SparkNES: A Tale of Mad Scientists and Power!

Ninja sending of orders complete

Well, I only got 6 orders out of 11. I feel gracious, though (compensating my feelings that France should die in every NES I play, as well as my feelings that Nuke should fail in every NES he plays (not the ones he mods, though, he already does that on his own)), and I'll be willing to extend the deadline for 15 hours and a half, which is the time I'll be back home from work. If I don't get the orders by then, it's over.

Also, Terrance and TerrisH: failing to send orders once more will cause grave problems in your nations. Failing to send them a third time will be the death of your nations. I DON'T want to have to kill to nations, OK?

Time's over!

Honestly, I feel really, really disappointed. You've had six days and not everyone has sent orders. Only 7 sets of orders, and some of them leave a lot to be desired. And the other four... well, only Terrance has said he would have it hard to send the orders, the other three have not said anything, or have even shown they were working to make the orders (coughomegacough).

Anyway, I'll start working on the update. Remember, some of you might get messages about your Sparks going into the madness place, so keep an eye on your message inbox!

Anything yet?

I was kind of hoping to get a PM about my Sparks :)

Anything yet?

I was kind of hoping to get a PM about my Sparks :)

Eh, sorry, the PMs were sent already. One of the reasons why I am dithering on the update is hoping that two Sparks will actually be given the resources they need.

Also, a li'l something for you guys to start chewing on: you should be very careful with what you write: I'll make very, very sure that any miswriting is mercilessly pounded on (and if it is hilarious, better). As an example, I'll point out the first update, where I twice mentioned red Sparks (orders related to it mentioned "rouge Sparks", which is quite different from "rogue Sparks"). Make sure that you read what you are writing before sending those orders! Or not: that way it is funnier for me.

That's where that came from! I was wondering, but I forgot to ask.

Update 2: 1952 CE – 105 ABM
Bolshevheim
In Warsaw, the news that the Wisla river was not wide enough to fit everyone were met by Mikael with great scorn. Thundering about “making the river better”, the head of the Polifaze has every prisoner work to widen the river. Given that “criticizing the Polifaze family” has now become a crime, many of the workers are people that lost some of their relatives to Nalia's experiments. This angers many people, but they prefer to keep quiet so as not to attract the Polifaze's attraction. Myconids and Mycoscouts are finally built for the first time, and the Myconids are put to work to watch for the widening of the Wisla, and the fortification of its shores with sentient fungus that attacks any person that nears it. Naturally, this is quite dangerous for those people that live off the river (fishermen) as well as any travelers that desire to drink (or have their horses do so), so something will have to be done about it. An expedition to the marshes south-west of Warsaw to take a sample of the revenant fungus meets with success, but attempts to understand its workings do not. As an answer to the potential danger this (and other) experiments might bring to Bolshevheim, a squad especially trained to deal with potential outbreaks of fungi-related problems and armed with weapons that use chemical reactions to spout fire.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: this revenant fungus is quite interesting. However, some of your advisors, who still remember the horrors of the time of the Great War, suggest that maybe it should be cancelled. What will you do?

Principality of Buda-Pest
The situation for the people of Buda-Pest improves thanks to the addition of Bicske, which is able to provide enough metal to support the army as it is. Of course, the fact that the army has been reduced due to previous cuts changes matters a bit. The joy is further marred by the fact that the Hunyadi remain enclosed within their castle, and have chosen to not communicate with the outside for the last months, apparently unwilling to act for the good of their people. This, combined with the chilling screams heard inside the house (which the guards allege are from Madam Megara, who has entered THE MADNESS PLACE) has already started to cause some problems, as people are starting to say that the Hunyadi are actually dead, and that the messengers are the actual overlords, something they do not regard quite well.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: the fact that no one has seen the Hunyadi for more than a year is starting to irk the people of Buda-Pest, and in fact they are even suspecting that the Hunyadi are actually dead. What will you do?

Dardanic Order
Realizing that the Order is starting to run short on money, Philippe von Welf decides that something has to be done to ensure a steady income that will allow them to pay the soldiers and help to expand their controlled territories. Though, the idea he has come up with is rather strange: he orders the construction of a factory that builds electric clockwork cows, that can protect themselves from attacks (and attack as well) with an electrical shield that is generated around them. How this will result in the Order gaining money, no one knows. Meanwhile, the Steamfisher is finally finished, and begins to be used, bringing fishes (that are already smoked in the steam drives) for their consumption by the people, an event that is welcomed amongst many. Aldeia is fortified with great walls so as to make it less likely to be invaded. And, in an attempt to increase the production of metal, Philippe travels to Dragon's Keep, where he expects to be able to strengthen the miners through the use of limb grafting and other similar methods.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: grave news have reached you: it seems as if the Sparks you received word about previously are garnering an army to attack you. What will you do?

Resources: +3 Food, +4 Stone, +2 Metal from trade
New Lisbon: +850 people from growth, +4 Food, +1 Gold
Dragon's Keep: +350 people from growth

Free Floating City of Drulshal
The news of the injuries incurred by Rul whip Wasul back into form. However, these news also seem to have unhinged her, as she claims she will send a giant crab bot against the ones that threatened to kill her daughter, but she has no such bot, so her threats are pretty much empty of any actual bite. However, some of her other orders actually make some sense: building more airships. Unfortunately, the previous lack of orders has left Drulshal bereft of the metal that is indispensable for the development of any kind of weaponry, and not only that, but they also have to lay off a fifth of the army in order to keep the rest of the army well supplied. At least, the rest of the army was able to set on work to find the bounty hunters that nearly killed Rul, finding and capturing them in the nearby city of Hyéres. The city itself pacifically surrendered to the army, becoming part of the small nation under the rule of the Hibule. Rul herself manages to recover from her grave injuries in a nutrient tank, which heals the worst injuries very soon and all that rests is healing herself with her workings, although she has been fitted with a Shock collar to prevent her from leaving the city. At least, she can entertain herself with the men that tried to kill her, turning them into new loyal minions.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: it is magnificent that Rul has managed to recover, but keeping her tied down to Drulshal may not be such a great idea, as the girl wants to take off for the skies once more, and she can't if she does not have an airship. What will you do?

Resources: +2 Food, +5 Stone, +4 Metal, +2 Fuel, -1 Gold from trade
Drulshal: +600 people from growth, -100 Militia, +100 people, +1 Wood
Garntolof: +200 people from growth, +1 Food
Hyéres: +1,500 people, +10 Food, +13 Wood, +4 Stone, +3 Metal, +4 Fuel, +2 Gold, +7 Stability
Project: Drulshal Hull Expansion (needs 50 Wood, produces Gold)

Geneva Commonwealth
Despite assurances by Giovanni Helvetii that the pirates would not be able to attack the Commonwealth anymore, it proves to be empty words when the air pirates raid Lausanne. Heavy fighting ends up with the deaths of many people. However, this time the pirates were not able to take anything thanks to William. Using his recently developed acid-miner, he managed to turn it against the pirates, killing many pirates and forcing the others to run away. Unfortunately, the acid-miner was not developed for its use as a weapon, and during the battle it explodes, mortally wounding him. As the surviving pirates ran away, the people of Lausanne took William to his laboratory, where he had a stasis tank ready for this eventuality. It remains unknown whether he is still alive within the stasis tank or whether he was already dead when he arrived there. This apparent death is, however, but one among the many that have died of hunger and the many others that have left Geneva and Lausanne in search of food somewhere else.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: the Commonwealth is but a year away from blowing up if something is not done very soon. The people are angry from the complete inactivity of the Helvetii and the lack of food drives many out of the cities. What will you do?

Resources: +4 Food, +2 Wood from trade
Geneva: +400 people from growth, -1,500 people from hunger, -2,500 people from emigration, -2 Gold, -2 Stability
Lausanne: +200 people from growth, -500 people from pirate raids, -1,500 from emigration, -1 Food, -1 Metal, -2 Stability

Neo Serena Repubblica
Eraclea suffers the attack of brutal pirates, who take much of the food stored in the city before leaving. Although the soldiers were able to fight off the pirates, it is obvious that the loss of the nation's only airship has caused much damage to the Neo Serena Repubblica. Several non-Barone members of the Casa dei Nobili have heavily criticized the Doge's inactivity during the last year, as she did not approve the construction of airships for their use in protecting the Repubblica's airspace. This, however, may be due to personal problems in her house: little eleven-year-old Gaia has taken to shut herself in her room, from where she never comes out willingly, and resisting any attempts to be forcibly removed from the room. It is not known why this has happened, although it is suspected she may have entered THE MADNESS PLACE for the first and was completely ignored when she asked for elements to build what she came up with. Whatever it was, it may be completely lost now due to her parents' ignorance of her situation.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: with food sources secured, the attention of the Venetians turns to the skies. The tragic loss of the nation's only military airship means that Venice is a sitting duck for any air pirates that may come here, and something must be done soon to prevent that. What will you do?

