Small Observations General Thread (things not worth separate threads)

A paved area with an equestrian statue. So, a City Square?
Trafalgar Square, maybe? Apparently there are other squares with same name in other cities besides London.

The Statue of Lord Nelson isn't equestrian and is on a quite tall plinth.

This must be the tier 1 heavy naval unit

Thought maybe that was the Equestrian statue of Charles I in the square. But Royal Exchange does seem more likely.
Good call. That's probably the statue of Wellington
The irony of playing as Napoleon potentially leading Great Britain is he'd have to eventually have it.

Carthage numidian horsemen.PNG

I noticed that Carthage has Numidian Horsemen in addition to their Biremes. No Unique Merchant, I guess.

That's unfortunate. A War elephant unit would have let Numidia be in the roster of playable civilizations. Biremes aren't seen in the sneak peek, though. Only regular Galleys and Quadriremes are there, so we don't know for sure what the second unique unit will be. If I had to guess, either the African War Elephant Unique Military Unit, or the Bireme as a Unique Civilian Naval Trade Unit.

I wonder if Carthage, supposed to mirror Venice, is prohibited from recruiting land units and instead has to hire Mercenaries / Levy troops. Which can then be made to look like Numidians.

Ugh. I don't really want Carthage to be "Hannibal's One Trip Over The Alps - The Civ".

ANother small question I couldn't find the answers in the videos I watched:

About levied unit from city states: when you buy them, where do they pop up? Next to the city state, in your closest settlement?

I ask this because of Machiavel. Since he can leviy troops from city states he is not the suzerain, if the unit get created next to the city state you could buy several units and attack the city state (considering you are at war with its suzerain).

Another use would be buying fleets to catch an isolated treasure vessel. If the levied unit spawns next to the city state, you could catch unsuspecting ennemies and snatch the vessel. This would be even more true for Machiavel...

However if the levied unit pops in the closest settlement, like the civilized barbs from CIV6 module, it might allow to get readilly useable unit to defend from an ennemy attack (again, from a suprising front).

I have yet to see a video where the player do levy units from city states. And I totaly understand why, since influence is harder to get than gold....

Do we know what the settlement growth formula is? i.e. how much food is needed to sustain and grow pop, and what modifies the formula, e.g. how much does current settlement pop adjust food needed for the next pop

Apparently Food is not need for pop only specialists (Rural pop effectively feed themselves, Specialists have a food* maintenance)
You can get bonuses to food* for maintenance
the excess then apparently is either used for Growth (with modifiers) or sent to cities (from towns with a specialty)

Also the "settlement pop" number displayed seems to include both population(Rural tiles+Specialists that come from food) and either # of buildings or # of Urban districts

*and happy
