Get the in..... NOW! There will be no waiting for those who submit late.

sheep, im going to be gone for this week and all of next week so can the papal states be npc for this next week

Sheep, I just wanted to let you know that getting stuff done at the last minute is not my modus operandi.

So, forgive me.

They'll be in earlier next time. :p

No worries my friend I dont think so.

And for those who have not dont their orders yet, you still have 30 minutes in which to submit something. In fact make this 45 mintues. Update will be started as soon as deadline has passed, expect something in a few hours of the deadline.

Still missing 8 sets of orders, although I am not waiting for these people to submit their orders... Masada is the exception to this rule given he has let me know prior to the event and will be an hour behind the deadline at most.... Silver has given me a breif outline of what he wants to do and given his assignment that he was madly working on during my lunch break, due to lack of orders I will follow this best as possible if he does not get something more substantial to me.

In future if you are worried about missing deadline, I suggest to submit some standing orders or similiar at the beggining of the turn to ensure that something is achieved. I ask as a mod that if anyone has problems with submitting orders on time that they make some effort to contact me... I am fairly understanding in this regard so long as you realise that your nation will not operate at maximum efficency if no orders are submitted.

As this is the first turn any nation that does not receive orders, will be treated as NPC. Failing a notification that that player wishes to continue, their nation will become NPC and open to all players.

China will be found a new player after the update.

@ Churchill, no worries, have fun on your holidays, thanks for letting us know mate!

Update has been started.

Orders incoming in a couple of minutes.

Earthquake in Lisbon, Portugal - thousands die

A massive earthquake hits Lisbon, capital of the Kingdom and Greater Empire of Portugal. A princess is killed when masonry at the palace is distrubed from place and a gargoyle statue drops ontop of her. 3 days of national morning for the thousands of victims is declared and the disrutption that it causes, causes a slight downturn in the economic outlook of the Kingdom. Only the reassuring words of the King restore order after the intial panic.

(-5% stablity for Portugal, -1 IC a turn for Portugal)

The Comet Haley appears and causes some problems with doomsayers

The Comet Haley made a pass of Europe during this period. The slight rise in doomsayers occured during this period, and then receeeded very easily soon after it became apparent the comet did not foretell of impending doom. It has however led to large numbers of people flocking to the church in several European nations.

(-5% stabilty in HRE, Venice, Hungary, Poland, Russia, France. Swiss, Spanish Netherlands, England, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark-Norway, Sweden, +1 IC a turn from increase in church taxes for each Catholic state, +4 IC a turn for Papal States from extra Church proceeds, +2 IC a turn for increase in chruch taxes for each Protestant state)

HRE Election

The Electors met in Munich, capital of Bavaria to elect the next Holy Roman Emperor. The event was marred by the absence of the electors of Brandenburg and the Hanesetic League. The Catholics thus dominated the proceedings and although the Palatine and Saxony still voted for the Brunswick-Luneburg elector for Emperor, the Austrian Duke was crowned by Pope Clement at the end of proceedings. All hail Emperor Ferdinand I

Colonial Events

New England established.

King Henry VIII after establishing himself as Head of the Church of England declared that the new world that had been discovered by Colombus would not fall to the Paptists. Thus he launched an exploration and colonisaiton drive in his Kingdom and established the Colony of New England. He had wanted to call the colony's primary settlement New London, however the colonists have been calling it Henrytown in their King's honour and the name has begun to stick. Due to the immense budget set aside for the new colony, the colony is close to already becoming self-sufficent in under 2 years, a great feat of English planning and the population of the entire colony now has a population of one thousand!

(+English colony in North America: New England, 1 regiment transfered from England to New England.)

New Sweden established

King Gustav I in Stockhom seeing King Henry VIII of England's attempts in the creation of New England decried that why wasnt there a New Sweden. The exploration attempt was upgraded to a hastily assembled colonisation attempt under the advise of the Lord Admiralty who was worried of the large budget and potential that New England had once it became apparent that the plans for the area itself would not be able to work. The Swedish Captain Olaf Anderson was ordered to land to the north of New England and establish New Sweden, with the capital to be called Gustaville. The colony is established however it is not as great a success as the English colony, and thus will need a larger budget to have a chance of growing further.

(+Swedish colony in North America: New Sweden, 1 regiment transfered from Sweden to New Sweden)

Spice Islands claimed for the Empire of Japan

The Empire of the Rising Sun under the command of the Ashikaga Shogunate has sailed and declared the island of Serebu and the surrounding islands, famed as the Spice Islands in the West. While little was given in way of budget for the operation, it was a sucess mainly due to the vast number of arms involved and the richness of the islands captured. The Serebu colony with the capital of Nagata Kinchako being established. This colony now is home for two thousand Japanese, and is breaking even already, although with more investment it should become soon known as the jewel of the Japanese crown.

(+Japanese colony in Indonesia: Serebu, 1 regiment transfered from Japan to Serebu)

Jamesland established by the Kingdom of Scotland and colonise Gaelic Islands

King James of Scotland seeing the benefits of colonisation that his English cousin is reaping wished to also gain some slice of this pie. Vastly outspending every other potential European-colonial power in sheer budgeting, James sent ships both south and west to establish colonies. Along the African coasts Scotland colonised the Gaelic Islands (OTL Sao Tome and Principes) planting St. Andrew's cross on the fertile soil and established before long a profitable trading post.

