Update 8, 800bce- Uncertainty
The great betrayal has begun. Caledonia, in an attempt to strike back at the bloodthirsty Norwiegens, coordinated an all out attack against them by sea and land, with the combined forces of the Caledonian, English, and Eireian militaries. Little did Crínáin know what the leaders of Eire and England were planning behind thier nack...
With the fleets of England and Caledonia together facing down a much larger Norwiegen fleet, all appeared going to plan. The Caledonian/English fleet would attack until Eire reinforcements came to bash the Norwiegens in a flank style attack at sea. But then something went horribly wrong. Sooner than they were supposed too, the English ships turned and fled. This led the Caledonians all by themselves. Still, Admiral Brucohel, believing that the Eire ships were still on thier way, persisted in the attack. Outnumbered by almost 3-1, the Caledonian fleet was battered and forced to retreat. On thier way back, another fleet was spotted...with the traditional flag of the Eire! It has been recalled that one Caledonian man actually yelled, "Thank the gods, the Eire fleet is here to save us" before the 100 ship fleet began thier charge. Before the hour was done, the entire Caledonian fleet had been sunk. The Second War for the British Isle. had begun.
(Caledonia: -entire fleet)(Eire: -10 ships)(Norway: -12 ships)
Predictably, the next step in this new war was the land invasion. Finally flexing thier muscle, the English army of Mercykillers landed behind Caledonias archaic fort line using the navy as it returned to English ports. As they landed behind the eastern most fort, it was soon discovered how little Caledonia had left defending its homeland. Much land was taken initially, but out of fear for a counter-attack into England, the commanders ordered a good portion of the army back home. This slowed the operation, and it even bogged right outside of the Caledonian capital. Conscription is popular in Caledonia as horror stories from England have not exactly made the Caledonians giddy with glee at the possibility of joining such a repressive regime...
(Caledonia: -50 archers, +1,000 conscripts)(England: -200 spearmen, -100 Mercykillers)
More bad news for Caledonia. Eire too has decided to invade, although theyve kept thier attacks largely to the islands surrounding Caledonia. Literally no casualties occur, except for one soldier who died tragically in a sheep stampede...
(Eire: -1 spearman)
Education flourishes in Eire as Gaelic Priests preach to the children and sometimes even the adults, across the island.
(Eire: +1 education)
An age of darkness has descended upon England. It is veiled by a new message from the Mercykillers, the Harmonium. The Harmonium is a universal harmony everyone has to accept...or else. Those who resist the Harmonium must be dealt with, for nothing can get in the way of the Universal Harmony the Harmonium promises.
"We have the Truth, You do not. Our proximity to the Truth
entitles us to oppress you; to force you to say and do
things in which you do not believe, to imprison and mutilate you,
and even to execute you, for your own good."
The Mercykillers have shown they believe this too the tee. Much like the RL Roman Colosseums, a structure has been built in the capital of York. It is called the Prisoner Carnival officially, but to outsiders its just known as the "Torture House". Lets just say it has kept the people in line....
(England: +1 culture)
Norway also believed the Caledonians had really recruited help. Orders did not come directly from the King, so the generals had to make thier own calls. The Danes attacked, but with no Caledonian support they had to go for a more blunt attack. This means an all out war in Scandinavia that has been brewing for centuries. So far the Danes have been gaining, as they have promised the other local Viking clans thier land back in the even Norway is defeated, but the war is far from over. Caledonia, with no fleet, is unable to try its counter-attack in Iceland.
(Norway: -150 spearmen, -50 archers, -6 galleys)(Danes: -50 spearmen, -50 archers, -10 galleys)
With peace now established, Tartessos and Tingis settle on spheres of influence. Tingis claims North Africa as its domain, with Tartessos claiming Western Europe. Seeing this as a sign of aggression, the Kingdom of Tahret allies with Cordoba too attempt any domination of the Iberian peninsula. It appears war may soon be coming to this land aswell...
Astile conquers much of Etrusca, but not exactly as they planned. Rather then being able to use the roads to plunder the rich nation, Etruscan generals noticed the weakness of thier stretched army and retreated to northern Italy barely in time to hold off a vicious Astile attack. Much of eastern Etrusca has fallen to Astile, and only by some luck did Etrusca manage to stop the charge into Italy itself. Taranto may be looking to intervene to stop such a thing from occuring...
