper site first! Now that you have some turns with two cities for production! And get out a couple of warriors for fogbusting as namliaM pointed out here. I'd take the version of the second screeny. But see what changes after settling the copper site!

And stop editing that post please! Post a new one, will you? :please: ;)

Don't worry, I already have 2 additional warrior built.

Ok I'll stop editing now. When I continue the game later, I will start a new post, promise. Time to get some shuteye.

(Hindsight: SEEEEEEE, I told you I would post "tomorrow"! = 12AM)

Sure Robo. Have a good sleep and take care! ;) Wasn't your fault. The AI is a lot faster on the mids now!

Missing mids... well at least our treasury is nicely enriched and we can research faster then normal. There's a good side to everything!

WTH? Turn 110? I have never seen it that fast yet.... Geez.... or gotten it that fast, 118 was the earliest possible target :(

Uhm...

Why workboat? OK now that the mids have fallen thru, maybe it is helpfull...

OK so now we dont have to grow and our SE strat is out the window...

So now what? Get to fogbusting, Settle asap ? I am at a loss right now... Losing the mids is ....
Tho the game is not lost ... It is a tough break, I wonder who build it and where (i.e. any chance at getting it back?)

Tech is still Math => Alpha I guess?

Hey! Who stole our Mids??? :gripe:

Nevermind, RK, we've got a pretty nice start anyway with the GL (thanks to our strategicians). Let's concentrate on some settling now, and maybe we can reclaim what is rightfully ours at a later date.

I'd definitely like to see us reclaiming what is rightfully ours, Scowler.

And namliaM, chin up! We've done what we could. And I've never seen it finished that early, too. :gripe:

Introducing a new avatar is also something I really like! :p

Regards, .

uhhh.... I sense that somehow dot and scowler are avataring the same commercial (?) or web ad and that its a EU kind of thing... SO for us uncultured blokes on the other side of the ocean... wassupwitdat?

:aargh: ... too bad about pyramids ... anyway, that will allow us to continue on with 100% research for a while.

Let's go settling crazy to maximize out TGL benefit. I agree on copper site first. But that requires a galley. A round about trip north may takes too long. One more thing is there is at least one barb there ... so make sure we bring at least 2~3 warriors.

As for continuing on with other wonders ... I would place TGLibrary on a higher preference than Hanging Garderns. But without marble, it might be tough. Fortunately, we already have the forests pre-chopped. So, we might be able to do it.

We definitely need a library in St Pete. Remember our mid-term objective of lightbulbing Philosophy?

1. Workboat in Moscow was for St. Pete's, I read about it so I decided to build it.
2. We can build a warrior or three in St. Pete's before starting a library. We can go for GLib immediately after Alpha/Lit. Do we have archery by any chance? I would build 2 archers instead of 3 warriors in that case.

Also back to the Great Sci. topic, Biology requires Chemistry. So no Gunpowder = no Chemistry = no Biology. The plan is, after SciMeth and Astro, G. Sci will lightbulb Physics. Free G. Sci from Physics will lightbulb Electricity. Evil, no?

Gonna play my last 10 turns in 12-13 hours.

No, we don't have archery. Which is why copper site is crucial for axe.

I still think we should build us a galley for transport to copper site, but going north is okay I guess, if the land-route north is shorter than the galley-build time.

Jumping the gun too much on biology and phyics talk, if you'd ask me!

This we could do anyway from selling our techs...

I would forgo any wonders for a while, maybe colossus... cause we have water and copper... tho it is short lived....

Why bulb Philo tho?? Why? If we are going for backdoor, why? In order to benifit we have to get a great priest and shell out a lot(?) of missionaries...
I would rather use the Scientist on
- Education
- Astronomy
- Physics?

The biology/Chem talk is important tho. If we do want to go that route, this means no military edge on Grenadiers for a (long) while... and no Frigates for the same period.
If we forgo CoL and get Optics we can burn the/a Scientist on Astronomy...
We should be able to burn 2 great merchants on Metal Casting and CS, if/when we get them.
Tech, I would go for Alpha => Currency (lets get to even more cashing of trade routes :)

No archery, which IMHO means we have to get this land unfogged and settled asap. IIRC 4 warriors should do the trick. The first settler will be done before the Galley, I would settle him on "B" and use the second settler on the copper site.