Meanwhile on the mouth of the St. Andrew river (OTL St. Lawrence) the colony of Jamestown has been established. The inhospitable terrain is somewhat hard to colonise, however inside two years New Glasgow is a going concern.

(+ Scotish colony in Gaelic Islands and Jamestown established. 1 regiment transfered from Scotland to Gaelic Islands and Jamestown each)

Vinland established by Denmark-Norway

Denmark-Norway has re-established the old Norse colony of Vinland (OTL Newfoundland). This brings the total of colonies established in North America these last two years to four. The colony also finds out the fate of the medievel Norse.

(+ Persian colony, Puntland established. 1 regiment transfered from Persia to Puntland)

Second colonisation attempt of Denmark-Norway fails.

Denmark-Norway tried to send out a second colonial expedition, however a series of bad funding, hastily put together men and bad weather ended with the fleet being sunk somwhere in the North Atlantic.

(- 2 Danish transports)

Maori colony of established in Australia, farming methods improved.

The Maori Confederation using some Chinese help has established a small colony in Western Australia. It is yet to be named properly in a naming cermony, but that with the boost in the Maori economy through the importation of sheep, cows and even horses has led to the Maoris becoming a more unified nation and greatly strengthing the power of the King. However his efforts to gain part of the Chinese Australian colony are rebuffed by China although they do consent to one marriage.

(+ 10% stability, Maori colony in Australia established - 1 regiment from Maori to Maori Australia)

Expansionism and Military matters

Aztecs begin expansion.

The Aztec Emperor has declared the expansion of the Empire must continue. Making moves within his nation to silence ctitics of the close relationship with China, he sacrafices their ringleader to the gold Quetecoatal. The Jaguar Warriors who now lead the more modern army strike northwards and read a major river. It remains to be seen how much more this Empire can expand. Only a few minor skirmishes have been fought so far

(-1 Aztec regiment)

Incans also expand!

The Incan Emperor hearing of the success of the Aztecs in the expansion, feels that he can do one better. He expands northwards capturing land allowing the Incans a coastline, albiet a small one, on the Carribean Sea. They also expand west of the Andes into the Amazon Forrest, however the going is tough and some Amazonian Indians manage an ambush that cause some casutalties.

(-2 Incan regiments)

Ethiopian Empire expands strategically.

The Ethiopian Empire has seen the threat that the Islamic Middle East represents to it, and has sought strategic relations with those nations that could assist it, but at the same time has launched an effort of aggressive expansionism, launching campaigns in three directions. Few skirmishes are fought and it is expected this expansion can continue.

(-1 Ethiopian regiment)

Sweden and Denmark-Norway expands into Lapland.

The Scandinavian countries after the royal wedding in Stockholm that established the Kalmar Alliance then launched a co-ordinated campaign against the Inuits of Lapland, above the arctic circle. They captured much terrain and suffered little casutalties due to the unprepardness of the native populations.

Japanese Samurai takes over Kamachatka

On the success of the Shogun's plans in Serebu, a Japanese rich Samurai in the Shogun's name has captured the southern tip of Kamachatka through his own expense, asking only to be named Lord of the domain. He awaits the Shogun's response, however if he is rebuffed many in the Shogun's circles fear he could go rouge.

(+Japanese gain new province in Kamachatka)

Potugal gradually increases its colonies.

Portugal begins to increase several of its colonies, making the African trade colonies and the Cape Colony itself more profitable. There are calls in Lisbon to also seperate the Tanzanian Coast from the remainder of the colonies in the same fashion of the Cape Colony to allow its further expansion to take place.

Hungary fortifies the Ottoman border.

The Kingdom of Hungary fearing attack from the Ottoman Empire has embarked on an ambitious scheme to fortify the border, so far some earthen rampants and wood forts have been constructed, however this is expected to be expanded and strengthend over coming years.

Swiss expand their army

The Swiss Confederation remaining defiant of the Holy Roman Empire who seeks for it to return has begun a major expansion of the armed forces. This has caused yet more Swiss to flock to the Confederation banner. It is likely any HRE invasion of this mountainous country will be fraught with trouble.

(+2 extra Swiss regiments)

Fez of Morocco begin expansion towards the south.

The Sultan of Fez has ordered the Moroccan army south to capture more of the territory, however the generals decided that the land along the coastline was more important than the land the Sultan thought was best. Land captured is bountiful and has led to an increase in the Moroccan economy, however the Swahbians of the Western Sahara have managed to ambush the Fez troops a few times causing some casualties.

(-2 Fez regiments)

Janissaries cut in half.

The Ottoman Sultan has cut the Janissary in half in a swift and politically calculated move that is designed to modernise the military forces.

Wars

Oman invades Mahri Sultanate. Mahri Army collapses and retreats in disarray.

