Spl02: Noob-Party

@ splime, I was just kidding as Grey Fox noted. My idiot moves are purely unintentional.

Re the start. Food poor, unless I'm missing something. Definitely need to move the warrior before deciding. Could go SW to see if there's fish off the peninsula. NW will probably reveal more map faster. If nothing interesting appears, settle in place.

How does a Machinery slingshot sound? Qin isn't Fin anymore, but I think we could do it.

Well, isn't it a bit early to decide that, as we don't have a city yet? But anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by "Machinery Slingshot", though if it involves the Oracle, it'll be touch and go.

Once we figure out where to move our warrior, I'll do it, and post the resulting picture.

I guess it's early, but just throwing it out there because Machnery is so late every turn matters. Move warrior 1 NW and if nothing is seen, Settler 1N is what I'd do.

Yes, Oracling Machinery is the Machinery slingshot. Used to get Cho-Ko-Nus out and dominate.

Well, the lack of a joint decision means that I'm going to move a head and move that warrior one tile NW. (Hey, it is my turn first...)

OK, the new image:

This move has revealed wine. Settling in place will give us cows and wine in a few turns. The blue circle could be good, due to possible fish, and the wine and cows. The only downside is the two turns used up to get it, which hopefully won't be too bad. Other options include moving down to the peninsula (which also uses two turns - that goody hut is in a forest) for possible fish, or moving north for the unknown. So, let's discuss...

Foggazing shows more forests N of settler, was a silly suggestion I made. Looks like n place, worker first.

Either Blue circle or settle in place. This start isn't my favorite in the world.

Yeah, it isn't too great... oh well.

I don't see any possibility of fish (or for that matter, mussels or lobsters or shrimp) in the BFC of blue circle. Settle in place, I would.

:smoke: Of course there's no chance for fish. My bad...

Why do we need a worker first? It seems like it would just slow us down, seeing that we don't have anything major that warrants chopping just yet, and the only thing he could do immediately is mine that hill. Unless, there's another reason?

If nobody has any objections, I'll play 20-30 turns...

Why not a worker first while working towards Animal Husbandry? Need to coral those cattle even if we can't build the road for the health.

Oh yeah, never mind, I guess worker first would do well, if we start researching AH.

Anyway, I'll get started on those turns...

Oh Mighty Greyfox :worship: I seek to learn the Way of the Civ from your great wisdom.

Splime has added me to this humble party without having to drop anyone so I look forward to working with you and everyone here.

Well we could always move up to the hill north of us. More chopping to chop a wonder, and space to build a coastal city south of our cap?

Turn 0: Settle Beijing in Place. Goody Hut gives 53 gold.Start working on a warrior, as the worker will take too long with only one pop. Research set to Animal Husbandry. Situation at turn 0:

pic005.JPG

T1: Nada

T2: Found some more cows in the NW.

T3: Found some plains hills in the North. We don't seem to have much food up there.

T4: Nada

T5: Rice found in the NE, along with, gasp, some grasslands.

T6: More cows, in the NNE.

T7: Nada

T8: Beijing's borders expand. Now the cows are being worked, and the warrior will be timed perfectly with Beijing's growth to size 2. Also of note: The closest fish isn't within range of any of our capital location plans.

T9: Warrior sees bears in the North.

T10: They're gone. Situation at turn 10 (3750 BC):

pic006.JPG

T11: They're back.

T12: They're gone. Found more rice, grassland, and some desert.

T13: Buddhism founded in a distant land. Better land (possibly) sighted in the far NW.

T14: Beijing grows, warrior comes out, worker is next. Unfortunately, there seems to be no good way to get the worker out much faster, and it'll take 18 turns now. Sorry guys for delaying the worker... :( Warrior goes off to explore. The Situation:

pic007.JPG

T15: Exploration has found us more grassland, and some jungle. So the better land isn't completely perfect.

T16, T17: Nada

T18: Animal Husbandry is in (and useless at the moment, since I made the gamble of delaying the worker to make it come in faster, which failed :( )

Research set to Bronze Working, in order to chop those forests.

T19: Nada

T20: Nada. Situation at turn 20 (3500 BC):

pic009.JPG

T21: One warrior is sent back to defend Beijing.

T22, T23: Nada

IBT: Warrior kills wolf.

T24, T25: Nada

IBT: Warrior kills wolf again.

T26: Hinduism founded in a distant land. Warrior who killed two wolves is promoted to Woodsman I, as this is good for exploration stuff. He alse gets named Wolf Killer. ;D

T27: A goody hut (nearby) that was spotted previously is now gone... I guess this means that we have a neighbor who popped it.

T28, T29: Nada. Situation at turn 29 (3275 BC):

The next player (Quotey) can expect a worker soon. Sorry about not going with the worker first, I thought I would get him done a bit sooner by waiting until there were two populaton working on one, but I was wrong. Also of note, there are a few nearby tiles which have not been explored. Also, we may want to get a settler started soon, and this of course means, dotmaps. (BTW, turn 29 does not count as one of your turns. Basically, if you want to fix anything before you start, you can do it before you start.)

And the save:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/59830/Spl02_BC-3275.CivBeyondSwordSave

Roster:
1. Splime (just played)
2. Quotey (up, 20-25 turns - take your pick)
3. GreyFox (on-deck)
4. Admiral Kutzov
5. TheLastOne36
6. Morred
7. dawn

i spy with my little eye 3 possible cities to settle nearby. (rhymes :D )

the 3 cities are:

1. in the west at the plains below the grassland below the desert, giving us cows.
2. Between the Cows and Rice next to the forest. It gives some coastal tiles and a plains hill.
3. to the north of our cap, 1 tile east of the rice?

I don't have a comp with Civ 4 available atm so i'll try to make a dot map.

Civ4ScreenShot0024.JPG

Probably premature to start dot mapping before bronze is discovered, but...

Site A has cows and rice as bonus food. 3 forested plains for hammers, and 2 hills. No fresh water. Not much else going for it.

Site B is coastal ( we will need a port). It also has the rice and cows. Only one visible hill. Again, not a sweet spot.

Bronze or lack thereof will determine where our next city should go.

We have no horses, if we have no bronze, we're going to need archery. IMHO, we should chop a second worker right after the first pops. We should discuss the research path. Oracle without marble is doable given all those forests.
