SGOTM6 - Xteam

Yes, I was avoiding doing that just yet, as we may need to replenish our cavalry. I've already pop rushed one and upgraded a knight. But we prolly only need half a dozen barracks as a contingency in case Babs gets fresh.

BTW I don't think you get a lot for a barracks - 3 or 4 gold per?

 Wow! What a turnset!

And thanks for the university in Willowbrook! :)

Any tips for the next players?

BTW - I believe selling barracks nets 5g, and of course the 1 gpt in maintenance. And they cost one pop point or a rifle to replace.

Would a market plus bank result in an extra gpt? Since both are free, that would be extra income. But probably shouldn't be considered until after the four culture builds.

Does that look like a lot of thought?! :goodjob: I was exhausted reading it, never mind doing it..... Excellent work Alan! :goodjob: :goodjob:

Will get the save and have a look. :mischief:

Good luck Tomoyo......time for some fun MM????

Will get it and hopefully start playing tomorrow if the Randomness of save malfuncts don't strike. For those that don't know, I haven't been able to load certain saves (others are fine) for no apparant reason. That was with C3C, though. It should work on vanilla...

ooks like you are an expert at culture building afterall,
It didn't feel like it. I suspect I may have stored up some unhappiness for future players, and I didn't feel really in control of the overall process. My main target was to try to build at least 50 cpt per turn, and to get a few more settler builds going. If we can somehow continue that trend we stand a chance of beating Peanuts and tao.

Any tips for the next players?
As well as the usual F4 checks, plus France-bothering - we do seem to be getting into a pattern here - I made several passes through the cities each turn mostly using F1 and eyeballing the map, but also using CivAssist when it occasionally worked . This wasn't rigid, but these were the things I tried to cover:

Pass 1: Sort F1 by reducing population, and draft all size 7 cities back to 6.

Pass 2: Look for towns with 20 shields left to go, and rush their temple or harbour.

Pass 3: Look at all size 6 towns and decide whether to rush their next culture building or let them grow back to 7 for another draft. If it was getting very unhappy and unable to sustain any more drafting (Tokyo may be an example now) I pop rushed it down, usually for a cathedral, and then set it to a market build. If it was happy enough and could sustain one-turn growth I let it grow again.

Pass 4: A visual scan of the map looking for towns that are at pop 4 and growing in 2 or more turns. Zoom to each one and see if it can be MM'd along with the surrounding ones to reach one-turn growth. If not then consider rushing its improvement, with or without rifle disbands, aiming to keep its pop at 2 or above. Now that most of the grass is irrigated and railed, pop 2 generally allows growth in 3 turns max from an empty food box. If the total culture rush count looked a bit low I erred on the side of rushing to keep it going at 50 cpt per turn.

Pass 5: If we have any spare rifles left over, check for towns with 21 shields to go to complete a temple. Disband a rifle to complete the temple one turn early and retain the pop point.

Pass 6: Scan every town using F1 arrow keys to check for citizens working low food tiles (1 or 0). Optimise all towns for maximum taxmen and minimum turns for growth. This may involve more MM-ing with adjacent towns. sometimes some partial rushing to LBs or explorers, and sometimes there are quite lengthy iterations to rearrange whole areas. During this process I was identifying tiles that could be worked to improve food, and tiles that were under-utilised, and these gave clues about where to deploy workers and new settlers.

... And that's why I hope I don't see this one again :D

if we can keep up 50cpt growth every turn, then we will reach ~31.3k culture in 1250AD, and ~48.3k culture in 1300AD, ~70.3k culture in 1350AD, ~97.3k in 1400AD, and win in 1410AD.

A faster growth rate will drastically cut down the dates thou.. (60cpt growth will mean 31.8k in 1250AD, 50.3k in 1300AD, 74.3k in 1350AD, and a win in 1395AD unless I calculated wrong)

Edit: I did calculate wrong, and fixed it

To clarify, I treated 50cpt per turn as a minimum. The average during my turn was 55, and judging from Peanuts' progress I'd say it will be necessary to keep up this rate or better.

Two awards, I guess, unless score is used as a tie-breaker.

As Willow stated my comment on getting rid of barracks was for the reduction in maintenance cost.

@Alan - nice system, I'll probably use that method in Gator01, but we are running into cash problems there. We may have to switch out of Comm. in that one.

@Tomoyo - does your save dl problems have anything to do with the difference between attached files versus uploaded files? I know some people have had problems on servers with uploaded saves but if it was attached they could get the file without any problems.

BTW, good luck on your turns.

I have no problems downloading saves... it's the loading of them. I think I found out the problem (player before me can't be German ) so this should work.

Progress report: Done with the pre-flight. :crazyeye: Changed very little, just making cities grow faster, a few whips, and significant figures pissing away a very key shield. :crazyeye:

The score graphs are a bit interesting btw.. Team Peanut's score graph is already flattening out... only way I can see that happen is because they stopped expanding quite some time ago... poprushing and loosing pop would cause that too, but I cant see how they are poprushing much more than we do.. unless its because they dont have rails yet, and cant grow the pop back again fast.

Or perhaps it's because they don't have the pyramids - their spoiler isn't crystal clear on future plans, but they say that since France built the pyramids "there was no way to get it." :p We, of course, know better.... :)

Ten more turns from tao, and it looks like they are sustaining their 20 cpt per turn increase. They've reached about 80K at 1350 AD, running at around 1500 cpt, so another 12 turns should finish their game, as expected. Peanuts are about 4 turns ahead of them, but that downturn in their Firaxis score rate is interesting. It has to be down to either a reduction in territory - military setback? or a cutback in population - too much pop rushing? Either way, it may prevent them from sustaining as high a culture rate. Row and Live are on a similar culture curve to Peanuts, but their score curve has a low trajectory. It'll be interesting to see how both those teams progress.

Meanwhile, we still need to keep going at over 50 cpt per turn. I wonder if we can ....

Progess Report: I've played two turns, three interturns. (Is that the equivalent of three days and two nights or two days and three nights?)

Keep up the good work Tomoyo! :goodjob: :goodjob:

97 cpt, yes!!!! :D With all those Cathedrals, maintenance must be getting steep?

And 2 more French cities, excellent! :mischief:
