Soylent Green is People

The only thing i am fond of the movie is the fact that when detective Thorn was investigating the murder of a typical magnate of the Solent Green Corporation, you get to discover how cool it would be to own an high luxury apartment in a impoverish famine world.

Did i mention that the apartment comes with a female sex slave.

I cannot think of the name of it, but there is a very similiar movie with Vincent Price. "Last Man On Earth" or something like that...

"The Last Man on Earth" was indeed the title, and it was a great flick, maybe one of Price's best, especially considering how he basically had to carry the flick by himself.

And it also was adapted from Richard Matheson's "I am Legend", as was "The Omega Man". Matheson worked on the screenplay as well, though under his alias, Logan Swanson.

"I am Legend" is being done once more, with the same title as the book this time, and is in production now, scheduled for a 2007 release. I believe Will Smith is cast in the lead role.

Hey, get the Seven Samurai too, that movie kicks ass!! :)
Indeed.Toshiro Mifune was brilliant in that one.Kurosawa and Mifune is what i like to say the Japanese version of Scorcese and DeNiro.:)

I loved Planet of the Apes. There were a few silly scenes (cigars in space, tearing up the only living thing you've seen on a planet, etc.) but in the whole of it, I thought it was fantastic. "Get your stinkin' paws offa me, you damn filthy APE!"

Bozo - why aren't they eating each other in starving countries?

I still want to know what human tastes like. :(

@Duelingground: Ah! Thanks for the background information.

@El Mac: We taste like poultry?! I don't even want to know how that tidbit of info came to be known.

Rent Yujimbo as well, it's a great reworking of the original A Fist Full of Dollars ;)

@Bill: people taste like pork apparently, a bit fatty though; that is ccording to an indegenous tribe of natives from Borneo when asked the question in a documentary.

Funnily enough there is plenty of evidence of starving societies turning to canablism in history, the meso americans are a case in point, several times the societies suffered starvation that lead to them returning to the jungles from whence they came leaving evidence of human consumption as a last resort, but no not in modern society, except maybe in a few isolated tribes and even then it's illegal, they do this because the jungle can't always provide the food they need, so they go snatch peole from other tribes, it's all part of their tribal warring and diplomacy, its quite ritualised really. It's not surprising that amongst many amazonian natives money is meaningless as a form of currency and your wealth is judged by your ability to feed your familly and acquire food. A fridge to an Amazonian would be like a piggy bank stuffed with coins.

The Seven Samurai is a brilliant movie. I saw it for the first time about 3 weeks ago. There is little gore - in fact, given the lack of special effects at the time, the fake-looking violence was the only complaint I had about the movie. The acting is great and the cinematography/art directing was amazing.

Okay, who else thought of Frank Black's vocal password when they saw the thread title?

I did! Great show.

@Bozo: you know that I prefer the German version - "Soylent grün ist Menschenfleisch!" ;)

To OP:

See: Thomas Malthus. He was disproven centuries ago.

See: Malthusian Vice.

Why is that every week I have to post something to remind people about Malthus?

Sigh...

Heh, its not gory. I have seen it several times. Its one of several Charlton Heston class B sci fi movies that he made back in the day. His most famous was Planet of the Apes, but there were other good ones as well. Along with Soylent Green, I also recommend a viewing of the Omega Man. Its another post apocalypic bio-warfare story that is pretty interesting.

Yeah, that's a great trio of movies. :)
