We already took Medina, and he recaptured it.
Usually i open 2 fronts when i got a superiority in quality and numbers.
We got decent numbers, but not enough quality for now, so i think it's better keep our troops concentrated in a single front.

Another thing i was forgetting.
After Steel (due in 1 t.) i'll shut research to upgrade some treb.
IIRC it's a cheap upgrade that worth the cost.
After the upgrades, we can go for Nat/Mt or for rifling, dunno.

Lookin' at the map, there should be a sort of inner sea in the Viking/Persian/Arabian continent.

Absolutely. I don't have time to check the save right now, but (from memory) the plan sounds fine. Just keep those troops coming and let the settlers come from the smaller cities.

I still think a surgical strike to raze the christian shrine is the way to go, but am unsure how to go about it. I'd also add that letting those AI islands survive is imo a better choice, unless they are worth it tile-wise. Let's stick to the gameplan and get the dom win.

NB- In the turns that Medina was retaken, there was just nothing I could do about the cavalry attacks - and the trebs that came with them. That will be the hardest part. We can bomb them with cannon, but just keep a heap of pikes handy, I guess.

Bloodlush, i think. And i recuperated my not played turns in my previous TS.
We're first in score now, we have the Sistine in Ecbatana, and we added Ligurian, too.
Razed Birka, Roskilde and Arbela.
Founded 3 planned cities, 2 for resources, 1 for land.
Took Vandal, the damn barbs have grens and rifles now.
Upgraded the possible, now res. RP, due in 12t @40% +5.
I trained some mace and LB, maces can be promoted to CR3, then upgraded.
Cyrus suicided (i helped this with cannons) an impressive stack in Haithabu.
I suppose Cyrus lacks horses, and Salad's horses are right N of Mecca: we can send a pillaging stack (2 grens + 1WE) there, hoping this is his only source.
I suppose also Cy lacks iron now, we control a source near Ecbatana.
I never seen a cannon around, but Salad should have Iron, he got frigates.
Watch that galleon N of Haithabu, sea combat is crippled.
I've built some structure here and there, and some missionaries too, to help our cash.

Sistine is a great help for expanding borders: we MUST keep that city at all costs (even the citizen gives 2 cult/t).

The plan is simple: build a couple settlers to colonize the big islands:
- the one NW of London and the one E of Carthage.

Keep always a big stack, never try to move with less than 6 units.
Go East of Ecbatana, keep or raze the city there, depends by how much land this gives us.

Please read carefully my last 3 or 4 posts.
Another thing, just came in mind: now we own Angkor Wat, so it's better run priests instead of engineers - stupid me, never thought on this in my TS.

Domination? still far away, some 41%, but Sistine will help on this.
 
I will check your results tonight Blubmuz. Large stacks are a must, with each of the three different types of counters (Pikemen, Elephants, Maces + Trebs or cats) Another lesson I learned is to not let him attack our units in a city. Because the Trebs and Cats are so overpowered, if we stay in a city and they bombard us several times, we are sitting ducks. It is better to attack them first and eliminate the artillery advantage. That is how I eliminated the initial threat from Cyrus' stack. Hopefully after Replaceable Parts is researched and the Rifling we can shut off research as Redcoats are a match for anything they will be able to throw at us. Not sure about the Angkor Wat effect and benefit of running Priests. There are so many aspects to the wonders and bonuses that I always find myself forgetting to make use of them. (I've found it's only worse for me in BTS)
 
Response to question I posed to AlanH about the end of the game in the maintenance thread.

"Most teams have actually finished - one way or another - so they seem to have beaten my original target, which would be 14th April.

1. Do you feel you need to take a lot longer than that?

2. Why do you need to know whether teams have won, lost or retired before we close the game and declare the results?"

First answer will have to wait, second answer was just curiosity to see how we stack up against the competition.

It does appear from what he says that some (CRC?) probably have either already won (culture?) or lost. I still want to play this to the end. The date of April 14th (plus a week if needed) means we will have to speed up our gameplay.
Blubmuz, my proposal would be to speed the schedule up to 24 hrs to get the save, and 24 hrs to play, if no "I've got it" within 24 hrs, the next person should start without delay.If Civicide can start us off within 24hrs then go, if he can't it's on to Sweetachshon. We may need to speed it up even more if we get short for time.

