How to shot missile?

In other words, I'd like to cook lobster in a way that doesn't require too much work. Because, A., I'm lazy, and B., I'm no cook.

Do lobsters get boiled alive these days or is the jury still out when it comes to animal cruelty and whatnot?

(offtopic, sorry, just wondering since Cutlass ended the thread so quick :) )

I can honestly say that I have never heard of any other method of cooking lobster. :p Perhaps someone else has?

I question exactly how tasty said method would render lobster.

Only one way to find out..

Can't say I've ever cooked lobster before, but boiling water is traditionally the way to go. Salt water is preferable I would think...

You can chuck some onions/shallots or herbs into the pan... bay leaves, parsley, maybe some cellery... I don't know, but that's how I'd do it off the top of my head.

My mom says one time she got chased around a kitchen by a lobster. She had to climb onto a chair. Since then shes never eaten it.

Revenge of the Lobsters would be an interesting title for a movie.

My mum tells a similar story... well, she didn't get chased but she couldn't chuck it in the pan whilst it was twitching its whiskers at her. She hasn't touched lobster since either :)

Step 1: Obtain Lobster
Step 2: Obtain Flamethrower
Step 3: Use Flamethrower on Lobster
Step 4: ???
Step 5: PROFIT!!!

Boiling lobster is one of the most common ways of cooking them, will still taste just fine. Lets be realistic though, lobster is simply a garlic butter delivery system.

They do tend to scream when you put them in the water though....

Best lobster cooking method is splitting and then broiling the tails in the oven. All the meat comes out and is much much tastier. Go to Red Lobster and order some broiled tails, you'll see what i mean.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, screaming isn't really screaming. Lobsters have no vocal cords nor any other means of vocalization. The screaming sound is either stream escaping from their shells or boiling water being forced in... I can't recall which.

Lobsters are dumb, really dumb. They're ocean floor cockroaches and not a lick smarter. It's impossible to really know if a lobster feels pain when boiled, but given other tests, they don't seem to feel pain in any noteworthy sense. Certainly boiling a lobster alive is a lot less cruel than what we do to fish, chicken and mammals.

Though I don't eat them, I find them revolting to look at.

I have a book that says lobsters feel pain. It also gave very technical description of how they copulate.

Lobster porn? Nice. Nice.

I can't eat anything that looks so insectile. Plus, I don't like seafood. But in my vast culinary knowledge, I believe "boil in water" to be the correct answer.

Define pain. It doesn't mean the same thing to you and a lobster and doesn't even mean the same thing to you and an average male. I'm sure lobsters feel something but we're anthropomorphizing when we say aversion to X is pain or fear or whatnot.

They also die almost instantly when they go into boiling water. So its not really a cruel way to kill them.

There werent any pictures. I think they gave description of the anatomy and where the anatomy goes and stuff. Only specific thing I remember is that the male lobster uses its feelers to arouse the female and then they do it in the "missionary" position.

What?? Then what was the point??

Well, of course. I use my feelers to arouse the females as well. How else could you compel them to open their chitinous exoskeletons?

But missionary? Really? That seems impractical; a female lobster goes on her back? How does she get back up? I'd look it up myself but I really don't want to Google "lobster sex, missionary" from work.
