Okay, first of all I love this game, I've had several completions of it both with the Light Side and the Dark Side, but this really annoys me.

After my last game (Light Side victory), I concluded that Knights of the Old Republic is like the Cold War, meaning that during the Cold War you were either a Capitalist or a Communist. Likewise in Knights of the Old Republic, you are either of the Light Side or the Dark Side of the Force. I want to be Switzerland!

For all those who played this game already, do you think that completing a quest/mission regularly, ie. Completing it then collecting the reward money, should not give you a light or dark side point. But refusing a reward should give you a light side and demanding more should give you a dark side point.

I want to play this game like Jolee Bindo, refusing to take a stance towards either extreme, but acknowledging that Darth Malak is a threat to... everything and that he should be eliminated.

Does anyone else agree with me on this point?

play an Imperial Agent in SWTOR if you want the full spectrum of morality

Happen to come across a version that is compatible with Macs?

oh also KotOR II messes around with morality a lot, very gray stuff going on there, and it's available on Steam

it's not really a complete game, though - they had to release it early at LucasArts' behest to be in stores in time for Christmas 2004 - so if you do play it, make sure to get The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod, which puts basically all of the unfinished stuff that Avellone and the other devs left on the discs into the game and, well, finished it

the ending is still pretty rocky but the rest of the game is fantastic; if Obsidian had had enough time to finish the game themselves, it'd have been truly amazing

Much as I hate to contradict Dachs, I can't allow this to go uncontested. DO NOT PLAY SWTOR :p
it's an acquired taste

I definitely wouldn't play it if I weren't such a sucker for Star Wars stuff though

Remember what Switzerland did the last time a guy who was a threat to everything cropped up.

So you ... want to store Darth Malak's gold and get rich off it?

Are there any games with a morality system that isn't basically pants?

I gather this is some sort of Star Wars universe rpg?

I dislike Star Wars. Even the original trilogy (haven't seen the newer films). Seemed mostly boring and meaningless.

As for RPG games, i don't care either. I already live in an ocean of non-player characters.

Good rule of thumb, "I hate this franchise, genre and you" is not how you want to enter a conversation.

That is also, not available for Macs. However I am contemplating buying Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Ultimate Sith Edition) later on, Steam usually has that on sale a lot, I'll just wait for it to go on then I'll buy it. I heard good reviews for it on the App Store.

I tried to play KotOR II with the Restored Content Mod. I got to I think near the end and the game crashed, so I wasn't able to finish the game.

The Ultima series? When morality was introduced, every game after showed how it could be twisted and corrupted.

That's a very good question, and I doubt it. Morality is hard enough to get sorted when you're running a P&P game, so it's going to be murder in strictly electronic treatments.

"Epic" morality where there are no shades of grey can be fun in games, but more realistic morality is going to be hard I think.

Even then I think there is a universal groan from every Dungeon Master ever when one of their players rolls stats that qualify to be made into a paladin. A groan that speaks volumes about the drudgery of rewriting sections of campaign to force that character into an existence that isn't pure tedium. Well, more experience DMs might not groan, they might just decide that multiple fights with good statistical odds of killing the paladin/party are in order. Seeing if your player is willing to sacrifice his awesome paladin character as he "should" is kinda an amusing moral choice if a bit meta.
