Shacknews Civ 5 review: No save games in multiplayer?

I have seen it confirmed that it can be saved elsewhere... I cannot imagine that they would pretty much remove the capability of playing games that are standard+ in multiplayer by making you unable to save the game and pick it up later.
 
The build that they're using may be lacking in some features?
 
2K Greg confirmed elsewhere (official forums?) that there are auto-saves in MP which can be used to restore a game from. Not sure if you can ONLY play simultaneous and no animations though? I thought those were options that the HOST could set up?
 
Yep you have auto-saves available. Game editors make mistakes sometimes, this is an example of that. :)
 
No animations in MP? Is that an optional thing?

And no saving has to be some kind of mistake. How could they leave something like that out?

If these aren't available it would indeed be a big gamestopper for most "casual multiplayer gamers".
 
Currently you can't manually save the game in multiplayer, but every player gets autosaves, and you can set them to be saved out as frequently as every single turn. You can load from these saves if you want to continue a game later.
 
Good, but what about simultaneous turn and other option (like animation)?

Some of the multiplayer preview where played in sequential turn, was that pulled out of the game... I hope not...

That... seems odd. Any reason? I really hope the default save mode is every turn or you're going to have a lot of pissed off players who've lost multiple turns every time they load it up.

No animations in multiplayer was an intentional design choice, to help speed up multiplayer. It's possible that there will be an option to have them in a future patch; I'll check this.

It's not the default but it's an option right there in the game setup options. I think it's 5 turns by default? I don't remember for sure.

Thanks for these info, auto-save is not a big problem... But I'd realy like to know if you have changed your mind about sequential turn in multiplayer. Is it realy only simultaneous turn now?

Preview had said differently and this is a very big deal for me...

Filed along with Modding? One day perhaps to be realeased. :lol:

the tie in with steam surely must provide a pitboss option, even if you have to pay extra.
