Sons of Mars (Redux)

ooc: We're in the 16th not the 21st centuries derp derp. War is not seen as illegitimate in this period, but rather as an extension of ordinary statecraft. Likewise its a very simple matter of a Palatinate intervention invoking the allied status of the Holy See and Prussia (since it would not be acting on a dp, alliance or client/vassal arrangement with Brandenburg) thus obliging us to intervene.

Not to mention both Brandenburg and the Palatinate are protestant.

pretty sure even in the 16th century, war wasn't the preferred option. especially not wars because a nation felt like it.

Religiously motivated wars don't become non-kosher for another century if memory serves... :p

Brandenburg isnt even protestant yet, because the palatiniate didn't respond yet. so its a catholic VS catholic nation.

OOC: Uh, war pretty much was THE option. Even demanding territory or whatever "diplomatically" (i.e., through marital ties) was largely dependent on how much military strength you had at your disposal and whether or not you'd be able to use it.

EDIT: Also, Brandenburg in-game is Lutheran.

I think the moderator knows what religion nations are :p, and indeed as our token Irishman has noted, Brandenburg is Lutheran. So Prussia has the fig-leaf of religious war even if its actual reason is more prosaic, such as territorial ambitions or ensuring a more favourable geostrategic position.

My problem isn't that Jeho is joining Tyo's war, it's that he's acting like there is actually a casus belli (Tyo should clearly get -2 stab) and the Palatinate is SCUMMITY SCUM SCUM for trying to defend themselves.

Firstly no one has declared war or attacked the Palatinate, Tyo is targeting Brandenburg which is an unaligned (no alliances, pacts or suzerain powers involved) NPC nation, to say he is attacking the Palatinate (and that they are thus defending themselves) is therefore innacurate.

Secondly I am not at the present joining Tyo, merely saying I will support him IF the Palatinate intervenes on the side of Brandenburg against Prussia, ergo if the Palatinate does not intervene there will be no papal (and company) war against them and Europe will continue for the time being to exist more or less in tune with the current status quo. If they do join the fray against Prussia, than I will be obliged to consequentially to join the war.

Thirdly, the defence and propagation of the one true faith is a perfectly valid 16th century cassus belli :p, although I suspect due to various reasons that other ulterior motives and factors are the primary reason why Brandenburg was the target.

Why is everyone acting like I'm declaring war on Tyo?

The Palatine confirms that it has no interest in conflict with the nation of Prussia.

Edit: Wait, Tyo is invading one of my allies? That changes everything...

The Palatine Will of course stand by its allies in Brandenburg and offer any military assistance necessary. Solidarity between brothers of the reformation is all that is keeping us from being placed under the yoke of papal oppression.

The Palatine declares was on Prussia

OOC: Tyo took Religious Ideas and unlocked Deus Vult, so he has a permanent CB against neighboring heathens and heretics :p.

Brandenburg is technically NOT allied with the Palatinate prior to this turn, but it is open to client status and will convert to Calvinism in exchange for support.

Robert Can't's Visitor Message seems to confirm that the Palatinate is backing Brandenburg; Brandenburg is henceforth a Palatine client. Delaying the lock another 24 hours so people can change their orders in light of the new diplomatic climate, however. Let the backstabbings and sneak attacks and etc. begin!

Austria declares war on the Palatinate and Brandenburg.

Bavaria declares war on the Palatinate and Brandenburg.

Burgundy declares war on Austria, Bavaria, Prussia, and the Papal States.

Hesse declares war on Austria, Bavaria, Prussia, and the Papal States.

Other allied and client powers remain neutral at present, waiting for a call to arms...

the Kingdom of Cyprus will also not intervene in this conflict. but hopes the protestants can bloody up the Catholics a little.

We are disappointed that Hesse and Burgundy have seen fit to aggressively, despite no declaration of war from the Papacy or its clients being submitted thus far against the Palatinate or any protestant power, declare war on us. Needless to say we shall defend ourselves and our clients from this aggression in the appropriate manner.

The United Kingdoms of Alexandria and Jerusalem shall honour its alliance with the Papacy.

The Holy See thanks the United Kingdoms of Alexandria and Jerusalem for its fidelity.

Sorry about my inactiveness.
I was very sick which has doubled my current workload. which means I have to cut some of thet hings that take up attention. I'm sorry to say this is one of them.
