The One and Only

A Brief History of Castile Part Four
The Old Forts of Castile
652 A.D. - 852 A.D.

Story
Spoiler :
Long ago, in a time where the Umayyad Caliphate never even existed and where Catholics ruled al-Andalus, there were the Old Forts of Castile. Today only two of them still remain. And those two were only recently made. The others still remain, but abandoned, bandits creeping inside, lurking through the giant doors. They were once the guardians of these great lands, but no more. Some say if they were rebuilt, they could make Castile almost impossible to break through. But those are just dreams of a distant future.
The forts were built around 652 A.D., by King John Goodwill. The first Fort was, of course, Fort Goodwill. The Fort was the biggest in al-Andalus, and King Goodwill ordered more major Forts to be built. By 694 A.D. more than 7 major forts guarded the land, and no one troubled Castile. Until 722 A.D. the Forts were never troubled, but rumours were spread of an Islamic invasion. The King at that time, King Turdoz, who made the Capital after him, immediately ordered the Forts to be organized. But his efforts were of no good. The Umayyad Caliphate swept the lands, and no one stood a chance. By 723 A.D. Castile was taken, and the Forts were abandoned. Over time, the Sultans renamed some of the abandoned Forts, but never tried to restore them. Ubair al-Rashied started to, but died of old age.
Some of the great Forts include: The South Western Watch, Ahmads Reach, Fort Goodwill, Barcelonas Keep, Fort al-Thur, Fort Phillip, Fort Joseph and the Twin Towers. Only Joseph and Phillip remain, built by Mikaeel al-Rashied in 782 A.D. Fort Joseph is the biggest in Castile and guards the great city of Burgos, once the Capital of Castile. Ahmads Reach is in up in the mountains of Castile, which is why it is called Ahmads reach. Ahmad Shaik, a guardian of the Umayyad Caliphate, took a great trek up the mountain, and established what is sometimes called the Eye of Castile, for whoever lives there can see everything in Castile.
In times like these, the public beg of the Sultan to restore the great Forts, so as no invasion can take over these once great lands. The Forts are 200 years old, but they are still one of the greatest ever built. Some doubt that the Sultan will rebuild them, because of their Christian background. But in times like these, even the Sultan must over look religion to do what is best for his people.
