Chapter 1: the Beginning

Greetings! I am mrrandomplayer. I have long been a lurker here, with the exception of the DoC forums, but I really like playing OCCs. So, this OCC is my first of many DoC OCC narratives. Here are the settings:

We have a bit of a long time to wait here.

Finally, we are done waiting.

For a long time, the Tamil people have lived in southern India. While there were many great dynasties, the Cholas are among the most influential right now (290 BC). However, the need for shiny rocks for his daughter's dowry and his paranoia about being soaked in his neighbor A-soak-a's power prompted Rajendra to move to the nearby island of Sri Lanka. Over time, other Indian tribes decide to move to Sri Lanka, following Rajendra's example.

The reasons why I built my one city here are many. First of all, it is a ridiculous Great Cothon + Colossus spot, especially because all coast tiles give +1 Gold for the Tamils. Secondly, India and the Mughals won't attack you because they don't build navies, though the Portuguese (and occasionally the French) are able to attack you. Fortunately, you get a lot of time to prepare. By the way, as you can see, I've switched to Pantheon (even though Hinduism IS a Pantheon).

Anyway, I meet our neighbor A-soak-a, and negotiate Open Borders to see how he soaks his people with his power. (I think I've overused that pun). Our missionary goes exploring west.

Questions? Comments? Advice? Please post them! I will probably get an update out late tonight as well.

Subbed. I suggest using spoilers unless you have a lot of dialogue.
Good luck on the OCC!

I say no spoilers since then I can read it on my Kindle! And subbed.

Don't you have a laptop or computer?

Chapter 2: Missionaries and Boats

My missionary does some exploring, and I meet Darius the complete creep. I do manage to do some tech trades with him, though.

civ4screenshot0014c.jpg

I also meet Alexander the always holding his helmet. I guess he's too lazy to wear it like Pericles (or is Pericles to lazy to take it off?) We do accomplish some tech trades with him.

Converting Tyre to Hinduism is pretty tempting.

civ4screenshot0020r.jpg

My galley does some exploring while my workers sit on some newly pastured cows.

civ4screenshot0016g.jpg

That's all for now! Until (possibly) tomorrow!

Yeah, but my mom is always on the computer and the laptop I can't play civilization on so I refuse to go on it. I can sometimes go on the computer after school which is when I comment on, say, your story.
EDIT: You ninja'd me with an update.

Cows? RANDOMLAND!

Chapter 3: Headware Fashion Display

Our missionary does some more exploring, and we meet Ramesses the ticked off. As I mentioned, he is sort of annoyed at us, so we leave.
civ4screenshot0021s.jpg

Our missionary goes west, and he meets some old man named Julius Caesar and his cute little civ the Romans. I don't think they'll ever be a world power! We do get Open Borders after Julius lets his gladiator live to spread the word.

civ4screenshot0030a.jpg

I'd also like to point out Hindu Babylon.
civ4screenshot0025k.jpg

Now focusing on our brave galley exploring east, we meet Qin Shi Huang of China. Rajendra tries not to laugh at Qin Shi Huang's hat, but he also wonders how it always stays on his head. He seems to be ahead of the game there. (get it?) Regardless, he gets Open Borders.

Our galley also encounters Wang Kon of Korea. He sports an awesome hat and a sweet beard.
civ4screenshot0026g.jpg

Meanwhile, a barbie trireme starts to become a pain and Anuradhapura has to build a galley to kill it. Normally, this wouldn't be possible, but in DoC (and RFC), the first few fights against barbies (3, I think) are auto-wins. I make good use of that now.
civ4screenshot0033y.jpg

That's all for now! Until tomorrow!

Can't wait to see the rest of this - I do believe this is the first Tamil (or Sri Lanka) story we've had here!

Chapter 4: of Empires and Wonders

We accomplish a few tech trades with the new Roman Emperor (seems like my predictions were wrong) and the new leader of India, Chandragupta, who is in no way related to Chandra Nalaar, or I hope he isn't. We also meet Justinian the ridiculously smart compared to us. Maybe it is because he is so just all of the time. (get it?) Obviously, we can't tech trade with him because a.) he's going to be a jerk and not be ready to trade them and b.) we have nothing with which to trade.

We also finish the Great Cothon, ushering in a new age of productivity. Just in time, as some wild elephants are humping our cows. Our workers flee to rebuild another day.
civ4screenshot0037.jpg

civ4screenshot0042z.jpg

That isn't that much time, because as soon as the elephants leave, the workers go back to rebuild the pastures.

Sorry about the short update, but the computer I use to upload the pictures has a 1-hour time limit during the regular week, so I have to make my uploads short and snappy. Also, I didn't want to rush into the medieval era. I don't know when my next update will be here because school is starting back up again, but until next time!

Oh, OK. But still, wasn't Asoka Maurya? In the screenshot of the first update, it says Asoka of the Gupta. But then, I do see some DoC leader anomalies, like Qin Shi Huang of the Han

I think they meant Chandra-Gupta rather than Chandragupta Maurya.

There were, in fact, three Chandraguptas. The one in the game is Chandragupta II the Great, the third Emperor of the Gupta Empire, not Chandragupta Maurya or Chandragupta I. Ashoka represents the Mauryas, while Chandragupta II represents the Guptas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chandragupta_II

The leaders and dynamic names are not strictly linked, either.

Because of a lot of school stuff, I won't be able to post any updates until Saturday most likely. Sorry!

I'll be able to update as soon as I can boot my older brother off of the computer with Internet.

Chapter 5: the Colossal Middle Ages

Here we go! Another update!

We finish the Colossus. Now each coast tile produces (with a Harbor) 2 Food, 1 Production, and 4 Commerce until we get Astronomy.
civ4screenshot0046.jpg

We return to explore Asia again, and meet the new Civs of Khmer, Indonesia, and Japan. In DoC, Japan has been greatly changed, spawning 1000 years later (545 AD) and has a completely new set of UHVs, which are much harder than the original isolationist goals. We do some tech trading with Kammu.

civ4screenshot0047c.jpg

civ4screenshot0052.jpg

civ4screenshot0055.jpg

Exploring west, we meet Harun al-Rashid of Arabia, who isn't ticked off with us like he usually is. This is one of the biggest advantages of running Pantheon, besides being able to build classical wonders. We also meets Zara Yaqob of Ethiopia.
civ4screenshot0048u.jpg

civ4screenshot0050l.jpg

civ4screenshot0056i.jpg

That's all for now! Until tomorrow (or possibly tonight)!
