Someone found several new units from a tooltip bug in another thread (I can't find it again now). Stuff like unique Mongolian trebuchets, Persian warships, Aztec warpriests, etc. They all would confer unique bonuses to a unit when adjacent to it (seemingly from a promotion on the unit that benefits) - do you think this is related to a hero mode?

I was speculating if the devs might have a small expack planned where they add unique units to most of the older civs to balance out how many newer civs have multiple uniques. It would be consistent with many fans complaining that NFP civs are broken and the rest of the civs need to be buffed. This sounds like it could be that, rather than a hero mode.
It could also be a hero mode, but I just don't think of warships or trebuchets as "heroes".

I have asked the OP about it, and he/she confirmed that these units are from the MOAR units/Steel & Thunder mod that forgot to be turned off; and the unit adjacent bonuses are from the King of the Eburones LUA. So no news here.
If checking the Steel & Thunder mod's unit lists you will find the exact same units.
Pirate multiplayer scenario: This one is almost guaranteed to be free, as otherwise too few people would be able to join the online lobby.
Heroes mode: Seems likely to be the mode for the next pack, or the last one. The next pack has extra great people and city states, the last has one has wonders and a new map/map script.
Corporations/alternate economy: From previous leak seems this will be the mode for the Vietnam/Kublai Khan pack coming in January.
I'm personally still holding out for an Ideology mode as a free mode down the line as well (basically a slight reskin of secret societies for the industrial era). The other big fan favourite seems would be an epidemic/pandemic mode.
Except that Artemisia was a Carian Greek, queen of the Greek city state (client of Persia) Halicarnassus. This is actually handy, because any 'Hero' elements related to her could be triggered from Greece, Persia, or Macedon, since Halicarnassus was controlled by all three at one time or another - actually, probably should include Byzantium and Ottomans in there, but long after Artemisia's time.
Speaking of a Heroes Mode.
If you reread your Joseph Campbell, Heroes are almost always associated with a Quest or Search and frequently leave behind or are involved with Special Relics or Artifacts (See Tolkien for the Ultimate use of the Heroics mythology in fiction). That ties in nicely with the current Relics and Artifacts in the game, which could now be associated with specific Heroes or even, if found and activated, produce a Hero - see the Excaliber legend for an instance.
Heroic Quests could require cross-map journeys by specific types or combinations of units, or Great People, could be connected to Natural Wonders or even building a Wonder or combination of District/Improvement/Building or interacting in some way with a City State or set of Barbarians/Barbarian Camps. Once you start delving into the IRL mythologies, there are more possibilities than the game could accommodate in several hundred reiterations.
And note that some of the Leaders in the game are already hip-deep in Heroic Quests and mythology: Kupe, Gilgamesh, and Alexander of Macedon all spring to mind, so 'Heroic' actions could be related to individual Leaders/Civs as well.
A potential Cornucopia of a Mode - or Pandora's Box . . .

Sounds somewhat interesting, although also very mythological in a lot of ways. I start to wonder if it might not actually come, given that Anton did say before that most of the remaining modes would be "more historical" (I forget if those were the exact words or not). Always possible that the Heroes mode was considered, started and/or mocked in, but then abandoned as well, which could also explain why the Chinese site had an early prototype screenshot. Of course, I think when Anton made his comment, he only said that "most" of the remaining modes were more historical based and less fantastical, so still a chance that we get a mythology-heroes mode as one and the others stay less fictional.

I could expect a "heroes and epics" game mode to be somewhat fictional. At the same time I can't say I would hate the idea. I've enjoyed the fantasy game mode (well really just SS) more than the one historic one (Dramatic Ages) we got so far.
That being said I'm also looking forward to see what the alternate economy mode has in store especially if will bring back corporations.

Well, Heroes tend to be Mythologized almost immediately. There is an entire separate study of the "Romance of Alexander", the tall tales and myths associated with Alexander the Great, quite apart from anything he actually did - or anywhere he actually went: there are stories featuring him from Finland to Thailand as well as across the middle east and India.
Also, if they tried to do a completely or mostly historical Heroes mechanism, they would immediately run into the problem that many heroes achieved their fame by dying: Leonidas and his Spartans at Thermopolye, Achilles at Troy, the 4th company of the Legion Etranger at Cameroun, the men at the Alamo - that would make the 'Hero' strictly a one-shot Unit or Great Person!
And that tendency remains true today. The top awards for heroism in the British, American, and Soviet military in WWII were the Victoria Cross, Medal of Honor, and Hero of the Soviet Union ('Gold Star'), respectively. They all had one thing in common, in that half of all of them were awarded posthumously: being heroic gets you killed.
Hopefully it would rework Sumeria, though it might just be for the game mode like Georgia. Though it could potentially be a game mode I would like to keep on all the time.
Or could be something different. Here is about heroes:
<Replace Name="HERO_DISCOVER_CHANCE_CITY_STATE_SUZERAIN" Value="100" />
<Replace Name="HERO_DISCOVER_CHANCE_GOODY_HUT" Value="50" />
<Replace Name="HERO_DISCOVER_CHANCE_MEET_CITY_STATE" Value="100" />
<Replace Name="HERO_DISCOVER_CHANCE_PER_CITY_STATE_ENVOY" Value="25" />
Probably GreatPeople screen won't be used for that.
Doesn't this one look a little too much like the chances to get a Society Invite table ? I dunno, I feel like finding a table with exactly 4 entries, and each entry is exactly copied on the society invite condition, is somewhat a little too much of a coincidence here, no ?