Resources. +3 Food, +2 Metal, +1 Fuel from trade, -17 Food from pirate raids
Venice: +600 people from growth, +100 people from immigration, -1 Stability
Eraclea: +400 people from growth, -60 Militia, -100 people from pirate raids, -1 Stability

Grand Republic of Nowograde
With Shimsk and Marista providing more food, and Rusa putting the metal and fuel, it seems that the Grand Republic is now set up for the future. Or it would, if it weren't for those pesky revenants. The town of Marista becomes attacked by revenants, who kill several people and drive many others towards other places. Many complaints are elevated to the Swjatoslawic, who have not acted at all in the last year, and many feel that they are letting people down by entertaining themselves with their little experiments. It is a serious enough thing that many people abandon Nowograde in order to find luck somewhere else, where the people in charge actually worry about them.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: the revenant problem is getting worse: now, Marista is besieged by them, and they are asking that you send the army so as to save them. What will you do?

Resources: +2 Food, +2 Stone, +2 Metal from trade
Nowograde: +700 people from growth, -500 people from emigration, -1 Stability
Rusa: +200 people from growth, -150 people from emigration, -1 Stability

Pirate Kingdom of Sardinia
Sardinia slowly starts to recover from the previous year's mishappenings, thanks to the addition of Carbonara to the Pirate Kingdom. King Alzaro continues with his ship-hunting in order to increase the quantity of metal. In order to make it better, he designs a steamship he calls Kraken's Revenge, which boasts of two powerful mechanical tentacles that can grab ships from below and tow it for their eventual scrapping. However, what it boasts in tentacles, it lacks in cannons, for the mechanisms for controlling the tentacles occupy space that in other ships was used for the cannons, and installing more of the latter could put the ship into risk. Elmiro is sent away to continue forcing other cities to submit to the Pirate Kingdom, or else: the town of Villamar decides to submit, lest they become brutally destroyed like it happened to other towns, although Elmiro's search for electrical components leaves many wondering if he is actually mad. Arcano suddenly becomes slightly... unhinged, so to speak: he has entered THEMADNESSPLACEHetakeslotsofmetalandfuelandsomesandfromthebeachofTogliacciandverysoonfinisheshiswork: a giant mirror! According to Arcano, this mirror can change its focal point by moving several levers, which can be used to reflect the sunlight into an enemy ship, burning it if the mirror is correctly pointed the entire time. In other news, Alzaro has taken to find a bride in Europa for his daughter Aliara, taking into account her non-heterosexual tastes, but it might yet take some time for him to find a girl of similar tastes, so no plans for a marriage proposal are made yet.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: it is clear that sending Elmiro to take out his rage on innocent towns is not working at all. If anything, it is making things worse. What will you do?

Resources: +2 Food, +1 Metal, +1 Fuel, +4 Gold from Villamar, +6 Metal from raids
Togliacci: +740 people from growth, +1 Gold, -5 Infantry Clanks

Skaneland
In Skaneland, the af Vornholm are finally dealing with the raiders north of Vornholm: Henning, using a combination of gold, food and his intellect, manages to provoke a war between the raiders that leaves them almost crippled, with an attack by Vornholm troops finally breaking them, and taking many as prisoners while the others escape further towards the north. This is but a backdrop in the good news that Skaneland is now going through, fortunately for them: Erik's expedition to the south continues, now moving towards the west along the coast, using food to earn himself the support of the people, and gaining the allegiance of the port town of Trelleborg; a town in a nearby island is discovered by the airship, and plans are made to contact them at a later point; the Great Granary and the Road Network are finally finished, to the joy of the people of Skane; and the contact with someone in the south is formalized, with trade with a group of people known as Zwerg Metalworks Inc. bringing very needed metal in exchange of food. Svend orders the construction of a great number of lodgings for people to live in, although unfortunately it was impossible to finish the project on time before the year was through. It was, however, possible for minor Sparks working for the af Vornholm to develop new kinds of clanks, made out of wood (the Träsoldat) and stone (the Stensoldat) that can engage the enemy in melee combat with their sturdy weaponry, and all people are offered training in the use of weaponry. These to are expected to make a lot of noise in the future of Skaneland.

Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: raiders being destroyed, now the focus is on your southern neighbors, Zwerg Metalworks Inc. It is clear they are Sparks, but maybe something good can come out of collaborating with them. What will you do?

Transylvania
Rumors abound in Transylvania about a new Spark that has arrived, and who seems to be hostile towards the Igors, boasting of being able to destroy them. The Igors take this threat towards them and Transylvania seriously, and have ordered the expansion of the army and air force so as to better protect the region from any potential attacks. Igor is given the task of patrolling the skies, so as to find any potential enemy outposts: for this task, he develops a set of far-looking glasses that allows him to see from afar. He also develops plans for active defense systems, but nothing has been built so far. This, and bribing efforts, allow Igor to find out that this unknown Spark has an army of around three hundred soldiers and twenty clanks, and sits near Cluj, to the west of Mures. Meanwhile, Igor, Igor and Igor work to develop a transportation system that connects Mures and Bistrita through Teaca, based on the use of rabbits modified to be strong enough to pull carts along a rail protected with a copper wire line to cause nearby animals to flee away in order to not be run over by the Transporting Device as it travels. Strange ideas about transforming the rabbits into constructs is also underway.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: the unknown Spark has been found, and his armies seem to be big enough to deal with the Transylvanian armies, if he is careful. What will you do?

Resources: +3 Food, +2 Wood, +3 Fuel from trade
Mures: +800 people from growth, +1 Stone
Bistrita: +500 people from growth, +1 Food
Teaca: +400 people from growth, +1 Stability
Project: Transportation Device (needs 10 Food, 20 Stone, 20 Wood, 15 Metal, produces Food (from dead animals) and Gold (from increased trade))

Zwerg Metalworks Inc.
The prayers of many Hamburgers are heard, as trade with the northern neighbors of Skaneland brings much needed food for them to survive the year, in exchange of some metal, of which they have enough to part with. This still is not enough to maintain things for the next year, so Wilhelm orders the development of the land previously occupied by the non-red Sparks and Clanks to create great farmlands, that will hopefully be big enough to feed more of the population. These farms will be operated by Farm Clanks produced in Hamburg's Clank Factory, thus ensuring a steady production of food, although this decision does not sit well with some people, who hoped to be able to work and earn money in those new farms. In order to secure further sources of food, Max rides to nearby Ahrensburg, where he meets with their leaders and offers them the protection of Zwerg Metalworks Inc., which they take gladly, since they do not have much protecting them save for a few old weapons. The year ends on a good note with the inauguration of the Farmlands.
Spoiler :
Sparky Challenge: with the food problems put aside, it is time to focus on your northern neighbors, Skaneland. It is clear they are Sparks, but maybe something good can come out of collaborating with them. What will you do?

Resources: +11 Food, +4 Wood, -5 Metal, +1 Fuel from trade, +5 Food, +4 Wood, +2 Gold from Ahrensburg.

Notes: the Mushroom Winery effects were not added before, they are now. Sorry.
- I'll try to get the stats up as soon as possible (they'll be by this afternoon). It does not mean that you can't start to draw up plans. As soon as they are up, I'll give you the limit for sending orders.
- I hope you liked it.
- Also, if you are of keen eye, you will notice who has slipped up this time with his orders. :D

Yay!

I do have a question regarding my project though. When you say it needs 20 wood, is that in addition to what I already sent, or from now, or what?

If the first, I think I miscalculated last turn. I believed the posted costs were total, and went according to that.

Well, stats are up. I think they are correct (they should be), but tell me if you find something is wrong.

Now, the next weekend I'm not going to be home. I'll be in touch, but I won't be able to do much. Thus, the deadline for the next update will be NEXT FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH AT 10 PM SPANISH TIME (4 PM EST). That gives you twelve days to write and send orders, and no excuses beyond complete lack of a chance to get into internet. Geddit?

EDIT: @Nintz: the second option.

Are electrical cows not units that can be used for my Spanish reconquista, Milar?

Are electrical cows not units that can be used for my Spanish reconquista, Milar?

Considering that you gave me nothing that would point out that the EC-Cows were to be used as units, then what did you want me to do? I thought that the EC-Cows were some idea you had to make money in some way.

If you had wanted to make the EC-Cows as units, then the factory was not required, you just had to tell me what stats you wanted them to have.

Great update, though in the stats I think my food has been calculated wrong. I don't think my new city is added to the total production as it should be 46 not 34.

Skaneland would like to officially announce that we are allying with the Sparks of Zwerg Metalworks Inc.

We will seek to achieve better economic and militaristic results for both nations and our region of the world in general through our efforts.

My plan was to make more money by... Err... Conquering everything. With cows.

I suppose it Should have high armor value.
