A Brief History of Castile Part Four
The Old Forts of Castile
652 A.D. - 852 A.D.

Story
Spoiler :
Long ago, in a time where the Umayyad Caliphate never even existed and where Catholics ruled al-Andalus, there were the Old Forts of Castile. Today only two of them still remain. And those two were only recently made. The others still remain, but abandoned, bandits creeping inside, lurking through the giant doors. They were once the guardians of these great lands, but no more. Some say if they were rebuilt, they could make Castile almost impossible to break through. But those are just dreams of a distant future.

The forts were built around 652 A.D., by King John Goodwill. The first Fort was, of course, Fort Goodwill. The Fort was the biggest in al-Andalus, and King Goodwill ordered more major Forts to be built. By 694 A.D. more than 7 major forts guarded the land, and no one troubled Castile. Until 722 A.D. the Forts were never troubled, but rumours were spread of an Islamic invasion. The King at that time, King Turdoz, who made the Capital after him, immediately ordered the Forts to be organized. But his efforts were of no good. The Umayyad Caliphate swept the lands, and no one stood a chance. By 723 A.D. Castile was taken, and the Forts were abandoned. Over time, the Sultans renamed some of the abandoned Forts, but never tried to restore them. Ubair al-Rashied started to, but died of old age.

Some of the great Forts include: The South Western Watch, Ahmads Reach, Fort Goodwill, Barcelona’s Keep, Fort al-Thur, Fort Phillip, Fort Joseph and the Twin Towers. Only Joseph and Phillip remain, built by Mikaeel al-Rashied in 782 A.D. Fort Joseph is the biggest in Castile and guards the great city of Burgos, once the Capital of Castile. Ahmads Reach is in up in the mountains of Castile, which is why it is called Ahmads reach. Ahmad Shaik, a guardian of the Umayyad Caliphate, took a great trek up the mountain, and established what is sometimes called the Eye of Castile, for whoever lives there can see everything in Castile.
In times like these, the public beg of the Sultan to restore the great Forts, so as no invasion can take over these once great lands. The Forts are 200 years old, but they are still one of the greatest ever built. Some doubt that the Sultan will rebuild them, because of their Christian background. But in times like these, even the Sultan must over look religion to do what is best for his people.

Would you really take them at their word? Look, we just got out of a bloody war. Our forces have been heavily reduced, and now we are being raided by Vandals and strange Vikings alike. Do we look like we are in a position to be threatening the core state of one of the upcoming superpowers? Armenia may be our Orthodox brothers, but it seems like they are unable to keep their lying mouth shut.
Duh.

to Tatars:
Well spoken for a barbarian tribe who goes on living by ransacking civilizations. May god smith you. Oh wait, my mistake. Not may. God will smith you heathen pig.

Awesome map! I approve.

Ah... the time of Visigothic spain. *nostalgia* My forefathers are all deliciously bloodthirsty, good Christians.

There are also mountains on the north coast, detaching the Basques from the rest of Spain.

-That's why you do research. ;)

Yeah I did do research....after I made the map. It was 12am so i was too tired to do it over again. Oh well.

Amon and Mickzter, your stats should be fixed.

Now it's time to read those 12-13 pages since the update and try to make a mental list of what the heck happened.

I should still have 3 more irregular companies. I spent 3 EP on irregulars, thus I should have had 9 companies. take away the 4 from casualties and I would have 5. I further disagree with the casualties. I lost a horseman company in what battle? My horsemen were storming walls in Epir? That's foolish.

A Brief History of Castile Part Five
Zaheer Riaad Solomon
699 A.D. – 731 A.D.

Story

Spoiler :
Zaheer Riaad Solomon is a household name in Castile. Every single person living, whether 9 or 90, knows of Zaheer Solomon. In homes, his name appears on frames, in trade centre’s there are statues of him and in the Palace of the Sultan he has a memorial in the Hall of Heroes. The capital, Solomon, is named after him. Even the Sultan respects him more than anything else. People call him the Godfather of Castile. It is no surprise; after all he saved Mikaeel al-Rashied’s life. His story is one of legends.

Born in Toledo in 699 A.D., Solomon lived in a wealthy family. His father was the owner of the cities bank, and he grew up privileged. He became a solider at the age of 16, and joined the Umayyad Caliphate at the age of 18. Apparently he was very talented. Many officers record once that he took 5 people at once during a battle. He had excellent sword skills, matched with his urban combat. If he didn’t have a sword, he could still kill you. At the age of 23, he met a man 2 years younger than himself. This man told Solomon of his dream to be a king. Solomon told this man, that he should chase his dream, because it was very possible. This man’s name was Mikaeel al-Rashied. The two became very close friends, and went through countless battles together.

When Solomon was 31, it was clear that Mikaeel would become king. Solomon swore to protect his Sultan, no matter what. During the invasion of Rankton, Mikaeel was surrounded by 6 bandits. Mikaeel managed to kill 2 of them but the other 4 closed in on him. Solomon rushed forward, without a sword, and single handily killed the 4 of them. However, one of them survived, and came behind Solomon and stabbed him in the neck. Mikaeel quickly stabbed the man the chest, and repeatedly stabbed the man. Some say it was 27 times.

Mikaeel made Solomon the new capital and his middle name in his honour. He is seen as the national hero and Castile’s real father.
