slow tech development

I like ancient times more than modern times. I know it's weird, but that's me...

Does anyone know a way of fixing all civs science investment at 10%, without possibility of change? That would slow tech development, allowing more turns in ancient times. With the side effect of increasing treasuries, allowing bigger armies... Yay!

While I'm here, does anyone know a way of changing the starting year? Instead of playing from 4000 BC to 2000 AD (or whatever), I'd prefer playing from 6000 BC to 0 AD.

Thanks.

I dont think you can limit tech spending to 10%, but you could put the minimum turns for researching very high so as to take away the ability to speed research by increasing the tech rate.

Another edit you might want to make is to mark wealth as one of the AI strategies so that perhaps they will make the accumulation of wealth a higher priority.

If you want huge armies, lower the cost of building them and adjust the number of free armies allowed on the edit screens. Current setting make it somewhat costly to have large numbers of units.

You may also want to adjust improvements and wonders that increase the research rate or otherwise affect research, such as the library, university, Great Library, Theory of Evolution, etc.

No way to change the starting year or the gaps that I am aware of.

In answer to my own question, it's possible to limit the investment in science. By editing goverments, set Rate Cap to 1 to all government types. This will limit all governments investment in science to 10%. One can even be generous and allow democracy a 20% investment rate. :D

By the way, if someone can help me with the problem I posted in technical support, I'd be free to work on my own mods...

Cheers,

I already found that out in the meantime... Talk about major disappointment... :p But thanks anyway! :goodjob:
