SKNES: Architecture of Aggression

The Council of Sicily met immediately. The red streak was seen by all, and they knew it must have been a sign. But of what, that was the question. Debate rang through the hall as different priests put forth different ideas. Some priests said that it was a mark of approval, that the cross in the sky showed God was pleased with Sicily's direction. Some others, fewer, said the sign did not look like a cross, and was rather the wounds of the countless Christians killed in this war. They urged for immediate peace. And a few said God was angry with the Council, though their view was quickly drowned out.

The Council lasted the entire night, and a conclusion was finally reached by most of the priests. The decision was made. The bloody mark in the sky was the blood of the thousands of Christians who had perished in this pointless war. Peace with the Holy Roman Empire must be reached.

Sorry, I might have to drop out of this SK. I'm having trouble keeping track of what's going on.

A comet is never a good sign

"my father. The people are worried, they await the meaning of the bleeding skies. "
"I know my son. I have been reading the bible and awaiting the lord to give me the meaning. "
"what could that mean? Is god angry with us? Is he encouraging us?"
"it is never so simple my son. The lord works in mysterious ways. Others may see this as a sign of anger or fighting, but right now it seems only one thing. "
"yes my father? What is the meaning than?"
"what direction was the comet moving?"
"it was crossing east to west in the northern part of the sky"
"and it the color?"
"red my father"
"the peace with the northern pagans will not last long. There is an abundance of treachery in the ways of pagans and heathens. They will come to attack the Franks soon again. "
"is that good or bad?"
"neither my son. God is warning us that the enemy is coming back soon from the north, not only from west, east and south. "
"so that is an helping hand from god"
"yes. Get the scroll, I will address the people"

My dear followers of Christ. The only true god. You have all seen the great sign in the skies. You are all worried from it, yet god is with us. No harm will be done upon our people. That is a sign indeed, but not for our doom, but a warning for us. We must stand and fight in the name of the lord and his son, or else we will all be destroyed. That is a sign that wars never truly end. It is a sign for the emperor to keep his back well protected as he fights the heathens and pagan. It is a sign that we all must join this war and fight as hard as our faith is great. All will be well my flock. All will be well.

Developments in the naval technology of Venice
Following the attack on the Venetian Arsenal, new security measures have been installed. First, at both the Venetian Arsenal and the Golden Port, gates block the entrances, and only those who have passes may enter after a search of the cargo being brought in. Secondly, anyone who wishes to be able to enter must have a pass, which states the person's name, business, nationality, and has a unique counter-counterfeiting measure- the passes are numbered, and a list is kept of the numbers having been given out.
Finally, the most important invention is a re-invention-the corvus (Latin for crow). The corvus is a long and wide wooden plank with either hooks or a spike (the latter being the way the corvus got its name) used for boarding. The one with hooks is used for peaceful ship boardings, whether it be searches of cargo or transfers between ships, as it holds the two boats together and can be easily removed. The spiked version is for Military use, as it serves the same purpose, but is used for the Marinas regiments to board the enemy ships and potentially capture instead of destroy. This invention has led to new inter-ship fighting styles, and gives the Marinas a new edge in naval warfare.

Oh, I took over Venice while nobody was looking in Update 3? Good to know! (You accidentally put me as the player for the story "Murus de Italia", Terrance. ;) )

Yep. You can easily join as an NPC, and I can't remember if there's any open land. Thuringia and Pisa would allow you to join the Holy Roman Empire, just so you know. By the way, haven't I seen you in the Civ4 S&T threads? ;)

Whatever is left of Castile after the Update will be NPC'd...if you want to join Iberia
Heads up I am Badajoz after update

I'd personally recommend one of the Middle Eastern nations, since with Hormuz dropping out, the only players there will be the Zengid Emirate. And the Caucasian nations, I guess. Not to mention the Guptas seem to be introducing some veeeery interesting elements in that area.
