Fairly terrible up there social media even worse. Airports flooded.

Unknown number of fatalities atm.

Last night

Nowhere near your camping I hope.

Yikes, saw this on stuff last night. I was at Auckland Airport nearly a week ago now so it's weird to see it all with a layer of water.

Don't worry, we are on the other side of New Zealand, on the South Island : )

The island of Maui in Hawai'i got 13 inches (320mm) on the same day, which actually wasn't a record amount. No deaths reported. Lots of damage.

Extremely unprecedented amount of rain

That terriable, we had torrential rain over here in Sydney as well but no flooding

It's been dry down South. Lots rain over winter Hydro lakes were 120% capacity iirc.

Seem to dodge the extremes down here.

Pt 2 incoming ground hasn't dried out from last time.

300+mm of rain forecast in already saturated land.

And arriving earlier than predicted.

Best wishes in dealing with this. It's pretty nuts watching Auckland being hit by floods.

And please relocate the hobbits to higher ground, so they don't drown.

Hobbiton is in the general area of the cyclone.

Bugger. We need to organize some boxes they can stand on, then. Where's that pointy eared elf when you need him...?

Well it's a bit further inland. Probably won't cop the worst of it.
