SimCity 5

SimCity 4 is still pretty cool, plus it's moddable too, the only SimCity that you could mod beyond just graphic replacements.

After a disappointment with Societies and the micromanaging nightmare of 4. I just hope they return back to the mechanics of SC3k where I did not have to go to each flipping power plant to micro manage them. Oh and traffic should be improved as well and certan classes of sims aren't picky about using mass transit.

I respectfully disagree with SimCity 4's micromangment (though I do agree that Societies is an abomination of a SimCity game that shouldn't be seriously discussed in any SimCity forum, ever), I do like how SimCity 4 looked (not childish and colorful, more of a realistic palate in every building, though you might want to get the Nite 'n Day mod for more visually realistic goodness), and if you are browning out in your cities, it just means you need to build more power plants. I agree that traffic should be improved (you can also get NAM mod that improves traffic a whole 30%), and you should be able to follow a single sim from home to work (which is what SimCity World (my code-name for SimCity 5) had done with their Glass Box engine), and not have sims disappear randomly between trips.

EA has posted a second video, ditching "5" and just calling it SimCity. In it, developer shows how to build an initial small city. They've taken away water pipes, which now run underneath the roads regardless, but they've added sewage, which I'm excited by.

One thing I'm concerned about is the zoning: it looks like you plop down standard-size lots instead of customizing zones. I like mixing my zones up, but the only industrial lots I saw him put down were huge ones.

I wish newer EA games didn't all be a small experiment in figuring out how to get more cash from consumers. I know, the guys at EA are really eager to get to a system where the users intravenously feeds their Vampire headquarters some of that precious plasma, but they could at least be a little subtle about it.

They dropped the 5 a while back and this video is from early October :p I'm really looking forward not being able to play on larger maps and when I lack an internet conenction too.

It's too late to claim I'm still on the old Russian calendar, isn't it? :p

I'm not going to lie, I like the way that video looked. The new zoning is interesting I must say, seems like it will require a bit more pre-planning in terms of roads and such.

As long as EA doesn't screw this up any further, I might actually get this.

EDIT: There's still zoning Iggy, so I don't think it's entirely City-Life esque plopping.

Although it kind of seems that way since its a lot smaller compared to 4.

I have my doubts that they won't let it loose on Steam.

If they force Origin on it then that might sway me from buying it as well.

Really?

I have terrible memory

blech

blechhhhh

I really want a new Sim City

but I really don't want Origin

god EA

you suck

Know what? SimCity is a nerdgame, and its good that way. If only the devs would accept that fact. Every problem with the SC5 plans comes from there: trying to make a nerd game mainstreamish.

Small Citys: The reason for small citys is that a) all the shiny gimmicks eat system power like there was no tomorrow b) onine is hip and online causes traffic, large citys -> more traffic, needs more servers, expencive, bad

Childish design: everything is colourfull and funny but thats . Citys are greay, brown, some green here and there. The new SC5 looks all shiny happy funny kindergartenish. Because funny colours are great! :(

No zoning levels: Casual gamers allways want big and mighty, and never clever, boring but usefull. SO lets just cut all the stuff that allows real gamers to make real plans. just cut it. only nerds need it anyway.

No modding and no Terraforming: Sure, if you want everyone to play together everyone needs to follow the same rules and play the same game. Its like forcing Garry Kasparov, Michael Jordan and Pelé to decide for only one game but who cares...

And know whats worse? after this one fails the devs will say they did theire best but the genre is dead.

Irony like a crowbar

Hmm so there's this

Good news: If you want to download SimCity somewhere other than Origin, you'll have the option to do so. An EA representative confirmed with Joystiq that the title would be available for purchase on other digital distribution platforms, though a list of stores has yet to be finalized. SimCity is arriving sometime in 2013.
