stDarNES1: Stars!

Okay, well as long as it's IC.

To: Astral Sojourners
From: Haven

Very well. But don't be so quick to assume that the Vakkra will treat you any better than they will treat us. Due to our decentralized administrative structure, there will likely be no one person to take out their vengeance. While your highly centralized government will likely be ground flat.

Of course, the Vakkra may just kill us all.

*****

OOC: Vakkrans, Scourges, Sojourners Oh my. :p

We predict that they will simply mung the information net running your votes.

Doubtful, given that they said "You will submit" and "You will serve us".

[OOC: Now waiting for Darwin to tell me whether I can contact the Vakkra.]

It is most likely that the Vakkrans will treat all of us the same, but it is impossible to tell with an alien mind.

Data file available at the network address 67.432.782.39:
Spoiler datafile :
Thoraz Gardens, 12:07 sharp, Medeen Dome, thirty people. You are the Solar Delegation.

Ravinam purged the cache from all official records, then removed the datafile, then proceeded to delete every trace of anything happening, then threw the computer he had been using into an incinerator.

Spoiler :
From about 12:50 onwards, people began drifting into the Medeen Dome. Security guards that hadn't been outside its doors ten minutes ago prompted everyone for authorization.
"What? Authorization? Sir, this is a public place! I'm the-"
"I don't care. Complain to someone else. You're not getting in here."
"Excuse me? I'm with the Solar Delegation."
"Step right in!"
"What? Have they reserved this area or something? You can't!"
"I said, complain to someone else. Now go away."

At 12:07, Blajat Ravinam stepped out of a broom closet. He called for everyone to follow him down the stairs that had appeared inside it and led them to a conference room sealed with three inches of lead in the walls.

"You don't exist. I don't know about you. Can we skip the formalities?" he asked.
General nodding of heads.
"The Vakkra are a threat. They want our servitude. If I deem it necessary, I will offer them that in public, and rely on you to start the battle against them. Now, can I have your information?"
The silence hung in the air for a moment, until a hooded anonymous person broke it.
"I have talked to a Havenite. He says that some of the Vakkran ships have been destroyed."
"Then they're beatable. More than that, they're valuable. If we get can hold of one of those drives, we can truly rule the galaxy."
They talked for a while, the Dictator and the most secret group in the Sojournership.

Unsecret story

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
We will seek cooperation with the Vakkra, should they choose to come here.
They are obviously more advanced than us, we have much to learn from them.
As soon as we learn their physical forms, we will be able to offer them hospitality.
Blajat Ravinam has already formed a comittee to attempt to contact the Vakkra.
The Vakkra ships exist in our universe and follow our laws of physics, as far as
we know. Since they communicated before they attacked, they obviously have
some of the same thought patterns as we do, and are willing to accept peace.

While I'm waiting for Darwin, here's an image from the GIMP. It depicts a nearby nebula, or so I like to think.

OOC
- the gimp is very nice.
- i would try adding some colours and stars, but it looks grand.
- or [insert illegal stuff here] get some pics from [censored] or [scratched out]

IC

we offer many lucrative positions to gimps, some even manage to secure jobs at the Ministry of Alien Affairs.
we even had a gimp work as a body guard to his highness, Haile 14th, a while back. He retired after suffering from an embarrassing accident.

as a part of our "Propegation Program" we are now offering DOUBLE the salary you were making, for half the work.
thats positive discrimination for you!

join the Republic.
Trust in JAH.
Breed and have fun.

let the Emperor handle the rest.

Uh... DAAARWIIIIN...!! Are you there?

I'm here. I had family down this weekend, and an Emergency Trip down to CT to get a friend out of a bad situation.. Today I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon to discuss back surgery, so I won't be around much today.

I PROMISE to have discrepencies fixed, and questions answered by noon tomorrow (EST).

Small break between appts right now.

Orders are due this friday at 9am EST.

I'm going to do my best to answer everything and fix things tonight. No promises, though.

--
SW: I just found out I have a focal disk herniation. Nothing that requires surgery, though. Yay!! First time in 5 years a doctor has actually made a diagnosis about what's wrong with my back!
--

focal disk herniation
that means you basically cant keep lugging all that PA gear for your shows, right?
had something similar in my soundman years.
lucky thing is i stopped doing it, and started playing at those gigs (as a dj)
now its just a lopsided walk i have, from carring those record cases.
but a whole lotta more booty ;)

It means I'm at a higher risk of slipping/rupturing the disk at L5 (base of spine), but other than that, if it's not causing excruciating pain every day, then it's nothing to worry about.

Honestly, though, ever since I started seeing this doc, and going through all the corrective therapy and getting all the neat little corrective devices, I've been having less pain, and getting some of my range of motion back. I feel better than I have in the last 5 years. (a long way to go still, but at least now I can see the light).

Starbases: When you build a new starbase, you CANNOT construct ships at it on the same turn. (Same as not being able to use ships on the turn you build them).

Vakkra: You may send communications to the Vakkra, even if they are not in direct contact with you. Their original message to all Factions has including a 'return address,' so to speak. ;)

Stat discrepencies (that I am aware of) have been fit.

Soooo.... If I actually manage to post an update WITHOUT errors, what kind of prize should I bestow upon you all?

Ok, so the above public announcement has been, well, announced, and sent to the Vakkra too.

<removed in edit>
"To the Vakkra, most glorious and superior!
<blah blah blah flattery, diplomatic language, politeness, minor bootlicking, reservedness, quiet comment on destroyed ships, more flattery, pointed comment, blah blah blah>
I expect your reply."

ORDERS:
Develop Nox (5 EP)
Develop Oncol (6 EP)
Put 8000 colonists on the Interstellar Bus, move to Sierra and colonize it with 2000 people (1 EP)
Provide materials for the Vakkra (2 EP)
Research Construction 5 (5 EP)
Build 125 Starlight Fighters at Oncol and load all 150 into Blue Block, which now has a larger capacity (5 EP)
Movement orders coming later.

BTW, Iggy, feel free to scream "TRAITOR! YOU'RE SELLING OUT THE HUMAN RACE!" right about now. :D

TO ALL

Please PM a message giving me the basics of how your ships act in combat, and if there are any design-specific things I should be aware of when writing combat scenes for the Updates.

@Erik: What do you mean "Provide Materials for Vakkra"

--

Oh, and the story links have been posted on the first page of posts. I'll work on getting links to each update, as well.

There will be some rules changes coming with the next Update. Economy Level rules are going to be updated to make more sense. Also, due to popular request, I will be adding something akin to assault shuttles, that will allow you to make an effective attempt to capture a ship.

BTW, Iggy, feel free to scream "TRAITOR! YOU'RE SELLING OUT THE HUMAN RACE!" right about now.

Neh, I expected it of the AS.

OOC: I have a question for you. You said you were sorry and this was all IC, but what about the bit that had you forcing me to pick a reason for you to attack us? You acted OOC there, but acted IC. What was with that?

@Darwin: Yay! Leeches! For anyone who's played Homeworld Cataclysm.

@Iggy: (OOC, as usual when using player names)
It was an OOC communication where I declared war on you and asked if you wanted to work with me to find something we could write stories about. It's a habit from playing Dungeons and Dragons, I suppose. Metagame knowledge suppression/development happens frequently there.

@Darwin: Ok, if the Vakkra want to fight rather than have the Sojourners build ships for them, they're welcome to be stupidly belligerent. What was meant was "specifically design materials/components/entire ships/weapons/stuff to their design and turn it over to them in finished form".