(Astile: -400 Alupi, -60 Metari)(Etrusca: -200 spearmen, -300 archers)
The slave trade has truly begun. Slaves from war-torn countries are being sold across Europe, especially in places like Astile and Daneland. While it is a sad tale of humanity, it does help the economies of some of these countries.
(+1 extra eco to Astile, England, Daneland, and Galicia use for THIS TURN ONLY!!!)
Winterfellian soldiers stop thier march on Lappland for now...they await word from thier higher ups...
Borie Rus is overrun, by combined Sarmatian, Kievan, and Tueton forces. The Kievans are rather angry that the Teutons came in so late and gained land for essentially no casualties. Some rebellions have popped up, which should be dealt with quickly
Now to the epic struggle that is the Great War. King Julius' army finds great success in the battles towards the capital of Hattusus, and his battalion soon finds the city. Instead of taking it, they instead decide to lay siege to it. Not necessarily the best strategy, as the Hittites have managed to pool thier resources and construct another army. It appears to be marching to meet Emperor Julius' soldiers...
(Byzantines: -100 spearmen, -50 archers, -100 swordsmen)
Mursilis, desperate for a victory and needing to escape this predicament he was in, ordered a general charge of Nicasus. The attack was a success, but with much Hittite blood sacrificed in the process. Another attack by a large group of Byzantine swordsmen have made this a wild goose chase. Unfortunately for Mursilis though, his supplies are running low and it is unlikely they can take Constantinople with his current number of soldiers. As a way to spite the Byzantines, Mursilis has burned both Ephesus and Nicasus.
(Byzantines: -300 swordsmen)
With the establishment of a Rashkan Prince, the Rashkans are finally content to stop the fighting. A permanent Spartan patrol has been established in the area aswell.
Athens, Sparta, and Byzantium begin reaping benefits from a lucrative mediterranean trade route.
(Sparta, Athens, Byzantium +1 economy level)
Africa and the Middle-East are quiet again this century. Zululand easily conquers most of South Africa, but is pushed back almost to thier own capital when they attempt to strike Oranje with less than they really should have....
(Zululand: -150 spearmen)
East Asia is more active. The Taiwanese civil war is definately favoring Taowang though, as many view Shao-li as a heretic. Especially since he has been caught apparently trying to feed the starved Mori...a move many question. With Mori assistance, suprisingly on Taowang's side, Shao-li himself was assassinated! This led to utter chaos in the Shao-li faction, with the Taowang faction taking it over rather easily. Many of the citizens though are then purged, as part of a cleansing of the treasonous ones you could say. Fuzhou is slightly tougher, but is falling quickly to the combined Mori/Taowang forces. This could quickly lead to further reinforcements from the motherland in mainland China but we will see....perhaps negotiations could be reached.
(Shao-li destroyed)(Taowang: -150 spearmen, -100 archers)(Mori: -50 spearmen, -100 archers, -20 Ninjas)
An attack goes as planned for the Shu, after the Xinjian Ruler was assassinated by a Shu seductress...this gave the Shu the perfect oppurtunity in the ensueing chaos to attack.
(Shu: -100 spearmen, -100 archers)
Great profits are coming in from the Silk Trade, rivaling that of the Mediterranean trade. Fuzhans and Yanese look at Shu with great envy..
(+2 economy levels to Shu)
Now to India, finally to India. It appears, much to God's disdain, the two greatest military minds aswell as the most indepth tactics writers ever seen on Earth have come in command of Bactria and Magadha. For the hell of it, they have a war and really make god confused.
Magadhan and Bactria, aswell as thier allies, clash. The first battle is between Gujurat and Bactria, which Bactria quickly proves victorious. Smaller attacks after the main battle are what really hurts, as Bactria is mainly using the land as a transport to attack Magadhan directly. Army 1 of Bactria moves through Gujurat, hampered by guerrila attacks, and soon finds itself trying to defend thier allies in Kura. A gigantic battle has been formed in the unclaimed lands in the middle of India. Magadhan Kali elephants spearhead an attack that soon overwhelms the Bactrian allies, with a bulk of Magadhans allies armies in that area.
As can be predicted though, another attack comes from Bactria. This one goes straight over the nuetral country of Harappa, striking the Magadhans hard. Thier Kali elephants are destroyed on the battlefield against a new threat...Bactrian ballistas. This blow has not totally destroyed Magadhan moral though, and thier infantry have held the line steady vs the Bactrians so far.
