Yeah, there seems to be a bug here.. right after I drafted I would get the draft button on size 1 towns too if I used the arrow-keys after drafing :p
 
Re. food, I've concluded that our primary objective has to be to maintain the maximum population growth rate in all towns - I like simple rules.

So if any city is not going to grow next turn I'll see if I can make it do so, or at least reduce the turns to grow, either by MM'ing or by pop rushing low food citizens away. Culture rushing will happen when the town's growth rate won't suffer too badly, or at all, by doing it.

At least, I think that's what I'm doing :rolleyes:

I've reached 1110 AD - 5 turns on from where I picked it up. I'm happy to take it on to 1150 AD - another 4 turns, but it will take another day. Is anyone else itching to grab it, or shall I press on and deliver tomorrow?

FYI we are at 15786 + 751 cpt. We have a couple more French cities, and we are still weak vs Babs, average vs America ad strong vs the rest. Our gpt is small but positive, helped by a couple of lux deals. France will talk now, but doesn't have anything interesting to say.

PS. Our cptpt has averaged 55 over these turns, which is better than the target 48 to intercept tao. However, we need to keep an eye on the other teams. Peanut are about 5 turns ahead of tao's curve. We're winning the spamfest, though.

My only concern was people rushing their turns to try to play 10, but if you have the time go for it.

Very good.. as I expected the cpt increase got higher as more irrigation was completed, and more of the newly founded cities started growing.
In my HoF game I was doing 80 cptpt on average in the rush phase with same number of cities as we had at the end of my turns, but that was with babylon, and slightly better terrain.

Btw.. I hope you leave the single scientist working on electrisity.. we need it to irrigate some southern grass tiles)

Yes, I've been continuing with that, but we still have over 20 turns to go on Electricity, and we really need to have finished our main culture rush in the next 30, so I doubt it will help much.

After action report

1. France. I've moved a stack of cannon onto the mountain overlooking Brest. You should be able to maek a hole in their defences. I've also put five in Besancon to give the approaching rifle a headache. We can, of course, make peace for cahs, but I think it would be tidier if we can grab Brest and maybe Marseilles first.

2. There are groups of workers on bare tiles ready to road, and some workers are stacked in sixes in forest in old Iroquois. The intention is that you can road the forests, then move additional workers in as you wish to chop them and then irrigate and rail. It's a few extra worker turns to road before chopping, but gives much more flexibility. I think I've irrigated and railed just about everything on the southern continent that is roaded, and replaced all the mines, but I do still find the odd mined grass as I search for food. You'll also find a few workers in odd sized groups finishing tasks.

3. We're still cash positive ... just! But we're starting to build cathedrals now, and the maintenance is going to sky-rocket. Please also not that there are several substantial deals expiring in 5 or 6 turns, all paying us gpt. we need to renew all that we can, preferably for more cash.

4. The culture rush has eased off slightly in the last couple of turns. I think this is because we're pumping out some more settlers, which is good, because we need more towns where we can build cheaper temples and libraries. We're almost at 1000 cpt, and the average increase in cpt/turn over these 9 turns has been about 55. We need to try to sustain this average, or at least 50. I've done a quick MM check on the towns, but please do it again, and look out for unhappiness. I've had a few riots.

5. I'm hoping I won't see this again. We should be done in about 40 turns. If anyone sees me volunteering for a 100K pop-rush-fest again, please just remind me of this turn set :eek:

[EDIT] Some towns are set for cavs. I was going to be selective about rushing a few to augment our reduced strength, but haven't sorted out which they should be.

PS I've uploaded our 1100 AD save as well, to give a slightly smoother look to our culture curve.

Below is the detailed curve for the last 65 turns, turn by turn.

@Gator: Markets are already having a dramatic effect on happiness, and we may have to build a few more - I've already got a couple in progress. They multiply tax income after corruption as far as I know, so they'll multiply 1 gpt by 1.5 and round it down to 1. Certainly there's no extra cash coming from the markets we have. Every town delivers precisely 1gpt, plus any taxman income.

I've already been using taxmen. Anywhere I can create a taxman without sacrificing growth rate I've done so.

We have a savings account of over 5000 gold. It's probably good for about 15 turns later in the game. I've been staving off the time when we start eating into it, and we need to continue to watch it carefully. Another 15 to 20 turns should see us through the main culture rush, and then, once we get to a cpt rate that will take us to our target, we should probably switch back to Despotism for the final ten or so turns.

Oops! I've just realised I didn't reallocate a scientist in my last MM session. We should probably keep research going on electricity.

So markets, as far as income is concerned, are useless. We should definately try to keep that big cash reserve until the late game.
 
It's late game now :D I suggest we use F4 *every turn* and look for opportunities for the AI to help us. France will give us an arm and several legs for peace for example. Specially if we beat up her current capital as well.

[EDIT] Every city we plant delivers one gpt, effectively paying for its own temple, so we can consider temples free, and should build them as fast as possible. I was waiting for the shields required to drop to 20, but maybe we should rush them as soon as we have a rifle to disband and a second pop point to rush with, even if we are wasting half the rifle. We could also consider disbanding some of our obsolete units to get a few extra shields out early.

BTW: Note that you can disband a rifle in a town that needs 21 shields to complete a temple or harbour, as there will be one more shield into the box in the interturn.

Don't forget that we can sell off improvements we don't need, like barracks.