Turn 110 (continued)
St. Petes starts a Galley

Turn 111
Using the secret arts of Alchemy, we have transmuted the stone used to build the Pyramids into 308 gold.
Mao Zedong adopts Representation
...ok so who wants to kick Mao's butt in the near future?
Micro St. Petes for max growth.
Forest is chopped, taking out 1/2 the cost of the galley. This is a :smoke:, see turn 119 for why.

Turn 114
Meet Mansa Musa

Turn 116
Confucianism founded by Mansa Musa

Turn 118
Kill barb warriors at copper site.

Turn 119
Moscow finishes Settler, start Worker
Research: Mathematics -> ABCs

Turn 120
Settler arrives at St. Petes
St. Petes' Galley due in 2 turns

So here's the aftermath of my turns... get it, afterMATH! Nyahaha!

You should now be telling us: The mids are nearly done !

Math...

Why start a worker when we allready have one (near) Idle?
1) We need settlers
2) Workers just have to be whipped! It gives to much benifit to skip that! (1 turn production + 2 pop = worker + 40+ overflow into the next project) (maybe it is still whippable? Tho I dont think it is....)

From the Minimap looks like we just need 1 more warrior to make our lands fog free...

Alex allready was a target (for me anyway) and we know they are on the same landmass... Might as well take out Mao while we are at it.... :D
Thats the price for stealing OUR mids!
Maybe use Alex' land as a staging area and invade Mao, get the mids and reverse back... Attacking Alex from 2 sides?

Whip a settler for 2 pop in both cities? Making the total 5...?
Add granaries in both?
Galley go one way, another galley go the other?
Libs?
Add barracks in Moscow, dont need one in Petes (for the moment) I think?

Offcourse we need everything now... so what are the prorities? I tried putting them in order....

If we're going backdoor then we don't need no steenking releegion, just guns and more guns and cossacks! Frontdoor diplomacy will be different though. With Aggressive AI on, it will take a lot of effort to send people to Friendly. But as the Practice Game proved, it is easy to gain and keep the tech lead even when losing Great Library on this map.

If we're going to rush to the UN then definitely not build the Colossus... Great Lib obsoletes with SciMeth but by then we would've generated a couple of scientists already thanks to its help.

An idea I tried in some (2.08 BetterAI) Noble-level diplo games was to go to Liberalism and pick Radio as free tech. I don't know yet how viable that is on Monarch.

About the worker, you're right. I should've started a settler instead. But hey, we'll have Alpha soon to trade for some iron working and start that jungle-busting.

Good plans though, Mailman. I agree.

uhhh.... I sense that somehow dot and scowler are avataring the same commercial (?) or web ad and that its a EU kind of thing... SO for us uncultured blokes on the other side of the ocean... wassupwitdat?
OK. Answering the less important question first:
The avatars are taken from a minimovie (20 secs) which is in German! So you better improve your German! :crazyeye: The vid can be found here.
If you dont want to improve your German I've provided some translation in the spoiler. But the real fun is to watch the facial expressions. It is one of the few vids that got better every time I've watched them!

Spoiler translation :
Lefty: You can kiss my a$$!
Righty: Oh, yeah? You can kiss my a$$, too.
Lefty: You can kiss my a$$ like ........... ....... ...... ....... four times.
Righty: Allways doubling yours!

German humor? Isn't that an oxymoron?

The counterpart to the USA's NTSB in Deutchland did a study of German drivers. It came as no surprise to learn that at any given point in time, 28% of all drivers on German roads were thinking about having sex. What did surprise the researchers was when they learned that the other 72% were thinking about invading France again. ::rimshot::

And now, we return you to our game in progress.

Turn 111

Mao Zedong adopts Representation
...ok so who wants to kick Mao's butt in the near future?
:borg: Mao, you can :run:, but you can't hide! Here we come, a$$hole! :ar15:

Turn 116
Confucianism founded by Mansa Musa
Wow that was whooping fast, too.

If we're not going for the hanging gardens ... trade maths asap (i.e. when alpha is in) for IW?

Workers just have to be whipped! It gives to much benifit to skip that! (1 turn production + 2 pop = worker + 40+ overflow into the next project) (maybe it is still whippable? Tho I dont think it is....)
I think it still is. And wouldn't we get overflow from the worker even if we whipped him on the last turn? I know it's not as perfect but still ok, hum?

Stinking german humour, namliaM? - So you liked it? ;)

An oxymoron? German humour? I don't think that's funny, frankcor. :mischief: And it actually isn't France I'm thinking about to invade. It's China! :D

Regards, .