The Omani Army launched an invasion of the Mahri Sultante after a breakdown in border negotiations resulted in a deadly insult being shown to the Omani Sultan. The superior numerially and qualitatively troops of Oman quickly routed the Mahri army which has since formed a defensive border of their capital. Meanwhile the Mahri Navy is destroyed and their remaining port is blockaded causing their economy to plumment.

Confederation of Mossi conquered by Songhai Empire in quick and brutal campaign.

The Empire of Songhai quickly overran the smaller and less well trained Mossi army, decimating it in a series of three engagments, the last outside the capital of Mossi, Ouagandougou. Once fallen Ouagandougou was destroyed in a frenzy of rape, pillage and general violence. The remaining parts of the Confederation swore fealty to the Songhai Emperor rather than suffer the capital and the army's fate. A lot of the population of the former confederation has been enslaved many to Jolof, and eventually onto to Portugal.

(-3 Songhai regiments, - Confederation of Mossi as an independent nation, + 10% Songhai stabilty)

Franco-Spanish War begins

The Kingdom of France seeing the death of Charles of Spain as a chance to capture some of the territories that surrounded the French nation, struck, first at Spanish Burgundy and then also at the Spanish Netherlands. In Burgundy the Spainish troops were quickly overrun by the numerically superior French troops and some local support, however it was in the Spainish Netherlands that the greatest local support for the invader was seen. Brussels was quickly captured within 3 months, and the French managed to get to the southern banks of the river Rhine before the Spainish troops were able to halt them.

In return Spain launched a hastily assembled invasion of southern France across the Pyrnees. Perhaps not the greatest strategy in the history of warfare, however by the end of the second year of war the Spainish had begun to push the French from their fortifications.

(- 6 Spainish regiments, - 2 Spainish Guns, Spainish Burgundy occupied, Spainish Netherlands 60% occupied, - 9 French regiments, - 3 French Guns, - 3 Spainish Netherlands regiments, - 20% stability in Spainish Netherlands, - 5% stability in Spain - 5% in Spainish Naples.)

Tartar Collapse

'The Tartar menace must be decmiated to the point that it can never be returned' - Tsar Ivan IV

During the early months of 1530 there was talk of the Tartar lands being divided between three powers: Russia, Poland-Lithuania and the Ottoman Empire. However as time wore on distrust between the Polish and Ottoman crowns began to grow and hoped for a cohesive treaty faltered. The Russians launched their invasion along the Volga river, led by Ivan IV himself, and 5 weeks afterwards the Ottoman Empire got word of this and launched theirs.... Poland following soon thereafter.

The Russians first target was Kazan which put up some resistance, however within 9 months the Kazan nation was annexed in its entirety to the Russian Empire. Once on the Volga a famed Russian engineer, Ivan Vyrodkov leads to a revolutionary tactic speeding the Russian armies advance down the Volga river, and leading to yet more Tartar nations falling to the Tsar.
It is through his tactics that the Russian Empire has managed to double its territory in the space of two years.

Further damage was done to the proposed treaty when a local Ssafavid commander with the support of the local poulace captured some of the Caucasus Caspian Sea coastline. Thus spurred on the Ottomans continued past the inteded point of de-marcation, also in an attempt to ensure a great strategic postion when word of the sigining of the Triple Alliance between Austria, Poland-Lithania and Hungary was heard in Constantinople and Zygmunt I's name was cursed for his duplicity by the Grand Vizeir Resid Omar Pasha, steeling the Sultan towards action.

However in homage to the original agreements the Ottoman army has been kind to Russian merchants and has allowed full access to Russia to the port of Avoz. They have however shut all Polish merchants out of the conquered Tartar lands.

With the collapse of the Tartar nations, the Polish have captured the majority of the Ukraine and many remaining Tartars have fled to Polish territory to settle in the Ukraine with Zygmunts permission , Russia has expanded exponetially and now has territory far superior to what it once had, launching it onto the scene of greater nations, and the Ottomans and Persians have extended their border northwards, with the Ottomans finally breaking through to the Caspian Sea to the north. What happens now is largely up to the diplomats and emissaries to the nations involved, and the potential for further bloodshed is ever present.

Two nitpicks.

Firstly, Ferdinand I is the Archduke of Austria, and therefore Holy Roman Emperor, not Albert I, and if Ferdinand died without mention, it would be Maximillian II.

Secondly, I believe Henry VIII is King of England at this point, not Henry III. Otherwise, quite good.

typos and will be fixed.

From the Papal States
I urge you two to seize hostilities towards each other. Why shed fellow Catholic blood when there are still infidels in the east.

Great update. Great indeed. When will stats be updated (nothing on the HRE is updated)?

From: Poland-Lithuania
To: The Holy Roman Empire (Ferdinand I - Austria)

Congratulations on your election. We hope to see great strides to strengthen the bonds between us, and we hope that our relations can remain no matter which member state's duke is crowned emperor.

From: Poland-Lithuania
To: Russia

With the recent events in Tartar lands, we feel it is necessary to push for better relations with our Russian neighbors to the east, and we are willing to make some sacrifices if necessary. If the offer is still on the table, we will be willing to exchange Smolensk and Velikiye Luki for Narva, increasing trade between us, and an alliance.
