StarCraft 2 pro-gaming and 1v1

If you're talking about the games vs Kyrix, it was MKP who first showcased amazing marine splitting vs banelings, not MVP. Games 2 and 5 of either the quarter finals or semi finals were were it was really shown off.

hey yo those games were ro8 of gsl2

check out ro32 of gsl2 you'll be surprised

Watching now.

Last night I was able to watch the HuK vs. MC and TLO vs. Boxer games. Also I heard the commentary but couldn't watch the Boxer vs. IdrA games. So far, nothing has especially shocked me, though I was hoping Boxer would win his series.

I'm at mlg orlando :p.

not much of a picture person, and I decided I would either try to get everyone's signature or just get bw people's signatures; went with the latter. So I got my bw cd packet signed by white-ra, idra, boxer (and jessica smiled some when I said kamsahamnida, at least I think. Not many say thanks to the players they get autographs from) and frozenarbiter. Need to get Nony, july, and maybe kawaiirice (watched a lot of kawaiirice's bw streams).

the players are accessible without being rude to them, as far as I can tell. I know at least nony has talked about that being an issue for him on state of the game in the past. People on the trip with me have gotten tons of players' signatures. It seems to me to be a really good mlg, although too few chairs. Plus the games have been really good.

I've watched more of the non-stream games than streamed-games so far. Much cooler to me to see players play than the stage with the booths, as well as watching the people from my school play; people did as well as we expected/what they hoped, for the most part (best performance was loser's bracket ro7).

edit- mkp such a cutie by the way <3

i'm sorry but boxer is just really, really bad now. he's the emperor of progaming and he will forever have everyone's respect - but there's no need for him to favre it up and embarrass himself in the twilight of his career. it's time to hang it up and retire - and not shame himself publicly against like idra and haypro. i really don't want to see boxer brett favre it up until he can't get any league invites at all.

also kennigit - i'm infinitely jealous, but i think you should get every worthy player's autograph that you can find. most of the players have bw backgrounds and were on bw teams anyway even if they didn't make public debuts.

Actually, Boxer is quite good at SC2. He's getting beaten severely by IdrA, but keep in mind that Boxer's beaten him in former tournaments, and IdrA is universally recognized as having gotten much better. Earlier in the tournament, Boxer knocked out TLO.

Also keep in mind that Boxer, along with MMA, revolutionized hellion usage in SC2. He's not as good as he was in 2005, of course, but he's still quite good and shouldn't hang up just yet.

EDIT: What the freaking heck, the rematch series between Boxer and Idra is insane. Idra took three games and now Boxer just took two in a row. Boxer winning two more is almost unthinkable, but IdrA gets really unnerved when he loses games in a row, and Boxer is also legendary for his insane comebacks. Here's hoping... At the same time, it's MC vs. PuMa, who have something of a rivalry at the moment (since PuMa 3-0'd MC when MC was at the height of his career).

EDIT 2: 3-3 in Idra vs. Boxer... my heart is pounding! The crowd is chanting Boxer!

EDIT 3: Ah... IdrA won the last game. Sadness.

Yeah I've heard that during his career, Boxer has been dismissed as having faded multiple times, but always comes back to be up with the best heh.

Gosh darnit. IdrA eliminated Boxer and HongUn when I watched, but then when I wasn't watching he was knocked out by MC, who is my favorite player. I'll have to see those replays.

The finals are amazingly PvP, MC against HuK. Seven game series.

Yeah, mlg event was quite fun :). Pretty solid games to watch, but the finals was a bit anticlimatic imo.

Got all of team liquids signatures except for Nony (tyler) who wasn't at the teamliquid signing table T_T. Ran into july walking around but it was right after he lost, so I didn't swarm him for an autograph. Just said hello and kind of nodded bowed to him as he walked by.

just fyi, liquid`hero has the cutest girlfriend ever.

MC's girlfriend is super-cute too

boxer isn't "quite good" at SC2. he has a ton of exposure and a huge fanbase because of his BW accomplishments, but as an sc2 player he is thoroughly mediocre. frankly when i watch him i feel embarrassed because he's making mistakes that i would expect out of terrible foreign semipros like drewbie. for reference, boxer is ranked 103rd (!) in korean elo, dropped all the way from code s to code b, and since failed to requalify for code a from code b. he's out of his league and way past his prime. he should retire now instead of continuing to embarrass his legacy. (also tlo is pretty terrible with his wrist condition and is ranked something in the 200s in foreigner elo... if it wasn't for his youtube fanbase he wouldn't be relevant at all. idra is a mockery of progaming and it is shameful that korean sc2 pros are losing to him at all, not to mention a champion like boxer. :/ )

also, the idea that the slayers terrans at mlg invented hellion centric play at mlg anaheim is a myth perpetuated by myopic foreigner observers who don't follow the trends of korean ladder. hellion centric mech play in tvt was popular a month before, notably being used by ganzi to eliminate mvp from the gsl super tournament. if you're talking about the tricky blue flame/medivac/marine play that slayers unveiled at anaheim for use against zergs, that caught on briefly in the korean scene before zergs realized they could counter it easily with an earlier baneling nest and an extra queen, and it failed to have any long term metagame impact.

Yeah I've heard that during his career, Boxer has been dismissed as having faded multiple times, but always comes back to be up with the best heh.

complete myth invented by sc2 fans who don't understand bw's history. boxer peaked in 2001 when his revolutionary dropship play and won 2 OSL titles. he had something of a renaissance in 2004 and 2005 when he dropped finals to iloveoov and anytime, but it wasn't close to his level of dominance on the scene in 2001. after that he was basically irrelevant to the bw progaming scene at large. the "air force ace" team that he created for progamers to play while he was in the military never had any success in the proleague because of the lack of salary and the common consensus that it was a home for "washed up" players. after finishing military service he was irrelevant on skt1 and was almost never sent out for leagues. skt1 offered to give him a respectable position as a coach, but he wanted to play and therefore elected to move on to sc2. however, it's clear that in his age he no longer has the mechanical ability to keep up with the new generation.

Sorry what? You're calling artosis and tasteless sc2 fans who don't understand anything about bw's history? Because they are where I learned about boxer being dismissed multiple times during his career but bouncing back. I think it's also been bought up on State of the Game before, when discussing MLG groups.

yep. tasteless and artosis are highly overrated casters who distort or misreport facts when it suits their narrative (usually simplification for mass consumption). if you'd like to bring up facts to back up what they're saying go ahead, but using their name to ascribe truth is a huge mistake a lot of less informed sc2 fans make.

on problems with tastosis

That entire post is nitpicking problems with their SC2 casting(and nothing about their BW knowledge), some of which I can agree with, as even I can see it when watching them cast. It doesn't really back up your argument either. :p

i already said why that statement is wrong in my original post. he had a peak, a renaissance, and then faded with age. his career isn't anything unique as progamer careers go, except for the fact that he was the first to capture the public's imagination, and his record would put him in the top 5-10 bw progamers of all time. in terms of old bw legends that transitioned to sc2, nada had a more illustrious career with better longevity (including a ridiculous six total titles), and even july won a golden mouse (three OSL titles) over a longer period of time, but they don't get nearly as much of a free pass as boxer does.

That's cool about the Korean proscene's old guard finally hinting that they might possibly start thinking of beginning to shift their tune with regards to Starcraft 2.

He's the same age as WhiteRa. They're both in Code A iirc. Do you consider anything below Code S to be mediocre?
