SGOTM1 Persia - Sign Up Thread

@leif - It won't be a problem. I played a SG with Alan and it is seamless.

Either way, but a no-war sounds interesting too. Of course isn't that the usual startegy for an OCC or 3CC? Again, I've not done most of these, so I'll not cast the deciding vote.

I like that idea - Space/Culture/Diplo would be a great timing challenge. Plus something, no one else is planning on doing.
i like this too :) , though, I think we should not rule out starting a fight if we need space to do it, especially early.

The 20k is tough to work with for timing. I think the 100k would also boost the science (Universities & Libraries) to help with the space race. With 100K you can sell a couple of culture producers to slow things down if you need to. The hardest part is timing the launch with the vote. One more thing about a never at war game is the turns are faster. I'm playing one in GOTM 30 and have reached 1600 AD already. Things go fast with only city build orders and workers to move. No bombing with 20 catapults followed by 6 MDI attacks, then move, move, move, move and repeat battle, makes the game go a lot quicker.

Check out this SG for a great multi goal win

Ok, thanks, I never noticed... My net has ben awful for a couple of days, so I must have missed it...

The ratings are based on HOF numbers. Those people without a rating were given a generic one depending on the level of game they play and win regularly. Those people that didn't respond to my PM were just given and average rating. The ratings are therefore innacurate, but it's the best I could do. Higher is better BTW.

:hmm:

I never got any PM or anything nor have I got ny scores in the HOF... and still I seem to be rated...

I rated you from the level of game you play in the SG forum.
The 3CC AW game and reading through it gave me a fair idea as to your standard in comparison with the players I play with regularly. :)

I only pester people with PM's if it is absolutely necessary.

Hoi Team ;) consisting of:

What version will we play? I am a n00bie to SG and I expect to learn from this SG. When will we start discussing the pre-game situation?

Ok, that settle's it. :)

But isn't a plain OCC a bit easy, if this is on Regent? :hmm:

Maybe we could get some twist to it? :) AW? Spaceship?

Greetings fellow Civmates.

I have never tried any of the variants but, in a Regent game, AW sounds like a worthy goal. I always thought that multiple victory conditions would be fun to try, but I'm not that good!! MB's interpretation of RBCiv doesn't sound like it would be too hard to do either.
We seem to be of similar mind.
Whatever play order you want to do Alan is fine with me.
With my limited experience of Civ3, SGs and variants, I'm not necessarily the best person to led this merry band, but I'm happy to fill an administrative role. And as my name's at the top of the team roster, I figured I'd better get the ball rolling. I wanted to get a feel for the goal first, as that takes some time. Then we can look at the detail of who goes first and so on. I like the idea of AW, but I'd be happier if at least one member of the team has done it before, as I'm sure there are lots of specific things to look out for and worry about.

do you think it would be possible to convince Ainwood that we should have a separate thread space in the GOTM forum for SGOTM much like the Quick Games section that is there now?
There's a debate in progress about this now. On the one hand we don't want to hide it away, but on the other we want it to seem like a single event. That's all a spectator thing really. As players we shouldn't really care, as we are not going to be able to go looking at the other threads anyway, and so we only have to keep track of our own thread when it's posted. FYI I do that in SGs by making two browser bookmarks/shortcuts for the thread - one to its first post and one to its last. The first one is easy, the second one is just an edited version of the first, with "&goto=lastpost" appended to it.

I know AlanH has a Mac and I have a "PeeCee", is there anything we have to do to make sure our saves can be transfered?
Trust me! My zipped save files are as good as anyone's. Worry about the relative quality of my play, not the technical differences

An OCC AW on regent?? You are a brave, brave man Wiz.

The game threads are now up. Late applicants will be added to the existing teams, so don't be surprised if you get an extra player over the next couple of days.

The game threads have been put in the Quick games sub-forum this time round. I was reluctant to do this because they would be more visible in the SG forum, but I didn't think it was fair to put all the traffic into there.

STAFF TEAM
SLINGERS TEAM
BUGSYS TEAM
AKOTS' TEAM
THE X-TEAM
SAMILDANACHS TEAM
ANKKAS TEAM

Please check into your threads as soon as possible. The team leaders will be my point of contact throughout the game. I know some of you haven't volunteered - too bad :D

The game hasn't been discussed in this thread this month, which is great. Thank you.

I'd like to take part, if I am not too late. Playing an AW game seems most interesting to me with Persia. My current level of play is between Monarch and Emperor (winning Monarch while having lost my first two Emperor games). If that is enough, I'd like to be on board; I can play in Civ III 1.29f or the Conquests PTW version.

Mad-bax: Maybe you should post the teams in the first post so that team members don't have to search through the pages to find them. At the rate posts are building up in this thread it will be 30 pages by midnight.

Also, I use the Netscape browser and just went to the download the game. I got a page of computer jibberish. This results because the Netscape and I believe any AOL browser cannot download a .SAV file. You would have to zip the files for those browsers to download the game. In the alternative, anyone having trouble could use the Internet Explorer browser which does not have this problem.

To get any browser to download a .sav, or any other format unknown to the browser, just hit Back to get back to the page with the link then right click the link and select the appropriate option to download to disk.

Remember ... RIGHT CLICK IS YOUR FRIEND ;)

Let's check with mad-bax that AW+5CC is accumulated, i.e. we will get Emperor bonus. Second, there is some variants of AW
1)Declare at the end of turn,
2)Declare when close Diplo screen,
3)Declare without first trade (i.e. no map-tech eschange at all).
4)Talk at once if contact possible (i.e. if contact is possible, can we run away from contact and NOT declare)?

Hi Vaiar:)
A few players have posted in the thread that M.B. has set up for our team in the quick games sub-forum. I look forward to seeing you in there.

SAMILDANACHS TEAM

It's taken me a long time to notice this thread :o--hope I'm not too late.

I'd like to play in a PTW game, and (since my schedule is uncertain after May 5) on a team aiming for a quick military victory. I assume this would mean Team Staff or Team Slinger.

Mad-bax, I realize I'm not making your life any easier by applying this late, and with these conditions. So if you don't feel you can conveniently fit me in, no hard feelings--I'll just play the next one.

The increased traffic this month have highlighted a couple of issues in the way sign-ups should work and how the different threads should work. I'll try to do better next month.

I will zip the saves shortly and fix all the threads.
I will amend the first post to show all the rosters.

Northern Pike. With you there are enough people to start another team. Maybe this would be a better solution. I'm waiting for a couple of PM's to come back and hoplefully the new roster will be up this afternoon.

If there is still a space availabale, I would be interested to join. 1.29 only (Macintosh in my case). I never did an always war before ...

PS: And I will be gone from 9th till 12th on Easter vacation.
