Team threads are up. Please get together, and decide your team names and captains. I'll change the thread titles when you give me the team names.

Thx Alan. BTW - are the threads meant to be open / visable to non-team members - they are, I peeked in two.

Yes, but it is against the rules to read the other team threads...

Yes, noted and pinned firmly in frontal lobes. I have also posted a warning in our thread for non-team competitors to rack off.

Edit - Free admission of 'guilt': I looked in on peanut (1 post by a lurker - no idea what he said as I didn't read past the first half line) & kikinit (no posts). I selected these at random expecting to be kicked out - I was surprised when I wasn't, hence my query above.

Future access will be via 'subscribed' threads.

@ruff-hi & everyone else: The easist thing to do is make a post in your thread and subscribe to the Maintenance thread. That way you never need to even come to the SGOTM forum to check your teams thread. Thereby removing the curiosity or accident of clicking on another teams thread. All you have to do is than check your User CP as linked on the top left of every page and it'll inform you when a new post has been made to either thread.

To subscribe to a thread click on the Thread Tools above the red bar and below the page numbers at the top of the page and than click on the Subscribe to this Thread. Another page will open up that you click on the proceed button. You subscribe to a thread in this way without having to make a post. Posting in any thread automatically subscribes you to it.

You probably already know this ruff-hi, but maybe others here do not. Good luck everyone! Except Team Smurkz, as we don't need luck, we've got skill! :D

I would certainly not go out of my way to get it in just for the logger... I much prefer you players use this game to learn write proper reports without using boring autogenerated stuff (not saying you in particular are using the logger that way.. havent looked up your SG reports, but have seen several people have misued it that way) :)

Realize that this is your opinion and preference, and not those of everyone else. Also note that Alt'ing out of civ4 still causes some problems (at least for me) that I'd prefer not to be forced to do. I don't believe it should be the SGOTM Staff who states how we should keep track of our turn logs, but instead a consensus of our SGOTM team. Just my 2 cents.

Yup - I do. That is the way I see what is going on - sometimes go whole days without checking the actual forums.

Re your so called skill - it will not save you. Anyway, it is chaos that wins the day, not skill.

[aside]is there a smack talking thread?[/aside]

I realize this.. this is why we if possible will provide the turnlog from the last turnset when you submit the save.

There are other problems with using HOF mod thou..

Letting some teams use it and other not is not really a good option, so this means either everyone or noone uses it..

You say you have problems with alt-tab.. some people crash when the game autosaves and sometimes when they manually save.. how many may get problems when the HOF mod is encrypting the saves? I dont know.. perhaps noone.. if it happens it will prolly happen 1-2 months into the game when the saves get larger...

What do we do if a new bug is discovered that has to do with HOF mod? Currently there is no way of switching to a newer version.

The probably easiest problem to fix is that GOTM webpages atm has no ability to handle saves with HOF mod.

I prefer the safer method and let the normal GOTM games test using the HOF mod first.. :)

Part of the charm of the SGOTM is that it is a spectator sport. We want to allow non-participants access to all team threads so that they can laugh wonder at the skills, ingenuity and lingustic abilities displayed therein. That means we open the threads to guests and non-team members, and rely on (a) good manners by team members and (b) staff vigilance to ensure that players stick to their own threads.

So it's a gentlemen's game then? That probably DQs about half my team. I'll try to keep the scurvy swine in line, though. Wish me luck!

Is there a way we can make it so that the "last post" on the main page or Civ 4 forum doesn't point to a thread in this forum? I'll usually enter a forum from that link out of habit and I'm concerned I may jump into a team's thread by accident. Don't know if it's possible, but it'd be nice.

I don't know of a way. It's pretty fundamental to the way the forums work. I can only recommend care, and using your own shortcuts rather than the navigation arrows in this case. When the Progress and Results Page opens you'll have a link on your team name to the last post in your thread.

If you do hit the wrong thread, as long as you recognise the error fast, hit the back button or close the window, and get straight out, there should be no damage done.

The team lists are in this post, #184, on the previous page

New Team #6 is now known as Chokonuts. Thread has been renamed and the name is changed in the list.

@Lobsterboy: The teams are pretty well stacked at the moment, but I'm afraid past experience shows that, with this level of new players, it's probable that we'll get quite a few drop-outs and no-shows at the start. So I'll put you first on the standby list :)

Well I guess that makes me #2 on the waiting list...if Only I wasn't moving into my house this past week, I would have caught it on time

Oh well .. I don't know too much about the game anyways

I guess that I'm kinda late for the party, but if anyone needs a sub, I'm available.

The answers to your questions:

1. Immortal
2. Yes, Gloably ranked 4th (although I didn't submit the Warlord GTOM 5 due to getting a new job and planning a wedding
3. No :(
4. Like I said waiting list #2 whoever wants an extra player.

BTW If I can't play to begin, may I still randomly (or chosen :mischief: ) be assigned a team to lurk and comment for?

I'm willing to be a standby, too.

@Memphus: If you are going to standby, then you probably need to avoid lurking on any of the threads---you could get information that your team wouldn't necessarily know.