Let's finish strong, I know we've already beaten some teams and one of them is neck in neck with us.

Agreed. Furthermore, If civ doesn't grab it within about 6 hours, I will play.

Re: teams already finished. I have no doubt that most that went for the early astro lightbulb have won. In some previous sgotms which were won by conquest, the laurel teams played almost flawlessly, sand exceptionally conquered at dates that astounded me for the starts and maps. That said, I have never been a good rusher, and always think I need just one more tech. My SP games are rarely early conquests :)

Played something like 11 turns until RP finished, up next, rifling. We're still limping along at 40% +a few gold, and it's about 12 turns. We've taken Susa on the west coast, and razed Sardis on the east coast, but this was soon replaced by Ragnar with another city housing a machine-gunner. :sad: I'd imagine this is only his 2nd city, so it's not too worrying, and we could easily leave it for later.

The TS was basically a troop build-up (and putting out the fires that Saladin's cavalry keep starting): we have an armada heading north past the old Sardis site of the east coast, with a fat force near Haithabu which can either get on the boats that return after dropping off the troops, or walk up themselves. A small 3 galleon force is off our east coast with the intention of pillaging Saladin's horse, but I noticed that Saladin had a frigate or 2 out, and so they are waiting for an escort. There is a settler sitting on the island off our NW coast, and another waiting to cross to join it. In addition, a GArtist is in Haithabu - perhaps useful for a bomb at the right time.

With lots of troops, the next TS should be carnage. :) With machine guns around, transports and destroyers are just around the corner, so we should make a big push with all the troops we have.

If i remember correctly the map, there should be a city between Susa and Ecbatana, let try to take that, it will give a lot of land.
Pillaging Salad's horses is a must, but we need to be safe on doing this.
I suggset to cover the galleons, then land with a big stack, pillage, then re-embark the stack and stay close to avoid Salad can hook the horses again.

They need OIL for destroyers, and we need to - at least - locate it.
So i suggest to go for SM after Rifling.
As i experienced, Redcoats are hard to beat, even Infantry is not much.

We'll wait if Civ post a "got it" in 12 h. from now, otherwise GB is UP.
With all that effort, i don't wanna submit an incomplete game.

There is. I snuck a look and forgot to mention it. It's the capital, ?Persepolis?, and is housing a couple of rifles and some obsoletes. Cyrus seems finished. Only Salads cavs are causing any problems.

I was thinking of Nationalism after Rifling for the draft, but I honestly think it'll be over before the next tech hits the battlefield. Just keep the cannons coming!!

You press alt-E ingame. E for entry, I guess. It's one of the HoF features, like alt-B for adding battle stats to the log, which I love but always forget.

I rushed our Research and we now have Redcoats! I have cut back spending to save money to upgrade our current units. We lost Susa, our brave defenders were just overwhelmed and they missed being reinforced by 6 or 7 turns. Fortunately though, we have taken one of Saladin's Cities on the North end of the Continent. I wasted one turn by landing our Troops 2 turns away from the city ( not intentionally). I upgraded our Musketman in that city to a Redcoat. Let's see Saladin take him on! He will be 160% against Cavalry or about 36 +/- defense. We have three Settlers in place ready to pop a city, but they can probably wait a little while to keep our maintenance costs down. I wonder if it might be wise to go for Nationalism and the MT so we can build West Point. We should have a GE soon in Athens. This I think would make our Redcoats eligible for 5 promotions as soon as they are produced.

Good Luck to the next player. If no word from Civicide it's back to Blubmuz.

Susa was kind of diversionary anyway.. I really considered razing it and jumping back on the boats. Who took it back, and with what force?

Re: techs - I'll have to check the save, but I don't think we'll have enough use of WP, but that depends how close we are to dom. Nationalism, so we can draft a million redcoats, might be nice.
 
With redcoats the music will change :evil:.
Surely i'll shut off research and upgrade any possible unit at the front to redcoat.
As i already said, West Point does not worths its cost, never.
I build it only in my time games, to increase score.

I got the save, i think to play tonight (some 10 h from now), unless Civ doesn't post a "got it" and declares to play and submit in max 20h from now.

Strange this conduct by Civ :dunno:.
