Should Prince Harry go to Basra?

It would be a bad idea to send him over there as he's a target and it will increase violence in the area, particularly attacks targeted against our soldiers.

He should have gone into the Navy. Then all theyd have to do is park him offshore, safely away from IEDs and RPGs.

As I mentioned before, Harry is a high value target. If he is at a higher risk of attack, so are the men with which he serves. I'm not saying that should be a reason to bring him home, but it ought to be a consideration which you don't appear willing to make simply because Harry is a member of the Royal Household.

I'd be less concerned about Harry being attacked and more concerned about him appearing blindfolded on State TV or al-Jazeera or something.

How would your Iranian hostage situation ended if the Prince was one of the captured sailors? I would imagine it would have proceeded somewhat differently, to say the least...

No-one has touched on the possibility of the insergents prioritising Harry working in our favor.

If the insergents are over-prioritising a target they are not attacking other targets. If we know what they are tageting they have lost significant initative. The target is of little value in itself. Obviously for the soldiers being presented as a target to draw hostile action it is a rough gig, but these guys are supposed to be the elite. If drawing insurgent action can be translated into a strategic advantage wouldn't the Blues and Royals sign up to the job?

Drawing fire? And then what? This isn't really a conventional battle where the idea is to surround and ambush the insurgency, it's to train Iraqis to secure their own country and leave, while holding off insurgency while that can be done.

Harry should go, but I'm betting they won't let him.

So should Harry be allowed to fight? He clearly wants too. Is the danger of a properganda coup for insergents too great? Does it place the troops under his command at an unfair risk?

Sadly not available on their site, The Observer on sunday had a wonderful quote from a commander of the Mahadi Army about how "the hansome spoilt prince" should reconsider his options, before going on to explain that they were civilised people and would therefore let him return to his grandmother, although lamentably without his ears.

So, should the brass let him fight?

Not only should Prince Harry be allowed to fight, but so should Prince William. This will increase the chances that both will die, leaving fewer heirs to the monarchy and hopefully ending that ridiculous institution once and for all.

It is rediculous that they still continue to obsess these already obsolete royal families let alone caring for their well being.I am in the sense will never understand tiresome traditions.

I'm against the war and against the monarchy. Maybe if he gets himself killed over there people will start asking questions about both. But it's not that I want that, nobody has to die.

Even if he feels like he has the duty to defend his country, you can hardly call that defending.

He should be FORCED to go. Lead by example, isn't that what they say?

I love the way the extremists are already making threats against him. Clearly they think we all love the royals - a common mistake made by foreigners.

If he does get captured, then I hope our government will refuse to cave into their demands, like they would if it was someone else's child. If there's even a hint of special treatment, there will be an outcry from the families of other soldiers/hostages.

It hits the headlines though, which is what counts. They would get a great satisfaction killing a prince, as opposed to anyone else.

He's not worth any more than any other soldier in Iraq but people would target him, it would cause more attacks on the group he is in, almost certainly leading to more deaths.

look at the lies US army fabricate just for the death of Tillman. Wouldnt it be a worse embarrassment for the UK army if Harry was capture ?? What if he pee when threatened or Shriek like a little girl?

"It shifted the focus from the grotesque torture at Abu Ghraib [jail] and a downward spiral of an illegal act of aggression to a great American who died a hero's death.

"We believe this narrative was intended to deceive the family but more importantly the American public."

US army officials withheld information about the death of NFL star turned soldier Pat Tillman, a US military investigation has reportedly found.

Some ppl are more equal than the others. I very doubt that the will allow Harry to go to iraq and even if he did. He will be surely put in a very safe environment.

Harry is going now.
