Sons of Mars (Redux)

Savoy has signed a non-aggression pact with the Papal States, with the proviso it will not only avoid direct war with the Papacy, but shall not honor any alliance that would require it to fight the Papal States.

Kongo has announced it shall be converting to Lutheranism for the sum of 40 gold.

It would be premature for the King of Kongo to accept any offer, when others may yet be made which are superior.

It is interesting to observe that your league has aligned itself with the muslims, who for near a thousand years have been the enemies of Christians in their eternal jihad against Christ and his faithful from Iberia in the west to far Persia in the east.

To: Temne and Mende

From: The Holy See

We welcome the conversion of Temne and Mende to the One True Faith, which you have embraced in response to the reality that muslim expansion has, in Temne, been a clear front for territorial aggression. Indeed the coercion placed upon Oyo and Denkyira only shows the truth of said statement. At any rate, although we did not ask for clientage, nor provide any compulsion for Temne and Mende to become so, we too welcome that and accept it, while also acknowledging the Songhai's territorial sphere of influence amongst the Muslim states of North Africa, and as they requested of us a legitimate colonial sphere in South America, although naturally aggression on the part of Songhai would nullify any such respectful differentiation of spheres.

There was no mention of Temne and Mende in any agreement because it was assumed that they were already mine. They were African pagans, a religion so vile that every state following it has, over the past year, sought salvation in one form or another. Therefore, any claims they had to legitimacy is clearly forfeit. As Oyo and Denkyira have embraced Allah (and Kongo the more peaceful incantation of your god), they have proven that they are, in fact, humans, but before that, we were unsure. Any expansion into the lands of monsters is surely considered rightful. Furthermore, I have not expressed a desire, indirect or otherwise, to forcibly convert any one kingdom. To draw a parallel, I have no desire to wage war upon the Shah in order to get him to renounce his heresy, but you are at war with the Palatinate in what is essentially a battle over dogma.

You are the most vile of hypocrites I have ever crossed.

What is more interesting is trying to get Lutherans and Muslims to fight, wasting lives and time, while you plot to destroy both parties. Your schemes are transparent, and you should abandon this folly.

Given the special relationship between the Kongo and the Atlantic Confederacy, as well as the generous size of the offer, Kongo feels that the current offer is more than adequate.

Aligning with fellow Christians is not enough to preserve the Lutheran League's independence. The balance of power is clearly tilted towards the Catholic League, and so alliances with those outside the faith will go a long way towards preserving Protestantism.

The war in Europe as noted is entirely due to the intransigent involvement of the Palatinate in war against Prussia, which invoked our alliance with them, and has at its origins little to do with their manifest and unrepentant heresy.

Likewise, we did not say you attempted to forcibly convert any one Kingdom, rather that your campaign of conversion by your actions in occupying a province of Temne appears to be little more than a front for territorial advancement, something your insinuations of conflict with Oyo and Dyenkira only reinforce, and which the Ottomans war against Hedjaz show is not beyond the ordinary behaviour of muslim Empires.

As to your assertion that we are attempting to forment war between Islam and the Lutherans, that notion is clearly absurd. We merely stated our disappointment that they have chosen to shackle themselves to the Ummah, which has ever been the enemy of Christianity, and who's own prophet calls for his followers to by the sword spread the faith he preached.

It is better to be honest about your intent than to hide behind the names of peace and brotherhood while attempting to forcibly convert everyone yourselves. Your interpretation of Jesus would be disappointed by your actions. Furthermore, I have no intent on declaring war upon my new allies in order to convert them. I am confident they will see the Light of Allah eventually. It is also better that they follow one of the more enlightened forms of Christianity until then. Time is completely irrelevant with regards to this matter, quite unlike the issue you have created on my doorstep.

If I was solely after lands, I still have plenty to my east. The matter of Temne is completely different. I did not wish to see Muslims under the rule of a ridiculous pagan king, so I encouraged them to rise up against their lessers. Meanwhile, I attempted to spread the faith to others without war through the use of proselytizers showing the people the way, and not through the arbitrary use of lavish gifts. Unfortunately, you forced my hand, and I truly fear for my new spiritual subjects. Their countries will not be as stable as they would if the process had been from the bottom up. However, their lives will surely be improved by both Allah's presence in their hearts and mine in their politics. I also wish I could have refrained from threats, but it was better for the process to be quick and certain. At least the gifts I sent will improve the countries' infrastructure.

And now, back to Europe. I believe the very reason you entered into alliance with Prussia was that you were under the impression they would, at one point, enter into war with the Palatinate, either of a defensive or aggressive nature. You would then force religion upon the losers. Your posturing and sweet talk only betray your true motives, son of a snake, for you only wish total global hegemony by your religion as soon as possible. Patience is a virtue, but not if you are a Pope, it seems. Own up to your thoughts or do not have them. Lies will only win you false glory.

You're right. Clearly a proper Christian would whore himself out to a Muslim.

I think we can blame the Orthodox on that, for failing to defend their own land nearly 450 years ago.

I would also like to propose that the Irish sell Delaware and Jersey to the Arawak Federation. Since future expansion into the American interior is impossible for the Irish, the land is not worth much to them; I'll buy all 4 provinces for 20 gold, paid out over 4 turns at 5 gold a piece.

Ireland would not be willing to sell our territories in Delaware and Jersey as we wish to maintain them as trading outposts. However, our colony in Maryland has been of less value than we would have wished, and so we offer, as an addendum, to sell that to the Arawak Federation for 8 Gold/EP/Ducats/whatever (payable over 4 turns).

Deal. Due to lack of funds this year, we can begin payments next year.

Aztecs and Choctaw have severed their alliance with Arawak, as Arawak has demanded their annexation. The Aztecs and Choctaw offer vassal status and religious conversion to the Inca, League, or whoever else will accept them. The Arawaks have gone officially insane.

I Sapa Inka, Wayna Qhapaq of Tawantinsuyu, Accept your offer, Glory to Inti.

Signing alliances with Choctaw or Aztec will be considered a declaration of war on the Arawak and our giant military.

The Kalingo people within the Choctaw and Aztec nations require liberation. The Arawak are their saviors. We officially declare the governments of Choctaw and the Aztecs as enemies of the faith, and declare war.

I demand that you release your claims, and let the Aztec and Choctaw people go, I will defend them if you do not.

Arawak declares war on the Inca.

The League, fearful that the war may be exploited by those from the lands beyond the sea and of the suffering the war will bring, requests that a peace be set between the Arawak and the Inca. We are willing to send a party to set a council of peace between the Inca and the Arawak.

The Inca must back off of people who properly belong inside one Kalingo nation.

To our non-Kalingo allies in the Americas:

We have no interests in your lands. You may rest at peace. We ask that you fulfill your alliance obligations not through war but fiscal support.

Do you really think this is a good idea? You can only take two of Arawak's provinces before you have to build a fleet, and they already have the strongest navy in the world. They would blockade you to death, and their remaining allies would be free to land troops wherever they please.

The League will state, on the condition the war is carried out and that peace fails, that we will step in if any non-native power attempts to exploit this war to attack any of the participates of the conflict in order to claim their lands. Should such exploitation occur it is the duty of the Arawak and the Inca to forsake their conflict for the defense of all our lands.

Nevertheless we will continue to encourage both the Arawak and the Inca to seek a peace settlement. If the Arawak want their people to be in unity then war will only tear them apart; they must learn from the Great Law of Peace and strive for a peaceful union.

actually, we have the strongest navy. they have 22 ships, but their Naval Quality is 6. Cyprus has 20 ships but the naval quality is 7.
