[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Home Slices

I assume we get gold in trade for +2 also, then there's Representation giving out several +3's.
So the point is: I'm ready to settle (5 cities) with the resources we have. We can try to (should be able to) find 2 off-continent or 'settle' for 2Clams City in the south.

Both offshore lands are relatively close to our capital.

We either settle silver or canal before we can even explore the northern land. The difficulty posed exploring it and its size make it prime territory for mapmaker torturing us with two or more choice settling sites, when we only have one seller left.

Let’s discuss what techs we want minimally before we kill our research with settling three seafood or other places…

Now: AH t13, Myst t20, Sail t30?

W/Canal now: AH t14, Myst t24 (going full tilt on research, else t25), Sail t37?

Sailing probably sooner as fur, farms comes on line.

Yeah, my past experience makes me want Pottery, but thinking about it, we don't need it yet.
Pottery doesn't give us granaries, it only let's us start putting hammers in there. It'd be different if we could whip.
Our cities will have grown to their happy cap by the time the granary finishes, so it's useless until we whip.
All our coastal cities will be busy with wbs, monument, galley.
Our capital will just have to keep busy with 3rd worker, Henge, and/or warriors (once they don't incur maintenance -- i.e. we settle #4 and #5)

I would settle silver if we had a worker up there, but that will be ~T30, so best to just wait for sailing in case we have to emergency settle triple-seafood because SB approaches.
I'm leaning towards settling #5 the same turn we get Sailing. Research will recover quickly.

T31 is also when a Cows wb could net Canal.

Considering our capital has wet rice should we Consider making a cottage or two asap?

sheep, rice, farmwine = ~T30... still no pottery/cottage yet
Tested w/save.
Actually it’s T 21 mysticism, T 31 sailing, but the monument is still T 26.

W/canal (T5) T23 myst, T33 Sail, T28 Monument, on T30 Canal is p2, 14/24f, 25/30h, cows wb has been exploring for many turns.

Food for thought. Clearly there’s an optimization on when to settle Canal.

I think Cows improves pasture-river farm-fur camp. I see no point in farming tundra river now. Also see no need to help the Science farmer.

One annoyance in testing is what to build in Science after the wkr before we get Myst. We don’t want a warrior or scout. Barracks meh. Leaves wkr which slows growth. Might be wkr till Myst. Frees us to work the wine till sheep pastured.

Maybe T21 Myst is the time to settle Canal...it starts its monument immediately.

Yep, I'm definitely open to settling T5 or whatever someone discovers is best. (i don't have time to run scenarios on this)
Is canal getting a wb from Cows?

Science: yeah, a mix of worker and then henge. If we start a warrior those hammers might decay.

It's probably six of one half dozen of another. In other words, we could settle anywhere from T5 to T30 and basically come out even.
So maybe we continue to scout SB as suggested, and then either hit a wall, turn back and settle...or at the same time send a 2nd settler to settle around T12-ish.
That way we could grab a triple food, triple gold site that SB thought he was going to get.
I'll green light you to play on if others agree to not settle just yet. But test away if you like.

I agree to hold off on Canal for now. Let a follow up settler settle in a handful of turns (i.e. we revisit the situation when the 2nd settler arrives) and continue to push on with our settler to explore and meet the AI. There might be a small window where our settler can sneak past SB's culture before it expands and seals us off, although that's likely many turns from now.

Check out this sunset from last night's walk on the beach:

And the bioluminescence which is why we went:

Pita building a wkr in Sci now. How about a scout? He can take over for settler eventually. He’ll live as long as we want. Extra maint when the wb is built...but only for 11t. Actually not, if we settle Canal then.
