This always reminds me of the Ancients Tournaments at miniatures war gaming conventions: the WRG (Wargames Research Group) rules allowed any army from ancient Egypt to end of the Medieval period men-at-arms and pikemen to be modeled, so the match-ups tended to seriously stretch credibility. My favorite memory is of a Finals match in one tournament decades ago between an army of massed Incan slingers without armor or any metal weapons against an army of Teutonic Knights in head to foot plate armor with crossbows in support. The Incans won of course . . .
One thing I am confused by: does a leader necessarily have to have a civilization that pairs with it and vice-versa? For example, since we have Machiavelli as a leader, does this mean we’re getting an Italian civ soon, in the main game or the DLC? What about the Mississippians, since we don’t know any known evidence for prominent leaders of Cahokia?

They told there is no necessity for it. Based on the Mix and Match model for the Civs and Leaders, the Leader-less Civ and the Civ-less Leader both are completely okay.
Hawaiian armed with sharktooth swords? How good it is?
And the same sharktooth sword also found its way to Cahokia ruins. long before any whitemen ever ventured there.
There's a news article about how the game is going to look on Playstation and other consoles. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54167269055_a05b946674_h.jpg I think it's our first look at "radial menu" for those who intend to play with controller. Unclear if it will be available on PC, but I imagine it'd enhance accessibility.
Spoiler:
Other curiosities include Tomb of Askia's quote which is from the Quran and the haptic feedback on the Dualsense controller: "When you declare war, you’ll feel a pulsing pattern akin to a war horn’s call; when you found a new city, hammer-like thuds mimic the classic building sound effect. There are more effects to discover on your own, and we hope they add that little bit of extra immersion to each turn. If you’d prefer to play without the haptic feedback, they’re easily disabled via the game settings!"
And I'm still grumpy about the city banners and the small unit icons on the map.

It makes sense to include it for people that play on PC with gamepads. If it already exists, there's hardly a downside to that.
I'm always fascinated to see games that I think I have very clear idea of controls of with a completely different approach. E.g., Age of Mythology, Crusader Kings or Anno on consoles.

"When you declare a war that is just in his eyes, Allah's mighty power will cause your hands to shake as if the horns of armies are bellowing within them."

I had a dream last night that I turned on my computer and civ 7 was available to play. However when I started playing I could not understand the language in the UI and everything was that huge old windows dialog box style.
Strangely enough, in spite of my well documented activity on this and paradoxplaza forums, I have never had a dream about any strategy game
I did dream recently about playing Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets, however, the greatest game of my 3rd grade, since apparently this game had more profound impact on my brain and its more relevant for my state of subconscious today

That can happen with some game writer's idea of English as well. The old Wargames Research Group miniatures rules were notorious for having sentences that you entered with a linguistic machete to hack your way through thickets of verbiage and, hopefully, come out at the end of the sentence with some bit of meaning clutched in your teeth.
