Sid Meier's Civilization VI announced!

Surprising news.
I won't buy it pre-release or on release like I did with V as I learned my lesson.
Will wait a few weeks/months to see how it turns out especially with a 80$ price tag!

I'm really not a fan of the cartoony art style.

I have no qualms with the new game looking like Clash of Clans, but I am somewhat disappointed that the architecture and unit design aren't fully age and civ appropriate; they still haven't fixed this issue.

Ahahahahahahaa!!! They did it! They did it! They're using the map!!!!!

You have no idea how happy this makes me. By linking city development, diplomacy, and even research development to the map, you're solving a slew of issues Civ has had with information display and how active games get. Ohhhh, I am jumpin', I am jumpin'.

Nice news. Stellaris, HoI4 and Civ6 all in one year, good times.

The screenshots are a bit cartoony for my tastes but until we see it in action who knows?

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Been waiting for an announcement since quite some time. Graphics do look cartoony, but maybe that just means they've spent less time on the terrain artwork and more time on balancing and making the game more fun :D

Most likely being released in alpha state, I wonder how broken this will be on release?

What? Someone had to say it.

Let's keep our fingers crossed

You see cartoony, I see a game that will actually load in less than ten minutes.

I had hoped to see the map graphics updated to something similar to R2TW, but this is... what?

The trees look like in Warcraft 3...on another note: I am kind of hard now from these news

One thing as nothing to do with the other.

Upgrade your computer.
Mine is 5 years old and I load all my games in under a minute

We're talking about a 2010 release that loaded much slower compared to Civ 4's base game in 2005.

2 favorite parts:
“Let’s take masonry. In order to do masonry well you need the type of materials to put together for walls or pyramids or whatever,” Beach says. “So if you’re in the middle of a grassland and there’s no stone around, it’s going to be tough for you to be really good at masonry. So if you can find a resource like that, like a quarry, as soon as it’s up and operational, we unlock a boost toward masonry, which will give you 50 percent of the cost for that technology. Similarly, this will work for say maritime technology for setting up on the coast. If you’re on the coast putting in the time on those areas, you’re now getting bonuses for those technologies. That part of the tech tree will naturally unlock for you as a result of the boost.”

Looks like Civ6 will implement the idea of resources boosting research which was one of my favorite ideas.

“Every leader is assigned one historical agenda based on something they did while ruling their nation in actual history,” Beach explains. “Let’s take a leader who built a whole bunch of wonders. In our universe, that leader is going to feel like he’s better than anyone else in world history at building wonders, and that should be reflected every time they are in a Civilization game. Wonder obsessed. So that civilization will get a bonus toward building wonders, but they also get an obsessive personality where he will get angry if anyone else is building more wonders than they are. So you might have a strategy where you always go for Stonehenge and Hanging Gardens so you grab those right away. If this guy is next to you and he sees you doing this, he’s going to be up in arms and invading your borders."

Leaders will also have a hidden agenda that will be assigned to them that will change from game to game, so even if you know the opposing leader's core personality, you have to discover additional, dynamic traits if you want your political agendas to progress smoothly.

This sounds intriguing. I wonder if this is a progression from Rising Tide's diplo traits system.

I am just happy they kept the hexes!
PC only for now. Just as well, that helps me temper my expectations!
Can anyone tell the difference in content between the $60 and $80 “Digital Deluxe” versions?

I am wondering about the 'access to four post-launch DLC packs'. Hopefully that $20 bump in price provides a better deal on the DLC than a $20 OST. Seems more like the "season pass" other games are doing vs. a discounted price on DLC.

I am not sure if you guys have noticed, but now building on the coast is not necessary in order to have a harbour / water buildings. This will help my OCD a lot where I wouldnt build a city on an obvious good tile cause it is one tile away from the coast

Whoa so excited for this! Wasn't expecting an announcement before E3, and it literally made me jump off my seat!

I'm a bit disappointed by the style though... Specially when you see what the guys at Creative Assembly are doing on their campaign map for Total War: Wharammer... I love cartoony style but I think this just looks cheap and a bit outdated (or just mobile-quality), and I think with the time that Civ 6 must have been in production, and the talent they've got at Firaxis, they could have done a bit more than this... Cartoony style in Age Of Empires Online was absolutely amazing, and it still had weathering and atmospheric effects, but this?... Feels like they could have added a bit more life than this....

But I'm hoping the gameplay will be absolutely amazing, and that they will soon reveal that MODDING will be a big part of this game! (one can only hope...)

Hurrah for Civ 6!
